The grimace is Rayman's initial line of defence, which he has been capable of right from the beginning of the original game. To grimace, Rayman stretches his mouth wide with his hands, sticks out his tongue, rolls his eyes and makes a gurgling sound with his throat. The power's functions vary from game to game.
In Rayman the only use for this power is to scare tall Livingstones; when they see the grimace, they are driven mad with fear and start to run uncontrollably, usually killing themselves by falling into water. In the first part of the Swamps of Forgetfulness, the grimace is temporarily replaced by the Magic Seed which Rayman receives from Tarayzan. When he defeats Mr Stone in Mr Stone's Peaks, Betilla grants him the power to run, which permanently replaces the grimace.
Rayman can then use this power to convert Black Lums back into Red Lums by making them laugh after defeating their Hoodlum costumes. It is known as ‘The Power of the Leptys’ in this game. A promotional statue to Rayman 3 which recreates the grimace artwork was done in a limited number to hundreds of units worldwide, very few containing a box and an artwork book with conceptual art of the game.

The Heart of the World (also known as the Primordial Core) is a mystical object mentioned in Rayman 2: The Great Escape, though it is not shown until Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. Comprising one thousand Yellow Lums, the Heart is a glowing conglomeration of light whose energy sustains the harmony and balance of the Glade of Dreams.

At the beginning of Rayman 2, the Heart of the World is destroyed by the Robo-Pirates and their leader, Admiral Razorbeard. The 1000 Yellow Lums which formed the Heart (only 800 in the PlayStation version) are scattered about the Glade of Dreams. This cataclysmic event destroys the natural order, plunging the world into chaos and robbing Rayman and Ly of their powers. The shattering of the Heart has serious negative repercussions for the Glade; dangerous creatures such as caterpillars, spiders, piranhas and Zombie Chickens begin to appear and multiply. Foutch, the Guardian of the second Mask of Polokus, is driven insane. Over the course of the game, Rayman must gather the 1000 Yellow Lums, ultimately reconstructing the Heart and restoring the world's balance.

At the beginning of Rayman 3, André, the villainous leader of the Black Lums, infiltrates the Fairy Council. He wishes to reach the Heart of the World and convert its energy into an army of Hoodlums with which he can take over the Glade of Dreams. Globox puts a stop to André's plans by inadvertently swallowing him, thus putting the Heart out of immediate danger; for the remainder of the game, André pursues another power source, the Sceptre of the Leptys.

In the original Rayman game, a mystical orb named the Great Protoon appears. Like the Heart of the World, it maintains the harmony and balance of the world. When it is stolen by the villainous Mr Dark, the world is plunged into chaos, and unpleasant creatures begin to appear and multiply. After this game, the Great Protoon is never mentioned, and its position in the story is subsequently filled by the Heart of the World. Since the Heart largely has the same function as the Protoon (and even resembles it in Rayman 3), it has been speculated that they are in fact the same object.

In Rayman 2, Rayman can unlock a number of cosmic secrets relating to the nature of his world by gathering the Yellow Lums. This information is collectively known as the Knowledge of the World. The Knowledge contains a number of statements relating to the Heart of the World. It says that the Yellow Lums are ‘the most important ones’, and that ‘one day, the Lums focused their energy into thought, and their consciousness brought to life a strange and marvellous creature: Polokus’. This shows that the Yellow Lums – which are synonymous with the Heart – had a significant hand in the birth of Polokus, the god who dreamt the Glade of Dreams into existence. In Rayman 3, Murfy states that ‘the Heart is where all the world’s energy comes from’ – if Lums are counted as ‘energy’, this implies that the Heart is wholly responsible for the creation of Polokus, and thus the entire universe. The Knowledge of the World also mentions that ‘the universe is made of energy’.

A Blue Lum is a type of Lum which is found underwater in all versions of Rayman 2 except for Rayman Revolution, in which they are replaced with air bubbles. They contain oxygen, which Rayman needs when he swims in bodies of water he cannot resurface to, otherwise his oxygen meter will run out and he will drown. Some stay and provide an unlimited amount of oxygen. Others disappear for a while once they have been collected.

History
Blue Lums in Rayman 2 are said to represent the origin of all life, and the very first breath of a creature's life. When a creature is born, it is given Blue Lums to keep until the day it dies. As he is the only being Polokus did not dream, Rayman may or may not carry his own Blue Lums in this way.

Usage in other games
Blue Lums also appear in the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3, Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge and the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids. In these games, the Blue Lums resemble Tings, and they do not give Rayman air; instead they briefly grant him the Super Helicopter power, much like the potion he receives from the Musician in the original game. In Hoodlums' Revenge, they simply act as fuel which sustains the Throttle Copter – a separate pick-up which allows Rayman to fly via a mechanical apparatus attached to his head. Rayman must quickly collect Blue Lums in order to keep the Throttle Copter in the air.

Céloche is a mechanical marine boss who appears in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. He is fought underwater in the Land of the Livid Dead and is presumably controlled by a Hoodlum.

Céloche's first and only appearance is in the third final part of the Land of the Livid Dead. After Rayman travels through a network of underwater tunnels decorated with Teensie carvings, he ends up at a large, round, underwater cavern, into which Céloche jumps from above. At first he attacks by opening his mouth and releasing a metal fish which Rayman cannot see for the rest of the battle; this is the device that disperses the homing missiles which follow Rayman around and damage him if he does not avoid them. To defeat Céloche, Rayman must let the missiles follow him and then do an underwater somersault while in-between the missiles and Céloche, which causes them to miss and hit him instead of Rayman. This is reminiscent of the method by which Rayman defeats the Grolgoth in the PlayStation version of Rayman 2. Céloche can also fire a horizontally-moving laser beam at Rayman, which Rayman can dodge with a somersault. Céloche's powerful turret is also capable of firing blasts very similar to those used by Armaguiddons later in the game.

When defeated, Céloche collapses onto the lake bed.

Trivia
*Céloche's 'eyes' and the 'face' on its turret look identical to the windows found in Robo-Pirate strongholds in Rayman 2. This suggests that the Hoodlums may have used the wreckage of old Robo-Pirate installations to construct their own vehicles and buildings.

*It is highly likely that Céloche's design was inspired by that of the Martian tripod from H.G. Wells's classic science fiction novel, The War of the Worlds. Both are gigantic, mechanical tripods; both are piloted by antagonists; both use a Heat-Ray weapon; and both are capable of traversing both land and water.

*The cannon, as shown in the picture on the right, has boxing gloves on its turrets. Why it has them is unknown.

Green Lums are used as checkpoints during a level. If Rayman touches a Green Lum and dies, he will reappear at that Green Lum as long as his HP meter has not hit 0. In the Game Boy Color version of Rayman 2, Green Lums are replaced by White Lums. The function of these Lums are exactly the same.

As such, it is unknown what role the Green Lums play in the wellbeing of the Glade of Dreams.

This minigame takes place in three areas which are on Count Razoff's property, presumably in or near the Bog of Murk. The main goal is to help Razoff, who us controlled by the player, to survive the three stages of the minigame, and clear up all the Hoodlums in his path. Razoff can attack in two ways: by shooting bullets from his gun (which go straight forward) or by throwing bombs (which are thrown in arc shape). There are some types of Hoodlums that appear: the Hoodmonger (common), the Hoodboom (uncommon; a boss in the first stage), the Hoodstormer (boss in the second stage) and the Heckler (boss in the third stage). The Hoodmongers have got a resistance of one shot, the Hoodbooms and the Hoodstormer have got resistances of three shots, and the Heckler has got a resistance of nine shots. The red bar represents Razoff's health level. He has got only one shot of resistance. Being hit makes the player restart the level stage where he/she got hit. If Razoff gets hit three times, the player loses the minigame immediately. The yellow bar represents the cleared stages, except in the third stage that represents the Heckler's health. The player wins when the yellow bar is completely empty and Razoff wins the three stages and their own bosses.

The Manual is an item which appears in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc and provides Rayman with information he needs to get through the game. It is a purple booklet with an image of Rayman's face on the front cover; this image depicts Rayman as he appeared in the original game.

The Manual makes its first appears at the beginning of the second phase of the Fairy Council, the first of nine levels in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. It is in the possession of Rayman's coach, the greenbottle Murfy, who reads out general information the Manual has on the game's basics. Murfy notices that most of the Manual's advice is extremely obvious (eg ‘Push the jump button to jump.’), and makes sarcastic remarks about some of its advice (eg ‘Someone gets paid to write this junk?’ and ‘It says here you can make a chopper outta your hair... make a chopper outta your hair. Sounds like someone's been eating paint chips again.’)

Eventually the Manual grows angry at Murfy's rudeness and disobedience and begins to speak itself, via subtitles. It threatens to fire Murfy from the game if he does not follow the ‘script’. The Manual does not appear after the Fairy Council, as its only purpose is to assist Murfy in providing instructions to Rayman during the game's early sections.
Uglies are a species of creatures that can be found in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. They have an insectile appearance, with a small pair of wings and a pair of antennae.

Uglies are first encountered in the fifth phase of the Bog of Murk. Pairs of Uglies are seen chained-up in various places throughout Count Razoff's Mansion, presumably captured and imprisoned there by Razoff. If Rayman breaks their chains with his telescopic fist, the freed Uglies bow to him and each releases one Red Lum before flying away.

The Uglies are seen again during the cinematic following Rayman's battle with Count Razoff in the latter's dungeon. They save Rayman and Globox from Razoff, who intended to kill the two heroes. Razoff seems to be afraid of them; he flees when he is confronted by a gang of ten Uglies (who were most likely the ones freed by Rayman during the previous battle).

The original habitat of the Uglies is unknown, as they do not reappear during this game or any other. It is not known if they left Razoff's mansion after being freed by Rayman or continued to live there.
* An Ugly can be also seen as a trophy in Razoff's house.
* Uglies are one of few creatures that appears in cinematics.
* In the cinematic they are seen pulling off karate kicks.
