'''The Sanctuary of Rock and Lava''' is a level in ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape]]''. It is the last of the sanctuaries to bear one of the [[Four Masks of Polokus]], which is actually [[Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava|beneath the sanctuary]], and is the second one to be filled with lava. In [[Rayman Revolution]] it's called '''Beneath the Lava Sanctuary''' or '''Beneath the Sanctuary of Lava'''. It also features a new mini-boss called [[Chenille]], a larger redish version of the [[shadow creature]]s.

This sanctuary is located deep in the marshlands, and inside the temple are steams of lava and thickets of thorns. [[Rayman]] can avoid these by standing on floating umbrella plants (similar to the flower platforms from the [[Rayman 1|previous Rayman game]]), which carry him though the thorny pits, but eventually either wither away or get burned.

The level continues as a separate level set beneath the sanctuary, where the Lava mask is really hidden.

The level begins in a swamp, the entrance to The walk of Power can be found to the left, when Rayman get's trough the swamp he can see the entrance to the sanctuary.
Inside he finds a floating flower, which takes him to the lower floor, but he has to break the walls on the way.
Once there, he has to jump off pillars, and turn on a switch to get trough the door.

===Phase 2===
Once out of the door, Rayman see's a tower with falling lava, he has to climb it with purple lums.
When he climbs it and get's out of the room, he has to turn on a switch in a room full of caterpillars, and time it correctly to jump trough a little gap.
Once out of that, he stands in a hall where walls with boobytraps to push him off the platforms.
At the end, a teensie's cage can be found.

I have edited the Trivia section according to this text from the official Rayman 3 site published in 2003:

I can't be bothered to translate it right now but basically, it says that Razoff failed to perpetuate the family tradition consisting in capturing an extraordinary prey, and it mentions two of them: the legendary Abominable Geranium of the Seas of Cockatoo and the Space Mama of Picture City. Nowhere is Zaroff mentioned as the one who captured the latter, neither is it said that she was shot.

Any new modifications will be welcome '''in the light of valid sources'''.

Her first attack consists in shooting lasers from her rolling pin, and [[Rayman]] has to punch her in the face until she flies away. Then, she tries to land on him several times, and keeps shooting lasers.

After this, she tries to land on [[Rayman]] once more, and then hides behind her washing machine and fires lasers at him. [[Rayman]] has to punch the machine until all the lights on the dial have turned on, and then the machine will start rebounding towards him and leave the area.

During the final part of the battle, she will alternately drop pressure cookers and shoot lasers at [[Rayman]] until he defeats her.

Situated at the highest point of [[the Buccaneer]], the [[Grolgoth]] is prepared, and Razorbeard gets ready for Rayman to arrive while using Globox, who is being hung upside down, as live bait. Rayman eventually arrives, and is subsequently shot by one of the Grolgoth's bombs, though both Rayman and Globox survive the shot.

The first phase of the final fight begins, with the Grolgoth shooting bombs which trip it up if Rayman shoots and knocks them back at it, and attempts to squash Rayman, as well as shooting energy from its feet. After it is knocked down three times, Razorbeard attempts to take a giant jump and crush Rayman, but he misses and causes the floor to cave in. Rayman then falls with them.

Far away from [[the Buccaneer]], [[Ly the Fairy]] hears [[Rayman]] screaming for dear life, and sends a [[Silver Lum]] to his location which saves him from falling into lava. The Lum catches him and gently guides him to safety, where he finds a [[Flying Shell]]. An image of [[Ly]] then appears to tell him about how the [[Robo-Pirates]] are now defeated and encourages him to defeat [[Razorbeard]].

Rayman falls out of a passage in the cieling with a teensie stone in it.
When Rayman lands on the ground he will look around the room.... noticing he's trapped!
Then Ly appears, telling Rayman that she has some good and bad news.
The bad news is that everything is getting harder from there.
The good news is that she has enough power to give Rayman the ability to fly. (this can only be used in this level)
Now, Rayman has to get in the big passage up the cieling in the middle of the room.

==Phase 2==
This part of the level is similiar to the passage in Phase 1.
But this time Rayman has to avoid to get hit by the lava waterfalls and the thorny walls.
After a while Rayman will see a open room in the wall.... he has to get in there fast to break the cage in it.
Then, just head back of of the room and go in the main tunnel.
When Rayman reaches the end of the tunnel he sees a door, the door will open if he get's close.
Behind the door is a room filled with yellow lava... in the middle of the lava there's a pit.
When Rayman fly's to the middle of the room the camera view will change so you can see behind him.... and then Foutch will hit him with he's fist.
Resulting Rayman to fall in the fiery pit.
There, he has to defeat Foutch, after that he will need to grab the purple lum to get on the bridge and go to the little tower in the middle of the room, in the building is a hole.
When Rayman falls in the hole he will see a room with the 3rd mask.

When Rayman lands on the ground he will look around the room.... noticing he's trapped!
Then Ly appears, telling Rayman that she has some good and bad news.

The good news is that she has enough power to give Rayman the ability to fly. (this can only be used in this level)
Now, Rayman has to get in the big passage up the cieling in the middle of the room.

This level is set high up in the mountainous regions of [[the Glade of Dreams]] where a number of pirate strongholds are built. Deep in the canyons nearby are mines in which a large number of [[Baby Globox]]es are held captive. Many [[Robo-Pirate Army|Red Robo-Pirates]] were seen as guards.

===Phase 1===
[[Rayman]] is outside a metalworks building with a generator room inside, and he has to shoot two [[switch]]es to deactivate an electric field and go down the middle of a rotating machine and into a pipe that leads to a grassy area. Going though another tunnel past a swampy lake, there is another pirate stronghold which [[Rayman]] has to jump from the top and glide down a rapid river. At the edge is a hot air balloon which [[Rayman]] hops in and rides.

===Phase 2===
He then lands in a field with yet another stronghold, which is this time guarded by an invincible giant robot that resembles a dinosaur or perhaps a chicken. The robot is so heavy, everytime it jumps it sends objects in the air, making it useful for [[Rayman]] to infiltrate the stronghold (the Reformatory for Disturbing Children), which has a few [[baby Globox]]es are held captive. [[Rayman]] soon finds a walking shell and has to ride all over the place to collect [[Yellow Lums]] and find two [[switch]]es (three [[switch]]es in the PlayStation version) to release the babies.

===Phase 3===
Deep in a canyon Rayman has to cross a polluted pond, and he'll eventually meet [[Uglette]], [[Globox]]'s wife, who is upset by the fact that more of her babies are missing and held in the mines. The player then takes control of a pirate ship and has to fly it around the canyons and find the four [[The Pirate Mines|mines]]. When all of mines are visited, the ship has to go back to [[Uglette]] and reunite the babies. One of them withdraws the last mask from its mouth and gives it to [[Rayman]].

'''Top of the World''' is the strangely named penultimate level before the [[Sanctuary of Rock and Lava]] in ''[[Rayman 2: The Great Escape]]'' and its remake ''[[Rayman DS]]''. Top of the World was taken out of ''[[Rayman 2: Revolution]]'', and its two segments were put in the form of the [[Chair Ride]] mini-game and the second half of the [[Echoing Caves]], probably due to Top of the World's role as a "filler" level in ''Rayman 2''.

==Description==
The globe's peak is a high-tech [[Robo-Pirate Army|Robo-Pirate]] fortress located far from civilization. The only way to reach the hidden fort is via a [[Chair Ride|speeding chair]]. The fortress itself is intensely patrolled solely by [[Barrel Pirate|Barrel Pirates]], though [[Ape Pirate|Ape Pirates]] and small outposts guard the entrance. The fortress is characterized by its many red carpet-filled hallways.

Rayman has to use a flying chair to go to the pirate base.... avoiding all obstacles in the way.

===Phase 2===
As [[Rayman (character)|Rayman]] arrives in the Top of the World Fortress an alarm goes off. The Barrel Pirates are on the alert, and soon Rayman must plow his way through dozens of them. After passing through many crate-filled storage areas, he discovers the [[Gatekeeper Teensie]] is nowhere near the exit. Indeed, he must backtrack to search out the Teensie--but once he does, the rest of the level is a cakewalk.
