Rayman for the Atari Jaguar is the most distinct version of the game. This is mostly due to the limitations of the cartridge and the Jaguar system compared to the more powerful and capable PC/consoles. Differences range from levels having major gameplay and design changes to a lower quality soundtrack.

Notable differences from the PC/console versions
* The intro is a collection of slideshow images rather than a cutscene. The Magician does not appear to tell the story; it is explained through text.
* The menu is reduced to a single screen where the player can load their saved games.
* The Swamps of Forgetfulness and Mr Dark's Dare are renamed (Forgotten Swamps and Mr Dark's Château respectively).
* Like the soundtrack, the sound effects are of lower quality.
* The word "Action" appears at the start of every level.
* The font and its colors are slightly different.
* Rayman is less responsive to the controls.
* Some backgrounds are either switched around or colorized differently.
* The scenery is altered in the Dream Forest.
* Rayman doesn't exclaim "Yeah!" when he touches an exit sign.
* The tall Livingstones run towards Rayman when he is close to them.
* The Electoons immediately fly out of the screen when they are saved.
* Rayman loses the Speed Fist and/or Golden Fist if he is hit.
* Bzzit can shoot projectiles at enemies. This was later implemented in Rayman Origins.
* The Antitoons' hair turn yellow when they fly.
* The P symbol of the Simple Power and Double Power is larger.
* There is no sliding system for the slippery slopes in Band Land, Blue Mountains, Picture City and Candy Château. Due to this the level design in these areas have been altered.
* The part where Rayman cuts the ropes in Mr Stone's Peaks is removed. The lone cage in that part has been moved to the end of the now third part.
* The fight against Mr Stone is different near the end.
* Part 3 of Eraser Plains has a much different design.
* None of the images in the credits showing notable characters from the game on holiday are seen, except for the one with Rayman and his friends.

</gallery>

Candy Château design
One of the well known changes in the Atari Jaguar version is the heavily altered design of Mr Dark's Dare. Instead of riding on a frying pan in part 1, Rayman must follow several arrows of Tings to reach the exit sign. In this phase are the corkscrews and Swiss army knives; these assets are only used in this version and later on in Rayman Designer. Part 2 is also changed; Bad Rayman does not appear at all, but more exclusive dangers like the blue lemonade pools with little icing platforms appear. Part 3 is mostly the same, with few minor changes.

The battle with Mr Dark is much unlike the one in the console versions. Mr Dark has only 12 health points, he attacks Rayman for a longer period of time, he only morphs into two creatures (Mr Skops/Mr Stone and Bzzit/Mr Sax/Space Mama) instead of three and the creatures sweat and walk/jump away when they are damaged enough. When Mr Dark's health reaches 0, Rayman does his celebration dance but while he does it, a bunch of Electoon faces from the medallions appear all around him, with the colourful text saying "well done."

Development
Main article: Rayman (early production)

In recent years following the release of the game, several betas and a prototype of the Atari Jaguar version have been leaked. The gameplay mechanics were most notably different in the beta. Some animations Rayman did like the handstand ended up being scrapped, the Ting counter was originally an enemy counter, and the HUD was placed in the middle of the screen rather than the top left/right.

The prototype version is more similar to the final version, although there are many differences between the two. Glitches in the prototype can sometimes render it unplayable, especially if it is played on a Jaguar emulator.

Some scrapped objects like clouds with eyes can only be found through the hacking of Rayman Designer.

Barbara is a recurring playable character in the Rayman series who makes her debut in Rayman Legends, in which she is the princess of the forest and castle worlds of Teensies In Trouble and the first of ten princesses that Rayman and his friends must rescue. She returns as a starting playable character in Rayman Adventures and Rayman Mini.

History
Barbara was first seen for a brief moment in a leaked trailer that was discovered in April 2012, more than a month before the game was officially revealed at E3 in June 2012. A trailer introducing her was released in August 2012.

At E3 in June 2013, Barbara makes an appearance in a CGI trailer for Rayman Legends made exclusively for the event, in which she rescues Rayman from the clutches of the Armored Toad.

In the 2014 Nintendo Wii U game Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Barbara can be found as a collectible trophy. She along with the Rayman and Globox trophies are given randomly at any point in the game and are found in the "Other" category, though they cannot be viewed in the Trophy Exhibit in the Gallery (therefore do not have a cabinet of their own). They can however be displayed and arranged in the Photo studio via the Hoard section.

On the November 2018 it was announced that along with Rayman, Barbara and Globox will join Brawlhalla as skins for Brynn and Cassidy with the patch that will include Rayman as a fighter for the game.

Description
Barbara is a young and beautiful barbarian girl who becomes Rayman's travel companion. Unlike the vast majority of female characters in the Rayman series, Barbara is a human barbarian. In Rayman Legends, she wears a winged helmet, a green outfit consisting of a boobtube, skirt and trousers, tan-coloured furry boots, and a brown belt with a skull attached to it. She also has long, curly red hair, with two parts of it tied into ponytails at each side of her head, has one of her teeth missing, and a large scar across her face. Also unlike most characters in the Rayman series, she carries a weapon - a double edged battle axe which she wields to dispatch enemies, but can also use as a board to slide on surfaces.

In Rayman Adventures, Barbara is seen sporting a new look. The changes include changing her helmet with a hat accompanied with mechanical wings and goggles, having shorter, lighter hair, a teal crop top, different arm guards, a brown skirt with a belt and a compass buckle, brown pants, and different boots. Barbara also replaces her axe with a shovel.

In Rayman Legends she is first encountered in a room in the Teensies In Trouble gallery in which Dungeon Dash is encountered. Once this level is cleared, Barbara will be rescued and become playable, thus joining the heroes.
In Brawlhalla, the Rayman Update patch added numerous skins, items, and effects to the game. One of these skins was Barbara for the character Brynn. She is considered an Epic Crossover Skin, along with Globox. Barbara comes with signature FX swaps, Legend Name and icon swaps, custom Lock-In animation, and two weapon skins which include her signature axe and Aurora's sword which is now a spear. Elysia and her sister Barbara are alike, with some exceptions. She has long emerald green hair, wears a black boobtube, skirt, and a pair of trousers, a dark red belt, and dark green boots lined with grey fur. Her helmet is also like that of Barbara's, except for the wings resembling bats' wings, and the helmet in general being grey.

Rayman Mini is a game released exclusively for the Apple Arcade service on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Apple TV. It launched with the service on September 19, 2019. On October 18 the game was released on Mac devices. The game features similar graphics and gameplay to that of the previous mobile game, Rayman Adventures.

In this game, Rayman is reduced to size of an ant. Players are tasked with clearing levels as quickly as possible by jumping off insects and plants.

Story
Although a story is never shown in the game, the Flaming Teensy can be seen in the trailer casting a spell on Rayman which makes him shrink in size. It is stated that Rayman is on a quest to reverse the spell in the game.
</gallery>

Gameplay
Similarly to previous mobile titles, the player will automatically run in each level, being able to attack and jump to avoid obstacles and collect Lums. However, unlike Rayman Adventures, where it is possible to switch direction, the player can only move in one direction, similar to Jungle Run and Fiesta Run. By collecting every Lum in a level, the player will be rewarded with an Electoon which can be used to unlock outfits for Rayman, Globox and Barbara. Each boss level will also earn the player a Swag Coin, which can be used to unlock additional outfits.

Worlds
The game is split up into multiple worlds, each with their own set of levels. There are six worlds in total, each with 8 levels and a boss fight. The sixth world isn't unlocked until all previous five bosses have been beaten.

Updates
The game will receive updates after its release with new content for the game.

Unused content
With this game running in the same engine as Rayman Adventures it shares a lot of leftover assets from that game. This includes The Captain, the intro level and several unused assets as well, such as the Kung Foot mode. New unused content is however present as well.

Unused levels
The game has three unused levels which were test levels for the game's mechanics.

Story
Unused text for the game's story can be found in the files. This includes an introduction and ending to the game. These do however not correspond with the story shown in the trailer, as there the Flaming Teensy is the cause for Rayman shrinking.

Reception
Upon its reveal, Mini received mixed reception from fans of the series. Some expressed gratitude over Rayman still being relevant, while others criticized the game for being another mobile game rather than a new console game. When Mini was finally released, it still got mixed reception; while the game was praised for its challenge and graphics, criticism drew upon its music, boss battles and how it did not contain story elements that the trailer promised.

Jano (commonly known as the Guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams) is a character from Rayman 2 (and its remakes) in which he guards the Cave of Bad Dreams, as well as the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3 where he is involved with the pirates. In the former game, he is the Guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams, a subterranean grotto in which the nightmares of Polokus are found and which it is his job to ensure are kept locked away. Jano also guards precious treasure, which, until found by Rayman, was only rumoured to exist.

The manual of Rayman Origins reveals that Jano was the first nightmare of Polokus, and that Polokus begot Jano during the First Bad Dream. It also reveals that Jano is the progenitor of the Antitoons. It was in response to this endless swarm of Antitoons that Betilla the Fairy and her nymph sisters created Rayman, meaning that Jano is indirectly responsible for Rayman's existence. (The game's official site claims that Polokus became Jano, but this is simply a mistranslation from the original French.)

Description
Jano is a larger version of the one-eyed, fire-breathing monsters that dwell in the Cave of Bad Dreams and the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire, who additionally carries a staff with a skull on its top, and wears a magician's hat identical to that worn by Polokus. The skull atop his staff contains the Elixir of Life, which Rayman must gain to save his friend Clark, who became ill after munching on a rusty Robo-Pirate in the Menhir Hills.

Jano is a fierce but wise creature, with the ability to read an individual's mind, breathe fire, conjure floating skulls, and change his size (becoming huge during his battle with Rayman). As a guardian, he will ward off anyone that doesn't know the name of the Cave of Bad Dreams. Although he's an ally of Rayman in general, he challenges Rayman to find the treasure that is hidden deep in the Cave in Rayman 2, chases and battles him towards the level's end, and offers the treasure to him upon his defeat (even though Jano attempts to kill Rayman a number of times throughout the level).

He can tell whether or not an individual is greedy, so he rewards Rayman with the Elixir of Life for refusing to take the tempting treasure. In all versions of Rayman 2 (excluding the PlayStation version), the player gets to choose whether (s)he wants the treasure or not, and in choosing it, Rayman is cast to a deserted island surrounded by the gold, noticeably obese, resulting in 'the end of the game'.

Jano appears again in the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3, where he is the boss of the Haunted Dreams world.

Jano's name may have been derived from that of Janus, the two-faced Roman god of gates. This may be an allusion to Jano's two-faced nature: sometimes he helps Rayman; other times he tries to kill him.

Jano makes his first in-game appearance in the Marshes of Awakening, one of the earlier levels of Rayman 2. Encountering him at this point is optional: he can be found in a cavern located at the end of a hidden side-path in the swamp. If Rayman approaches him, Jano tells him that he cannot pass unless he knows the name of this place. Rayman must retrace his steps and continue the level as normal.

Later, Rayman meets up with his friend, Clark the Giant, in the Menhir Hills. Clark has become ill as a result of eating a rusty Robo-Pirate in the heat of battle. He tells Rayman that the only way to heal him is to recover the Elixir of Life from the Cave of Bad Dreams, where it is guarded by a fierce monster. This is also where the creatures born from the nightmares of Polokus are imprisoned. Rayman returns to the Marshes of Awakening, and Jano reads his mind, seeing that he now knows the name of Jano's domain. Jano tells Rayman that he has hidden a precious treasure within the Cave of Bad Dreams, and that Rayman can have it if he finds it. Jano warns Rayman that he will chase him, but says that he will give him a head start.

Jano then teleports Rayman to his lair, where he encounters many Mini Jano and other obstacles. Eventually Jano catches up with Rayman and chases him down a slimy slope in an attempt to eat him. Next, the two battle; Rayman must avoid the fireballs Jano spits, while traversing the floating skulls he conjures. After turning the tables on Jano and chasing him away, Rayman finds himself in a chamber filled with mountains of gold and jewels. Jano says that Rayman has defeated him, and asks him to choose between the treasure and the Elixir of Life. If the player selects the treasure, Jano punishes Rayman by making him obese and teleporting him to a desert island with only the treasure to keep him company, and the game ends. If the player chooses the Elixir, Rayman finds himself back in the Marshes of Awakening, where Jano is congratulating him on having made the right choice. Jano hands over the Elixir (which turns out to be contained in the skull mounted atop his staff), and sends Rayman on his way. Rayman thanks him and leaves. In spite of Jano's new benevolence, he still attacks Rayman should he return to the Cave of Bad Dreams.

Jano's role is smaller in the PlayStation version of Rayman 2. In this version, the Cave of Bad Dreams is accessed directly through a Spiral Door in the Hall of Doors, and the meeting in the Marshes of Awakening does not occur. Jano does not actually appear in the game until the beginning of Rayman's battle against him.

A glitch involves Jano has been known to occur in the PC, Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast versions of Rayman 2. If the player returns to the Marshes of Awakening after beating the Cave of Bad Dreams, they can see a miniscule Jano floating over the swamp water, just on the left side of the log leading to the cave, where Rayman appears after choosing this level.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3, Jano is the second of four bosses. He is fought in Jano's Nest, a level in Haunted Dreams, the second world of the game. Their passive–aggressive relationship from the previous game is continued. When Rayman sees Jano, he automatically grimaces, and Jano responds by shooting fireballs out of his staff and conjuring skulls out of the air as in the previous game. Again Rayman must chase Jano across the screen until he gives up. In this game, it is possible to hurt Jano by punching him, but this does not help Rayman to defeat him. Once the fight is over, Rayman demands to know where André is, and Jano tells him that André and has gone off to the Magmacosm with Admiral Razorbeard. Jano wishes him good luck, and Rayman leaves.
In Rayman Origins
Jano does not appear in Rayman Origins, but the game's manual and official website discuss him, and reveal some important information about his backstory. Jano was the First Bad Dream of Polokus; it was Jano's nightmarish birth that signalled the introduction of imbalance into the Glade of Dreams. When he was created, Jano began to spawn Darktoons, the stuff of nightmares and the warped opposites of the Electoons. In response to Jano and his Darktoon infestation, Betilla the Fairy and the other nymphs joined forces to create a hero who could restore balance to the world: Rayman. It seems that, on his very first adventure, the young Rayman put a stop to Jano's invasion, and the monster was forced to become the Guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams.

Trivia
*Jano's name is never spoken in dialogue during Rayman 2, the manual refers to him only as "The Guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams". His name can be learned from the official French guide of Rayman 2, the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3 or the manual of Rayman Origins.
*Despite Jano apparently being the reason for Rayman's creation and the assertion that they have fought before, the two do not appear to recognise each other in Rayman 2. In fact, if it was his defeat at the hands of Rayman that caused Jano to become the Guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams, one might question why Rayman does not know the name of the Cave at the start of the game.
