'''Gumsi''' is a character from ''[[Rayman 3]]''. Despite the fact that he is noticeably much smaller than most other [[Knaaren]], he is the [[Knaaren]] king. He does not really serve as an antagonist to [[Rayman]], apart from having him challenge his most powerful [[Knaaren]] warrior, [[Reflux]]. He has a more shrill voice and is easily angered, but has a higher level of respect, even more so than Reflux. When [[Rayman]] defeats him, Gumsi gains respect for [[Rayman]], and bestows him the power to convert [[Black Lum]]s back into [[Red Lum]]s with his [[grimace]].

Gumsi is also a playable character in [[Wheelis]], one of the three bonus arcade minigame exclusive to the GameCube version of ''[[Rayman 3]]'', by connecting a second Game Boy Advance to the console.

While Bégoniax is using an outhouse in the swamp near her home, [[Rayman]] suddenly falls in through its roof. (The first [[Teensie doctor]], [[Otto Psi]], had tried to teleport him to the office of the second doctor, [[Roméo Patti]], in [[The Land of the Livid Dead (Rayman 3)|the Land of the Livid Dead]], but the [[Teensie Highway]] had been broken, causing [[Rayman]] to fall into [[the Bog of Murk]].) Bégoniax mistakenly thinks that [[Rayman]] is spying on her. She calls him a pervert and storms off to her house, muttering angrily under her breath as [[Rayman]] tries to apologise, saying that he didn't mean to. [[Rayman]] then enters her home, where she challenges him to a fight around a huge cauldron full of a hot green love potion that temporarily turns anyone who touches it into a [[toad]]. In their [[toad]] forms, [[Rayman]] and Bégoniax are notably slower, and the latter is less resistant, taking on a third more damage than in her normal form.

After the fight, she runs to her magic mirror, and stands on a tall chair in front of it, mockingly calling out to [[Rayman]]. When [[Rayman]] steps through the mirror, he finds himself teleported to another region of [[The Bog of Murk|the Bog]], where he eventually encounters and defeats [[Razoff|Count Razoff]] in his mansion. Bégoniax then appears in [[Razoff]]'s dungeon, possibly having come there via [[Razoff]]'s own magic mirror. It is then revealed that Bégoniax is infatuated with [[Razoff]]; she is seen holding and caressing him, with [[Rayman]] and [[Globox]] witnessing. Unfortunately [[Razoff]] does not reciprocate her feelings, and repeatedly tells her to let go as he tries to struggle free of her grip. She then carries him off. It is unknown what happens to [[Razoff]] immediately afterwards.

In the minigame [[Crush]], which takes place after the events of ''[[Rayman 3]]'', Bégoniax has cast a spell on [[Razoff|Count Razoff]]'s dungeon, causing [[toad]]s to start multiplying within it. It is implied that these toads are Bégoniax's transformed lovers, or perhaps their offspring. The player must help [[Razoff]] to crush the [[toad]]s with his wrecking ball. One of the [[toad]]s is apparently a transformed Bégoniax, as it looks identical to how Bégoniax appears when [[Rayman]] splashes her own [[toad]] potion on her in their fight. However, this [[toad]] appears multiple times during the minigame, even after being crushed repeatedly, indicating that Bégoniax is not actually killed here.

In [[Rayman 3 (Game Boy Advance)|the Game Boy Advance version of ''Rayman 3'']], the character of Bégoniax is omitted, along with many others. However, a level is named after her: [[Swamp of Bégoniax]]. The character is also directly referenced in the level by [[Rayman]], who wonders if [[Globox]] might have gone to Bégoniax's marshes.

==Early plot==
During the [[Rayman 3 (early production)|early development of ''Rayman 3'']], the plot was that [[Rayman]] and [[Globox]], flying over [[the Bog of Murk]] on the [[Wooglah]], take a crash landing after the giant bird gets wounded. Searching for help to heal the wound, [[Rayman]] finds Bégoniax, who offers him to help if he finds the beauty potion she is looking for on the other side of the marsh. [[Rayman]] goes through the mirror and finds [[Ssssam]], then crosses the marsh and enters [[Razoff]]'s mansion. Upon being defeated, the hunter starts crying, and one of his teardrops falls on a nearby [[Ugly]], which then turns into a butterfly-like creature. It is then revealed that his tears are in fact the elixir of beauty, which Bégoniax uses on herself, allowing [[Razoff]] to fall in love with her. To thank him, the witch and the hunter promise to take care of the [[Wooglah]], and show him the way to [[The Land of the Livid Dead (Rayman 3)|the Land of the Livid Dead]].

When [[Rayman]] defeats him, Gumsi gains respect for [[Rayman]], and bestows him the power to convert [[Black Lum]]s back into [[Red Lum]]s with his [[grimace]].

Gumsi is also a playable character in [[Wheelis]], one of the three bonus arcade minigame exclusive to the GameCube version of ''[[Rayman 3]]'', by connecting a second Game Boy Advance to the console.

A '''Knaaren''' is a member of an enemy monster species found only in ''[[Rayman 3]]''. They are tall, fierce and invincible creatures whose attacks are dangerously strong, and they dwell mainly in [[the Desert of the Knaaren]]. They live in the deep labyrinthine caves beneath the blistering sands of the desert, building numerous tunnels and meeting grounds to connect their domain. The Knaaren detest sunlight, so carved their homes out of rock. Various members of the species may be summoned by a nearby [[Gong (Rayman 3)|gong]], calling all surrounding Knaaren to move to the [[Gong (Rayman 3)|gong]]'s position. This can be used as an effective distraction when trying to navigate their caves undetected.

The Knaaren worship a god known as the [[Leptys]]. This god is referred to as ‘bringer of night’ and ‘father of the Knaaren people’, and appears in the form of a great bird.

They are ruled by their Lord, [[Gumsi]], who is noticeably smaller than the other Knaaren – [[Otto Psi]] later on refers to him as a ‘child-king’. [[Gumsi]] holds the [[Sceptre of the Leptys]], a magical object whose holder can invoke the god and gain his power.

The Knaaren enjoy gladiator-style battles in [[Destiny Arena|their arena]]. The undefeated champion of the Knaaren was [[Reflux]], who, since gaining that title in the season of the two full [[moon]]s, went on to chain twenty-eight consecutive wins by knockout. However, he was defeated by [[Rayman]] in ''[[Rayman 3]]'', and conspired with [[André]] to get revenge on him by stealing the [[Sceptre of the Leptys]] from [[Gumsi]] and using it to gain the power of the [[Leptys]].

Female Knaaren and child Knaaren do possibly exist, albeit unseen (with the sole exception of Gumsi).

In [[Sentinel]], one of ''[[Rayman 3]]'''s minigames, it is revealed that the icy [[The Summit Beyond the Clouds|Summit Beyond the Clouds]] is also home to some Knaaren inhabitants. This indicates that the Knaaren are extremely versatile – not only can they survive baking deserts, but they can also survive frozen mountain peaks, and surprisingly, they're not even bothered by the sunlight. In the minigame, the player controls an invading [[Hoodboom]], who lobs [[plum juice]] bombs at the approaching Knaaren, which are attempting to defend their territory and destroy a [[Hoodlum]] tower. Here, the Knaaren are not invincible to the plum juice bombs and can be defeated by them.

== Description and appearance ==
The Cagoulettes are female [[Hoodlum]]s. Their name is the female version of "Cagoulard", the term that was used for the [[Hoodlum]]s during the development of ''[[Rayman 3]]''. They never appear in person, but can be seen depicted in various places. In the shooting range in the [[Hoodlum Headquarters]], Cagoulettes are roughly drawn on some of the targets. Their appearance consists of a balaclava, a body and skin-colored mittens. They wear a purple hat decorated with a flower, a blonde wig, lipstick and a mauve dress decorated with a heart in the center. The [[Hoodlum]]s that practice in the shooting range are penalized if they hit these targets as the Cagoulettes represent an ally to them.

In the [[Hoodlum Headquarters]], a Cagoulette can be heard through an intercom, who presents herself as the [[hostess]] of the place. She follows the progress of [[Rayman]] and [[Globox]], giving them information about each new section they discover.

In the files of ''[[Rayman 3 HD]]'', two images representing Cagoulettes can be found. The first one consists of a purple body, a hood and pink mittens; she is wearing a purple hat, lipstick and a pink bikini. The second one consists of a balaclava, a body and green mittens where she is wearing a green hat and lipstick. The different parts of the costumes they wear are roughly sewn together. It is unclear why they were removed from the final version of ''[[Rayman 3]]'' and where they would have appeared in the game.

The '''Hostess''' <ref>That name comes from the audio files of ''[[Rayman 3]]''.</ref> is the only [[Cagoulette]] ever mentioned in ''[[Rayman 3]]''.

She operates the intercom in [[Hoodlum Headquarters]], claiming to work at the welcome desk. She is never seen save for in the form of pictures. [[Globox]] falls in love with her voice, and is eager to meet her. However, when he reaches the room which purports to contain the welcome desk, the hostess is not present, but there is a cut-out of a female, bikini-clad [[Globox]] – looking very similar to [[Uglette]]. Believing this to be the hostess, [[Globox]] rushes forward and attempts to hug the cut-out, and falls into a strategically-placed trap door. A female [[Hoodlum]] who is possibly the hostess also appears as a target in the firing range. [[Hoodlum]]s are penalized for shooting it, as it is intended to represent an ally of theirs. She is last heard in the room containing the [[Horrible Machine]] where [[André]] interrupts her, calls her "Toots" and talks through the intercom from then on. She might've survived the explosion of the factory.

The '''Firemonster''', also called '''Fire Monster''', is a [[Knaaren]] made of lava, and the second-last boss fought in ''[[Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge]]''. The Firemonster is fought in the [[Pit of Endless Fire]]. He is not difficult to defeat and can be beaten by launching two fully-charged [[telescopic fist]]s at him. Using the level's can of [[Fire Protection]] is not necessary to defeat him, but is still recommended to defeat him to safely move around on the lava.

Apparently, the Firemonster is a regular Knaaren that has been somehow bestowed with the ability of fire by the [[Leptys]], which in turn, causes him to be the guardian of the Pit of Endless Fire. His physical appearance strongly resembles [[Reflux]]'s mutated form.
