Spiky snakes are enemies which appear in Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends, Rayman Fiesta Run and Rayman Mini.

Description
There are five types of spiky snakes. While their appearance is different, they share common characteristics such as an elongated body covered in spikes. They resemble insects more than snakes.

Appearances
Rayman Origins
In Rayman Origins, two types of spiky snakes are found in Snake Eyes and Don't Shoot the DJ, two levels of the Grumbling Grottos. The purple ones are invincible, while the red ones are vulnerable and have wings. Defeating them takes as many mosquito shots as their number of body segments.
Rayman Legends
In Rayman Legends, two other types of spiky snakes appear.

There are the spiky snakes from Fiesta de los Muertos, which are red and purple, with black eyes and double pincers in their mouth. They are found in Snakes on a Cake, Lucha Libre Get Away, Mariachi Madness, and many invaded levels.

The other type is the spiky snakes from Olympus Maximus, which are red. There are only two of them and both are found in The Amazing Maze.

In the Back to Origins levels, the spiky snakes from Rayman Origins are also encountered, and are unchanged in this game behaviour-wise but in terms of appearance, the wings on the red spiky snake are more clear and the purple ones have wings too.

Rayman Fiesta Run
In Rayman Fiesta Run, the red spiky snakes from Rayman Origins make a return in "Cater-plane!", a level of the Candy World.

Rayman Mini
In Rayman Mini, tiny spiky snakes appear in the Rabbit Hole and the level "Caterp-Hell-Art" of the Bonus world. From version 1.3.0 onwards, they are also found in "Concerto in Punch Major", the music level set in the Rabbit Hole.

They resemble those from Fiesta de los Muertos, but their bodies are covered in a green carapace with red dots. Their spikes are red, much more numerous and look like thorns. On their head, they have four black eyes without irises or pupils, different from those in Rayman Legends, and two huge red mandibles. This is the game where they look the most like insects.

Early development
The game files of Rayman Legends contain the original paintings for the musical levels. On the one for Mariachi Madness, a spiky snake from Olympus Maximus can be seen, but purple in color. This type of enemy was eventually removed from the level and the rest of the game.
Original version
Rayman and his team find the Tricky Treasure at the end of the first platform. The chest thinks Rayman is going to beat him up, so he runs away, and the chase begins. Getaway bluegrass music plays once the chase starts. The chase area appears to be with tall mushroom-like plants in the background, though it is difficult to see the background very well, as it is mostly a blue haze. Everything in the foreground is only seen as a silhouette. During the chase itself, the team must follow the Tricky Treasure across platforms, many of which sink when he lands on them, while avoiding round spiky flowers. The heroes are often assisted by Swingmen. Later in the level, the platforms fall faster and earlier. Once no room is left to run, the Tricky Treasure will stop, allowing the players to punch it open. The Skull Tooth can now be collected to give back to Mister Death.
Playing in the Shade is the third level of the Ticklish Temples, a world in Rayman Origins. It is the sixth Tricky Treasure level, where Rayman and his friends must chase a Tricky Treasure for a Skull Tooth. This is the first level from this world and fourth overall that is included in the Back to Origins mode in Rayman Legends.

Several times, the heroes are assisted by Swingmen. Later in the level, the platforms fall faster and earlier. Once there is no room left to run, the Tricky Treasure will come to a stop, allowing the players to punch it open. The Skull Tooth can now be collected to give back to Mister Death.
Red Birds are violent bird enemies appearing so far in Rayman Origins. They form part of the clan of evil birds that inhabit the Desert of Dijiridoos. They are red robust birds with small wings, slanted eyelids, pointy beaks, and fangs. The attack patterns of a red bird are the same as the Psychlops: It can be seen sleeping or bouncing in the same place while trying to hover with its small wings, and if a player touches it, it will freak out and its feathers will turn sharp and spiky for a while, prejudicing both the player who touched it and the other players who try to attack it in this state. The best strategy is to attack the red bird quickly, and only in its calm state. Like most of the enemies in the game, red birds only require one slap to be bubbled.
Geyser Blowout is the second level of the Jibberish Jungle, the first world in Rayman Origins. The level is located on a rainy landscape with multiple creature-shaped rocks, geysers and water areas filled with tentacle claws. This is the first level to have hidden areas where the Electoon cages reside. This level was formerly known as Geyser Blast.

Original version
Area 1
Upon entering the level, the heroes can see the Magician to their left, who will tell them about Lums and Skull Coins if they hit or jump on top of his hat. As the heroes progress through the level, they can use the geysers to gain extra height. The first Skull Coin can be found in the lowest section after the geysers, floating over a small pond; one of the heroes must fall on a floating nenuphar to reach it, without touching the water plagued by tentacle claws.

Area 2
Upon entering, the heroes must slide down a waterfall onto some moving platforms near a geyser. After going up said geyser, they encounter some Lums circling around a Swingman who helps them across a huge abyss; however, below to the right is the first secret area of the level, and the first of the game, which the heroes can access to find the first Electoon cage. After that, the second Skull Coin can be seen, inside of a small tunnel located under a platform where some Psychlops can be seen jumping. If the heroes get close or enter the tunnel, it will start collapsing; the heroes must run after the coin and quickly escape by the other side before they get crushed. Afterwards, they can head back up by going through more geysers, and then using an explosive bulb to continue on to the next area.
Moving platforms expand greatly in this area through the effect of the explosive bulb. The heroes need to be careful throughout this area, as the platforms can crush them. The third and fourth Skull Coins are covered by plants in the upper areas, where the heroes are able to perform walljumps. The heroes must defeat the four Lividstones guarding the cage. They can either defeat them all manually, or they can hit the green bulb, causing the nenuphars that the three Lividstones are standing on to disappear, thus making them fall into the rapidly flowing water, pushing them into the spiky flowers, then the heroes can defeat the last one manually. The heroes must also be careful to not fall into the water and get bubblized by the spiky flowers themselves.
Now the heroes must put their skills to the test by conquering a mix of moving platforms and geysers, while being careful to avoid falling in dangerous water containing tentacle claws. The sixth Skull Coin is located underwater; the heroes must take it and use a geyser to escape from the tentacle claw quickly. The last Skull Coin is located under a rocky platform after the grabbing vine. To get it, the heroes must stand on said platform, and wait until it slowly collapses. When the coin is obtained, the heroes must quickly perform a walljump to go back to the land and avoid falling into the abyss.
Finally, the heroes must defeat the four moving Psychlops guarding the last Electoon cage by using the geyser provided for them. After doing so, then breaking the cage, the photoboard will appear and the level will end, taking them to where the Magician watches the rising amount of Lums that were collected throughout the level.
List of differences:
*The skull coin by the Tentacle Claws has been changed to a teensy and there's only one.
*The two secret areas in addition to the final area have all been modified. With the first one replacing the Lividstones and moving platforms with Psychlopses, the second one reducing the number of lividstones to one and having two Psychlopses in addition to there being only one Spiky flower with the vine also being replaced by a chain and the third being changed in three ways firstly, the cage has been placed at the bottom secondly, the Psychlopes move slower to make it easier to defeat them and lastly, the platform doesn't move up and down to ensure the play won't instantly die.
*When hitting the first explosive bulb only the platform on the left moves and not the one at the bottom.
*All moving platforms rise and fall subtly slower than in Origins.
*Most of the tentacle claws in the penultimate area have been removed additionally the vine has once again been replaced by a chain.

Back to Origins is a world of paintings in Rayman Legends which features levels from Rayman Origins. Each level has had various changes made in terms of level design and graphics. Not all levels are included, and the ones which are have had all story elements removed from them. The levels are unlocked through lucky tickets, though will still need to be played in order in each of the worlds.

Levels are split into 5 worlds, each having the name of a corresponding world from Rayman Origins: Jibberish Jungle, Desert of Dijiridoos, Gourmand Land, Sea of Serendipity, and Mystical Pique. Each world features 8 levels from a pair of similar themed Rayman Origins worlds: for example, Jibberish Jungle features levels from both Jibberish Jungle and Ticklish Temples. Mystical Pique features levels from Moody Clouds as it does not have a correspondingly themed second world.

There is a pattern to what levels are included: each world features 4 normal levels (2 from each of the two worlds featured), both Moskito riding levels, the second Tricky Treasure level, and the boss level. Levels are not always featured in the same order that they were encountered in Rayman Origins: for example, Freaking Flipper is played before Swimming with Stars. The boss featured in Mystical Pique is from the Land of the Livid Dead, given that the Moody Clouds boss stage is omitted.

List of changes
*Some level names have changed slightly.
*Lum Kings, spiky platforms, Skull Teeth, Electoon cages, the Magician's hats and time trials have been removed.
*Turnips, Teensies (which replace many of the Skull Coin locations), purple Lum chains and several enemies have been added.
*Enemies no longer bubblize.
*Many textures on objects and enemies have been slightly redesigned.
*A majority of the levels have had their layout tweaked to be easier, most notably the Tricky Treasure and mosquito riding stages.
*The Tricky Treasure no longer has an eye. A Teensie is also trapped within the treasure.
*The lightning has been improved.
*The nymphs do not appear at all.
*All enemies now have animations of themselves being tickled that are not able to be viewed without the Murphy reset glitch on a console with a touchscreen or hacking.
*Some levels have had many foreground objects removed to make them easier to see.
*Some levels have been removed.
*The music no longer changes once the enemies have been defeated in an area with a cage. The only time the cage freed song from Rayman Origins can be heard is at the end of Moskito levels.
*When entering a secret area with a Mosquito the music stops to ensure the current music doesn't override the Mosquito riding music.

Trivia
* The song used for each world gallery varies, with only Sea of Serendipity using the same song as it did for the world map in Rayman Origins:
** Jibberish Jungle uses a song featured within the levels of the world, bearing little resemblance to the original map song from Rayman Origins.
** Desert of Dijiridoos uses a brand new song based on the music in the world, but not featured in Rayman Origins, making it the only area in Back to Origins to feature new music.
** Gourmand Land uses the in-level version of the Rayman Origins map song, which includes extra backing.
** Sea of Serendipity uses the exact song used for the map in Rayman Origins.
** Mystical Pique uses the cage area theme, which bears more resemblance to the Moody Clouds map song. This is likely used as 5 of the featured levels are from Moody Clouds while only 2 are From Mystical Pique.
** The world selection gallery uses the theme of Rayman Origins as heard in the PlayStation 3 menu.
