Mr. Dark (the member) put WAY too much GBC stuff here. There's about twenty images of the Mr Dark fight from the GBC version, and the Final Fight paragraph treats the GBC version is if it's the REAL version. This is frickin' unacceptable.
I found the mistake somehow endearing, and I didn't think it appropriate to edit the man's words, so I put a [sic] after 'Darkman'.
:Mr Dark has 9 HP in this version. At the beginning of the battle he conjures three bluish energy balls. He then attacks Rayman by raining small fireballs down on him, then curling up into a ball of electricity – this is when Rayman finally gets to attack him. Each punch causes Mr Dark to shrink down to a smaller ball; after three hits (3 HP), the first of the battle's three stages is over. Mr Dark appears at the top of the screen: he now has two bluish energy balls instead of three. The second stage involves larger fireballs, and the third (and final) one involves lightning strikes. Rayman must punch Mr Dark three times in each of the three stages – that adds up to a total of 9 HP, unless charging his fist has some effect on the fight (which I doubt). (I typed all of this before seeing Hunch's response, by the way.) —Spiraldoor 16:36, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

The same image can be found in the Moons article, so there's no reason to repeat it. Also, some space is required, because there's a new image of Mr Dark (The one from Rayman Origins) that should be used as his new profile picture (because it's the newest). The place where it's situated right now deforms the wiki, so I'm going to replace the picture of Mr Dark using his binoculars with the new image from Rayman Origins, and then I'm going replace the irrelevant picture of the moons with the image of Mr Dark using his binoculars (so it won't get lost).--Sergiomonty 04:16, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
:::I'll just quote my post in the Rayman 1 thread:

:::In the other versions, the three hybrids each have their own health bars (albeit each with Mr Dark’s face), and Rayman actually defeats all of them. In this version, the two hybrids share a single health bar, and when half of Skopsstone’s health is gone, he voluntarily walks off the screen and is replaced by the Moskito thing, which literally flies away of its own volition when it’s defeated. When you look at it all together (not to mention the fact that the Moskito Space Mamas literally share a health bar simultaneously, further suggesting they’re the same being), it definitely points towards Mr Dark as a shapeshifter – and I say this as someone who’s always assumed the hybrids to be creatures in their own right.

:::Drolpiraat agrees, and also points out that the boss seems to sweat and pant whenever his health runs low, as if he realises that his tactics are not working and decides he must try a different approach. —Spiraldoor 21:06, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

::::Good point. I've always understood the scene as Mr Dark transforming into hybrids of the previous bosses, not only due to the health bar but also because it simply made more sense to me. So, with further evidence supporting this thesis, I think it might be the occasion to clear things up in the article. — 23:48, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
Well...since mr dark is actually you-know-who, it is possible. He can use his powers to even clone himself (and that would also explain the educational games...oopsies)--Sergiomonty 05:50, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Wait a second! I think changing the whole article like this is too dramatic. I kind of agree, but we just can't tell officially if those are transformations. Sure, they share a health bar, but isn't it possible that the health bar is for "Mr Dark's army" and there's no other way to explain that name than mr dark's face? Remember spiraldoor, it is still possible that he escaped. You can say it's a possibility, but don't change it like this because you think it's obvious. --Sergiomonty 15:33, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

:Anything is possible, but the implication is definitely that they're the same being. In the Jaguar version, Skopsstone and Moskito-Sax-Mama are literally the only two enemies in the game that flee rather than get defeated. That has to signify something. What do you think the sweating is supposed to mean, if they're just 'Mr Dark's army'? Why does the final hybrid fly into the air if he's some sort of separate being created by Mr Dark – are you saying he's still out there somewhere, flying around? What other explanation is there for the phenomenon of *two Space Mama heads and Moskito bodies appearing at the same time*, if not that they're simply an illusory formation taken by Mr Dark? —Spiraldoor 15:58, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
Mr Dark vs the Magician
All right, we've got a problem here. Rayman Origins does not make it clear who the villain is. I can see three possibilities, all of which are supported to various degrees by the game itself, the manual and site, and the early script:

*Mr Dark is impersonating the Magician.
*The Magician is impersonating Mr Dark.
*Mr Dark and the Magician were the same character all along.

Contradictory edits are flooding in from various people, all of whom seem to be convinced that their interpretation is correct. I've been reverting them to keep the article neutral, but we can't keep this up forever. What should we do? —Spiraldoor 18:02, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
:I'm quite sure Mr Dark is the Magician... This seems the most simple and reasonable explanation to me. The impersonation thing seems to be a bit complex.
:— RaySpola 21:39, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

::The impersonation theory does sound complex, but it's also what the developers originally intended. If you look closely at the wall of the Magician's office, you'll see that it's plastered with posters of Mr Dark, including two with big hearts above his name. These pictures make Mr Dark look very different from a Teensy, with an almost triangular hat and long, spindly arms. Dialogue in the early script outright reveals that the Magician was always a secret admirer of Mr Dark, and always wanted to be like him. Maybe the fact that the developers removed this dialogue at the last minute should be taken to mean it's non-canon, and maybe the fact that they left in the posters should be taken to mean it's not so non-canon after all. It's all a bit of a mess, and it's certainly not cut-and-dried. —Spiraldoor 13:07, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

::Well, the manual says that he's the Magician, so we can totally discard the first option. I have a temporal solution to this problem: "the Magician pulls out the star from his hat, and reveals himself as Mr Dark. However there are several debates about the Magician being Mr Dark, as an early script of the game reveals that during earlier development the Magician was intended to make just an impersonation of him during the whole events of Rayman Origins, being just a fan of his mysterious and evil behavior. Is unknown is this fact was scrapped like various other elements from the script, as it's not refered in the game with the exception of a few references in the walls of the headquarter with pictures of Mr Dark's silhouette and a poster saying "Mr D" with a heart on it."

::Ok... what do you think?--Sergiomonty 23:33, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

:::It's possible that the manual is part of the deception. If it turns out at the end of the game that Mr Dark is really the Magician (or vice versa), they're hardly going to spoil that in the manual. The original Metroid's manual deliberately referred to Samus Aran as a 'he' because Samus turning out to be a girl is the end-game twist; it could be a similar situation here. —Spiraldoor 13:07, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

::::Then that makes possible that the website is lying too, as there are many character that didn't appear in the game and are still mentioned. However, I think that my solution is okay, and it doesn't support any of our suppositions, it's just a neutral point. what do you think, spiraldoor? shall we put that on the wiki?--Sergiomonty 00:00, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

:::::I don't think we can brush this aside that easily. It's not just a matter of putting a little disclaimer in the Magician article; the identity of the villain determines a lot of things, like which page we'll describe the final battle on, and how the two characters will be categorised, and whether we can continue to use the image you put at the top of the Mr Dark page. —Spiraldoor 14:20, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

::::::But it's better than just leaving the article like this. We can only use the official sources that we have, those being both the website and the manual. A lot of material from the script was scrapped, so we can say it's not a legit source at all. If we are able to get more information later, we can change the article, so there's no problem. I'll try to edit the article later. I'll be as neutral as possible. --Sergiomonty 16:27, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

:The key word here is facts. In the absence of any clearly predominant interpretation, I am afraid we will have to enunciate all facts and then list the possible interpretations. The game came out a couple weeks ago, and there is still a lot of work to be done on Rayman Origins-related articles not counting this subject, so we should take some more time to think about it before we do anything. We can, however, decide which pages will feature which information. — 22:50, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

::These are facts. One fact is that the script says that the Magician is Mr Dark's fan. One fact is that this is not suggested in the game. One fact is that the launch site confirms the artwork to be the real Mr Dark from Rayman 1, who stole the Great Protoon. One fact is that the Magician pulls out his star, showing more resamblance with the artwork. If we were doing interpretations, we would say "The Magician is revealed Mr Dark's alter-ego", or "Mr Dark disguises as the Magician during the whole game", and we are not doing that. We are doing our best trying to create a neutral article, full of facts, avoiding any interpretation to change anyone's opinion. Don't worry about it.--Sergiomonty 02:02, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
He also uses his powers to defeat Betilla the Fairy, who tries to defend the Great Protoon but is overpowered. At a later point of the game, Mr Dark kidnaps her and traps her in a crystal ball. Mr Dark also makes a significant appearance in Rayman Junior, an educational spin-off of the original game. Mr Dark returns to the main series in Rayman Origins, where he is revealed to be a Teensie.

Before fighting Rayman, Mr Dark casts strange spells on him as he makes progress through Candy Château, such as creating Bad Rayman, reversing Rayman's movements, making him run uncontrollably and eventually stealing his telescopic fist. Following this, by the time Rayman reaches his hideout, he tries to destroy him by trapping him between deadly walls of fire and throws fire balls at him. When his situation seems desperate, a group of Electoons rescue Rayman by giving him back his telescopic fist. The final battle then begins: Rayman must battle Mr Dark, who transforms into hybrids of the previous five bosses. These hybrids each have Mr Dark's face as their resistance icon.

The first transformation is a mixture of Mr Stone and Mr Skops. His is compoised of Mr Stone's body, feet and right hand, together with Mr Skops' head and claw. His only attack consists of hurling his claw at Rayman, which he can jump over and punch him in the face. If Rayman attempts to punch him too early, the monster will block his face with his claw. It is possible, with a certain timing and dexterity, to hit him up to three times per turn. After he has suffered eight blows to the face, the monster vanishes.

The second transformation is a pair of identical monsters. Each one appears to be made of Moskito's body and Space Mama's head and feet (as seen in her first appearance in Eraser Plains), along with her hands and rolling pin, which fires lasers (as seen in her second appearance in Space Mama's Crater. Their only attack is shooting lasers, which Rayman can jump over or duck under. If both of them shoot at the same height, the lasers collide each other, morph into one laser, and fall straight down towards the ground, which can be difficult for Rayman to avoid if he is ducking. When Rayman gets the chance, he can punch either one of the two. It is also possible to trick them into shooting one another. Both monsters share a single resistance bar; it is possible to defeat them both by punching only one. When they have been damaged eight times, the monsters vanish.

The third and final transformation is a mixture of Mr Sax, Space Mama, and Moskito. He is composed of Space Mama's body, Mr Sax's feet and hands and Moskito's head. This monster's only attack is jumping about with the use of Mr Sax's feet. At the start of this fight, Rayman is shrunk to the same size he would have been had he touched a Flying Blue Elf. As the monster tries to stomp him, Rayman must use his running ability to avoid getting squashed. Whenever the monster hits the ground, Rayman is bounced up into the air by the impact, giving him a chance punch the monster in Moskito's face, which is his only weak spot.

Once the third transformation has suffered eight punches, he vanishes, and Rayman is returned to his normal size. It would seem that Mr Dark was defeated by the final punch to the head of the third form, and fled the château once beaten.

The Atari Jaguar version makes it more explicit that these hybrids are transformations of Mr Dark. In this version, the Moskito/Space Mama hybrids are absent, so the fight consists of only two rounds: the first against the Mr Stone/Mr Skops mixture, and the second against the Moskito/Mr Sax/Space Mama mixture. The two monsters share a single health bar with Mr Dark's face as its icon: when half of the first monster's health is depleted, he clicks his claw several times, creating a shower of sparks, then walks off the screen, visibly sweating. The final monster then appears, with half of his health already gone. (Rayman is not shrunk in this version, and does not need to be bounced into the air in order to punch his head). Once all of his health has been depleted, it looks straight at the camera, sweats, and flies straight into the air. Electoon icons fly across the screen as Rayman celebrates his victory.

In the Game Boy Color release of Rayman, Mr Dark has imprisoned the Toons and uses their power for himself, throwing the world into darkness and chaos. Unlike the original, he does not transform himself when he engages in a final boss battle with Rayman. In between each level he can also be seen watching Rayman though a crystal ball.

In Arcane Forest, he casts two spells on Rayman, the first one summoning Bad Rayman, and the second one reversing Rayman's controls.

The final battle starts out with Mr Dark shielding himself from Rayman's fist with three bubble-like balls. Then, he slowly rises up, and when he is off screen, he rains fire upon him from above. After ten to fifteen fire balls are dropped, he descends back down to the stage, while still having the shield around himself, and turns into a ball. While in ball form, he randomly floats around the stage trying to ram Rayman. His objective is to hit him while he is in ball form three times. But as he hits him, he gets smaller and smaller, and becomes harder to hit. After hitting him three times, a heart appears at the top of the stage so he can replenish his health. Mr Dark turns back to normal, and then he floats off screen again.

This time, Mr Dark throws ten meteors at Rayman, two at a time. Then, he does the same routine as before: he comes back down, and turns into a ball. But this time, he will stay in ball form for a shorter period than before, and if Rayman can't manage to hit him three times within the time limit, he will turn back to normal and float back up into the sky to throw meteors at him again. If Rayman does hit him three times, a heart will appear once again, and he will rise back up into the sky to unleash his final attack.

This time, he shoots sixteen bolts of lightning. They are shot at the step he was just above on the stage, and can be easily avoided by using the Helicopter to hover over a lower step for a short time. After the sixteen bolts of lightning are shot, he turns back into ball form. Then, the time he is in ball form for even shorter. But if Rayman manages to hit him three times before he turns back to normal, he has beaten him. He turns back to normal form, burns up, and a spirit shape appears, then he completely fades from existence.

In Rayman Junior
Mr Dark also appears in the educational version of Rayman, Rayman Junior, in which he steals the Magic Book of Knowledge from the Magician and destroys a map to his hideout in Candy Château. He casts the same spells on Rayman as he did in the original game, but due to the game's educational nature, he doesn't fight as a boss at all. Once Rayman has solved the riddles on the parchment showing the way to his hideout and been through his spells, Mr Dark doesn't appear any more and Rayman eventually finds the Book of Knowledge.

In Rayman Origins
The second trailer of Rayman Origins shows a brief glimpse of a Teensie with a top hat and a black robe, standing on a stone platform, surrounded by Darktoons and Psychlops. Several months later, a more clear artwork of the character was released, and the official website confirmed him to be Mr Dark, stating "The archenemy from Rayman 1 returns.". Like Betilla the Fairy and the other returning Rayman characters, Mr Dark seems to have been redesigned somewhat for this game, and is no longer limbless. In-game, there are no references to Mr Dark making a plan to take over the Glade of Dreams as in previous games, as the game doesn't seem to have a fixed plot or a real main enemy. However, in the level "The Reveal", the Magician is discovered by the heroes as the responsible for the evil steampunk empire in the Moody Clouds. He in response pulls off the star of his top hat, showing more clearly his resemblance with the artwork of Mr Dark, and possibly, revealing to have been Mr Dark the whole time and been faking a friendship with Rayman.

However, there are many issues that make unclear this possibility, as an early script of the game shows scrapped dialogues indicating that the Magician was not intended to be Mr Dark, but a fan of him, loosely pretending to be as mysterious and evil as him. It is possible that this idea was scrapped like several other material from the script, and the Magician is actually Mr Dark's alter ego. However, there are several posters in the Magician's headquarter, some with pictures of Mr Dark's silhouette, and one with a picture of a heart and the word "Mr. D" written down, suggesting that possibly the idea wasn't scrapped at all.

In other games
Mr Dark is referred to by name in the manual for Rayman 2: The Great Escape, where it is revealed that his defeat at the hands of Rayman is what convinced the inhabitants of the Glade of Dreams that the hero was trustworthy. However, he makes no actual appearance in the game.

Previews of the cancelled 2D version of Rayman 2 mention that the Robo-Pirate invasion took place after Mr Dark fled Rayman's island following the events of the first game. It is not known if Mr Dark was ever planned to have a larger role in this game; other characters from the original, including Betilla the Fairy, were intended to make an appearance.

Mr Dark makes an almost unnoticeably subtle cameo appearance in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. At the end of the 2D Madness minigame, a few photographs from the original game are glimpsed briefly, and between them they show almost all of the game's characters, including Mr Dark. In addition, the design of the game's titular Hoodlum enemies was conceived as a visual mixture between Mr Dark and the Hunters.
His next major role is in Rayman Origins, where he is revealed to be a Teensie. In the intermediate years, the Magician also appeared in several educational spin-offs of the original game, such as Rayman Junior and English with Rayman.
Character description
Appearance
In the original Rayman, the Magician appears to be part of the same limbless species as Rayman. He bears all of the signature traits – lack of limbs, large nose and white gloves. He has long blonde hair that nearly reaches the ground, and his eyes are always covered by his long black top hat, which shines in blue and purple and has a gold star on the front. (He often retreats into this hat, and can be found hiding inside it in many levels.) He has also been seen wearing shirts of two colours – in the introduction sequence of Rayman, he wears a purple shirt with two blue buttons, but in the game itself, this is blue with golden buttons. The colour of his shoes – purple and orchid – remain the same, but with different stripe patterns. He is also noticeably shorter than Rayman is in Rayman, but in the educational games, he is approximately the same height as Betilla the Fairy. According to English with Rayman, the Magician has a cousin named Andrew.

In Rayman Origins, the Magician is no longer a member of Rayman's species – like several other characters, he has been redesigned to better fit the world established in the Rayman sequels. The Magician is now a grey-haired Teensie who wears a purple shirt and a black coat. He still has his signature, star-adorned top hat, and can still be found hiding inside it in various levels.

Video game appearances
Rayman
The Magician first appears in the introduction of Rayman, in which he tells the story of how Mr Dark stole the Great Protoon and brought about the collapse of the valley's natural stability. He calls on Rayman to go and free the Electoons from the cages that hostile beings had imprisoned them in, as well as bring the Great Protoon back from the Candy Château.

Rayman can come across the Magician's hat several times throughout the game. The Magician only emerges from it if Rayman has at least ten Tings; if not, he will clearly indicate with his hand that the hero will need them. If Rayman does have at least ten Tings, he automatically reaches out and drops them into the Magician's outstretched hand. The Magician then teleports Rayman to one of his bonus levels. In these secret areas, Rayman must collect all the Tings within the time limit. If he succeeds, he wins an extra life. Only a single life can be won in each bonus level. Subsequent victories in the same bonus levels are purely for fun, and also record the time taken by the player so that they can attempt to beat their records if they wish.

Rayman Junior
In several of the educational versions of the original game, such as Rayman Junior, the Magician's roles are looked into considerably more. He introduces the story of the game once again, only this time, he tells of how Mister Dark had broken into his cottage, stole the Great Book of Knowledge and destroyed the map to the villain's hideout. Once again, he and Betilla the Fairy call on Rayman to retrieve the pieces of the map and the book.

Instead of providing bonus areas, the Magician now helps Rayman to solve the many problems (spelling and mathematical problems for the young player) throughout the journey. When Rayman starts a level, the Magician will give him an overview of the specific tasks he needs to do in order to complete it. After that, his hat will appear several times, and each time Rayman passes one, the Magician will either ask a new question or remind him of the level's task. At the very end of the last stage in the level, he will appear somewhere once the final task is done, and when Rayman finds him, he mostly does a different performance, such as doing a dance or rapping 90's style, while praising Rayman for what he has done.

Rayman Origins
The Magician makes his next appearance in the sequel game, Rayman Origins. The Magician is first encountered at the beginning of the game: he is found inside his distinctive top hat, which is sitting on the ground outside the Snoring Tree. Each time one of the players jumps on the hat, the Magician offers a few words of advice. The hat appears in many places throughout the game, and the players can jump on it at any time for tips relevant to their current situation. However, sometimes, during those tips, the Magician makes open comments that define more his personality: A sarcastic, selfish creature who asks constantly about getting more Lums, doesn't worry about Rayman, and sometimes even questions Rayman's position as a good guy.

At the end of each level, he is seen holding a test tube which he uses to count the number of Lums collected by the players. Certain numbers of Lums will unlock further Electoon cages, but if the players reach the top of the test tube, they will get a Lum Medal. In these post-level screens, the Magician can be seen fully: he is revealed to be a Teensie rather than a member of Rayman's species, and his hair is now grey rather than blonde. However, 'The Magician' seen at these post-level screens was later revealed to be Mr Dark (His hat is different than the real Magician's), having disguised himself as The Magician to fool the players.
