No they aren't:

FOUTCH: Guardian of the sanctuary of lava and fire
UMBER: Guardian of the sanctuary of rock and stone
I think the names were just changed later from fire+lava to stone+fire and from rock+stone to rock+lava. That doesn't imply that the Guardians were guarding different Sanctuaries, just that the names of the places themselves changed.

This article was created after a single test-case, for future reference. If, after following the instructions relayed herein, you find the solution doesn't work for you, please send Shrooblord a PM via the forums.

Introduction
These instructions detail how to get Rayman 2 up and running in a Mac OSX environment. So far, test results show evidence of full, no-lag support with a similar input latency (none) and appearance as the original game back on 1990s machiens, except rendered with modern-day graphics abilities (note that though the drawn lines may appear less pixellated, there is no way to update the textures unless someone went and repainted every single one by hand at a higher resolution).

They will get the game running, but your Mac menu bar at the top of the screen will still be visible. Additionally, the game will be displayed in its native 4:3 resolution, so you will have big black pillar borders on the sides of the screen surrounding the game if you have a widescreen monitor.
These are features of the process still being looked into. Perhaps the widescreen patch as described on the forums can be applied. This has not been tested.

Requirements
* The GOG.com version of the game (requires installer executable file - download it off the site from your Library when logged in and with a purchased copy registered to your account)
* Porting Kit by Paul the Tall

Installation
# Download and install the Porting Kit. Its installation is straightforward and all necessary instructions are relayed to you through its own installation procedure.
# Download the Rayman 2 GOG.com version's installer executable and keep it in your Downloads folder.
# Launch the Porting Kit.
# In the Porting Kit, near the top of the window, click the tab Library.
# To the left, click the tab Server and search for Rayman 2.
# Install the Porting Kit's Rayman 2 wrapper and follow all on-screen instructions. The process should walk you through all necessary steps on its own.
# By now you should be able to test Rayman 2. However, you will notice that its graphics remind you of 1990s computers. Follow the next step in the process to remedy that.

Configuring the Game
These steps will cause the game to be drawn using your computer monitor's native resolution, increasing the quality of the graphics displayed significantly. The list of instructions is accompanied by a screenshot picture gallery below.

<ol>
<li> Go to your Local tab in Library and right click the Rayman 2 app. Select Launch Wineskin [previously, this option was called "Properties"]. </li>
<li> Click Advanced and Browse on the first tab in Advanced. </li>
<li> Browse to the nglide_config.exe inside the created Rayman 2 app: right click the Rayman2.app, click Show Package Contents and navigate its directory tree as shown below. </li>
<li> Test Run the nglide_config.exe.</li>
<li> Select the following options:
<pre>Screen Resoltion - By Desktop
Aspect Ratio - 4:3</pre>
</li>
<li> Next, set the WineSkin options to emulate a Windows XP computer ( Tools tab > Config Utility (winecfg) ). Apply and close.</li>
<li> On the Configuration tab, Browse back to your Rayman2.exe executable inside the Rayman 2 app's directory.</li>
<li> Click Test Run to see if it works.</li>
<li> [OPTIONAL] - It may be you need to change some options depending on your computer and operating system. On Mavericks, the steps described above were enough. On El Capitan, one additional step was required to get the game to run: In the Wineskin Advanced window, in the Configuration tab, click "Set Screen Options" and make sure the checkbox 'Use Mac Driver instead of X11' is checked (it is unchecked by default).
<li> And finally, close this Advanced Wineskin window and from hereon forwards, whenever you click Play in the Porting Kit, you'll have Rayman 2 running on your Mac desktop like it were a Windows XP computer, with correct aspect ratio and using your screen's resolution. </li>
</ol>

<gallery>
File:Ray2PortingKit properties.png|1. Select properties in the context menu for the Rayman 2 installation inside your Porting Kit's local Library.
File:Ray2PortingKit winecfg.png|2. Click Advanced on the Wineskin window that opens and then on Browse on the Configuration tab of the Advanced dialog window.
File:Ray2PortingKit nglide config exe.png|3. Browse to the nglide_config.exe inside your Rayman 2 installation directory (the created Rayman2.app).
File:Ray2PortingKit nglide config testrun.png|4. This shows the nglide_config.exe being the executed .exe file when the Rayman2.app is run. Click Test Run to launch the application.
File:Ray2PortingKit nglide config options.png|5. Displays the options that should be chosen in the nglide_config.exe for the Rayman 2 Porting Kit executable.
File:Ray2PortingKit Ray2WinXP.png|6. Select Rayman2.exe to run emulating a Windows XP environment in the Wine Configuration (winecfg) option under the Tools tab of the Advanced option of the Properties window of the Rayman 2 Porting Kit executable.
File:Ray2PortingKit Ray2 exe.png|7. Select the Rayman2.exe to be the executable that is run when launching the Rayman 2 app under the Configuration tab of the Rayman 2 Porting Kit executable.
</gallery>

Fun Fact: Advantage of Ported Rayman 2
The benefit of this Rayman 2 version over normal Windows machines running the game: you can minimise the window and the game will turn into Rayman II - paused like on Windows, but instead, it won't crash when you try to reopen the game from minimisation.

[Note]

<ol>
<li> Go to your Local tab in Library and right click the Rayman 2 app. Select Properties.
</li>
<li> And finally, close this Advanced Wineskin window and from hereon forwards, whenever you click Play in the Porting Kit, you'll have Rayman 2 running on your Mac desktop like it were a Windows XP computer, with correct aspect ratio and using your screen's resolution. </li>
</ol>

<gallery>

<ol>
<li> Go to your Local tab in Library and right click the Rayman 2 app. Select Properties.
</li>
<li> And finally, close this Advanced Wineskin window and from hereon forwards, whenever you click Play in the Porting Kit, you'll have Rayman 2 running on your Mac desktop like it were a Windows XP computer, with correct aspect ratio and using your screen's resolution. </li>
</ol>

<gallery>
</gallery>

Ninjaws is a Ninja Pirate who appears in the PlayStation version of Rayman 2 as the boss of the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire.

While Ninjaws looks identical to the other Ninja Henchmen, he seems to be their leader. Ninjaws also seems to be Razorbeard's favourite servant. At one point in the PlayStation version of Rayman 2, Ninjaws reported to Admiral Razorbeard in his cabin that he had captured more than 5000 slaves. Razorbeard ordered Ninjaws and his Ninja Pirates to kill Rayman. Ninjaws later managed to track down Rayman at the end of the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire, where the two battled for the Second Mask. Rayman defeats him, as he has a heavy hook as one of his hands which can get caught in the ground if he misses hitting Rayman with it. Ninjaws has the ability to teleport to areas.

Attack scheme
Ninjaws will attempt to slash at Rayman with his hook. If he misses, he gets stuck in the ground briefly before teleporting away. He does not linger on the battlefield for longer than two seconds at most. Inbetween appearances he is untargettable. He will sometimes appear on Rayman's location, trying to hurt him simply by being an enemy that occupies the same space as he does. As a tertiary attack, he may appear in a spot before Rayman, shoot at him and appear in a spot slightly to the right of that, shooting again. Like so, he circles around Rayman in the time span of one second as he barrages him with bolts of energy.

Role in the games
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Ly's story begins in Rayman's mind, when she tells him that the Robo-Pirates have broken the Heart of the World into 1000 Yellow Lums and that it has weakened her, before he gets captured. She is then consulted by Globox, who she gives a Silver Lum to give to Rayman before they are both captured. While Globox is taken to the Buccaneer, Ly is held prisoner in an electrified forcefield in one of the pirate strongholds, deep in the Fairy Glade. The Silver Lum she created gives Rayman the ability to shoot balls of energy, and it is put to good use as he eventually finds her and destroys the machine that controlled the forcefield, freeing her. By then, she only has enough energy to create one Silver Lum, which upgrades Rayman's shooting ability to be used with Purple Lums. Before leaving to gather more energy, she passes her knowledge about Polokus and his four masks to him.

Later on, Ly makes more Silver Lums that make Rayman even more powerful, and by the time he reaches Razorbeard in the Crow's Nest, she uses one to save him from falling into the vast body of lava, and using telepathy, encourages him to fight until the robot Admiral is defeated. When the battle is over, at first she was made to believe that Rayman did not survive the explosion high in the sky, until he turns up alive.

Additionally, Ly offers Rayman to join her in a race through the Walk of Life and the Walk of Power, in which extra Yellow Lums are found, and offer him to have his health and power maximised. Despite it being a race, Ly does not have to be beaten.

Rayman Revolution
In Rayman Revolution, it is revealed that Ly resides in a house built in a giant tree somewhere in the East Plain, and it is there that she offers Rayman to play some mini games that top up his health and power, provided that he frees and brings to her enough Familiar Spirits for each game. She also meditates from a stone in the area of Globox's House, and a stele in Rainbow Creek. She is also a playable character in the unlockable mini game Missile Dogfight.

Rayman 2 Forever
Ly plays a similar role in Rayman 2 Forever, the handheld adaptation of Rayman 2, but like most characters her part is reduced due to the limitations of the Game Boy Color. She is not captured in the Fairy Glade and is simply encountered there. She does not give Rayman the power to swing from purple lums on screen, although the rings (the equivilent to the purple lums in this version) do not appear until after her meeting with Rayman in the Fairy Glade, suggesting she may have given him this power after all and it was simply not shown. She tells Rayman to gather the masks of Polukus as always, but offers no explaination as to what they are. She appears several times throughout the game to give Rayman the temporary Super Helico power, and instructs him to destroy Razorbeard before the final battle. She congratulates Rayman upon his victory.

Rayman 3 (Game Boy Advance)
In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3, Ly plays largely the same role as Betilla the Fairy in the original Rayman game. Oddly enough, Ly's sprite in this game shows that her tail is missing, and is now replaced a large ponytail at the back of her head, though in a cut-scene she still has her original tail and short hair.

Rayman Raving Rabbids (Game Boy Advance)
Ly makes some brief appearances in the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, where she gives Rayman a costume medallion every time he defeats a boss. While the game uses the same sprites as the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman 3, she has a new appearance in the cut-scenes, where the front of her hair is curlier than before, she has pale blue lipstick, and her suit reveals her shoulders.

Character description
Appearance and design
While she is of a very thin build, Ly shares some typical fairy attributes, such as her long elven ears, her magical powers, and the ability to float in mid-air. Like Betilla the Fairy, she does not have wings. She has short purple hair and a long, bushy tail of the same colour, while having green eyes and lips. Contrary to popular belief, she is not naked, but wears a yellow suit with plum stripes and swirls all over; according to one of the earliest Rayman 2 websites, she 'dresses like the People of Prhys', though it is not known who these people are. The same website initially describes her as an "intriguing feline creature", suggesting that she may have indeed been such originally, though it is unknown as to why she had been redesigned as mostly elven; what remains in her final design is her tail. Early concept artwork for Rayman 2 that depicted her shows that she had most likely been originally an anthropomorphic cat, as she appeared to have cat ears and a non-human nose. In the Walks of Life and Power, she sometimes runs on all fours.

Physical
Ly shows great athletic and gymnastic skills, perhaps more so than Rayman's, as she can run faster and jump much higher than he can. In fact, she can cross very large gaps, such as on the river in the Walk of Power, while Rayman would have to use his Helicopter. However, it is possible for the player to outrun her in the Walk of Life, though in all versions of the game, apart from Rayman Revolution, she will simply teleport herself to the finishing point if she is too far behind. Despite being very thin, a piece of official artwork depicts her with enough strength to juggle all of Rayman's body parts with ease. She can also shoot energy spheres, like Rayman's, as a method of defence.

Personality
Similar to Betilla the Fairy, she is a calm and very meditative character, even in her captivity at the Fairy Glade, and spends most of her time meditating deep in the forest, by floating while in a sitting lotus position. Rayman says that the Woods of Light is one of her favourite places to be. When she is not meditating, she is a fun-loving and friendly character that puts a lot of faith and trust in the heroes of the world, and is willing to help Rayman defeat Admiral Razorbeard and the Robo-Pirate army.

It is unknown if she is at all related to Tily, a much younger fairy who appears in Rayman M/Arena/Rush, and who shares some of her features and has a similar name to her. It has been speculated that Tily was created as a replacement for Ly in these games, as Ly is still seen on some of their promotional artwork.

The original Rayman 2 website describes her as 'wild and independant', and says that she shares the secrets of the People of Prhys, and helps Rayman to protect them from harm.

Trivia
*Ly was originally going to appear in Rayman M, as several promotional pictures and even the back cover of the game showed, but was in the end replaced by Tily the Fairy.
* There was a concept artwork for Rayman 3 which may have depicted Ly with a totally different appearance. She had no tail, but instead had huge dragonfly-like wings, her hair and lips were now phthalo blue instead of purple, and she wore a new outfit of the same colour, as well as a pair of elbow length gloves, while also having blue dots over her face and arms. This design was dropped from the final game, though it can be found as a printable in the Rayman 3 Print Studio.
* Ly likes to juggle – several Rayman 2 images depict her juggling at least three red balls, and even Rayman's body parts.
* Ly's voice in Rayman 2 is an echoing, feminine voice. In Revolution, although Ly spoke English, this echoing voice is still heard in the background.
* She takes part of a music band in the credits of Rayman Revolution, where she plays the banjo.
* In the Japanese version of Rayman 2 for the Dreamcast and Rayman Revolution, Ly's entire appearance had been changed to suit the preferences of the Japanese market. Her eyes were rounder, her pupils were bigger and a lighter shade of green in colour, she was given thin eyebrows the same colour as her hair, and instead of green lips, they were now pink. Her clothes also became purple and white. She is known as ‘Rai’ (ﾗｲ) in all Japanese versions of the game.

Cameos
*Rayman M: In Ly's Palace, an ice sculpture of Ly is found the centre of the room.
*Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc: In the third phase of the Longest Shortcut, another statue of Ly can be found hidden behind a painting.
Description
Ssssam is a purple serpent who dwells in the Marshes of Awakening, acting as a ferryman for the Glade's inhabitants. He has a disproportionately large head compared to his thin body. The body itself appears to be no longer than Rayman's height; however, he is never seen in full – only his head, part of his neck and occasionally the tip of his tail are ever actually visible, as he always partially submerged in the water of the Marshes. As a result, it is impossible to gauge just how long he might be, though he is small enough to fit inside a Robo-Pirate cage.

Ssssam speaks with heavy emphasis on sybilants, not unlike a stereotypical cartoon snake.

Ssssam is described as a ‘young and spirited serpent’ in the manuals for most versions of Rayman 2, and he appears to be very cheerful, enjoying the simple things in life. Upon being able to stretch out after being freed from his cage by Rayman, he says that it is ‘Sssssensational’. He does not have any knowledge of the Masks of Polukus, possibly due to spending most of his life in the Marshes.

In Rayman 2 and its remakes, Ssssam is first found by Rayman in the Marshes of Awakening, imprisoned in a pirate cage. Upon being freed by Rayman, Ssssam stretches and agrees to take Rayman across the Marshes, as he had seen the Pirates take Globox in that direction. On the other side, Ssssam bids Rayman farewell and asks Rayman to make a point of visiting again. From this it would seem that he is very lonely, possibly having no friends within the Marshes.

This is his only appearance in most versions of the game. However, in Rayman Revolution, a bonus minigame called Waterski Challenge can be unlocked by talking to Ly the Fairy once the player has freed 30 of the game's 80 Familiar Spirits. The bonus level is another waterski chase, similar to the one in the Marshes of Awakening. Rayman must collect 20 Red Lums as Ssssam takes him through a swamp.

In the Game Boy Color version of Rayman 2, Ssssam appears with a much smaller role, appearing only at the end of the first level of the Marshes of Awakening (although he can be seen again with the rest of the cast at the end of the game) In this version, he simply lets Rayman ride across the marsh on his head, rather than waterski. He is never named in this game.

Rayman 3 (Game Boy Advance)
In this alternative version of Rayman 3, Ssssam is first found in the Swamps of Begoniax, this time uncaptured, where Rayman asks Ly the Fairy for directions to find Globox. He then allows Rayman to waterski through the swamps in a similar fashion to Rayman 2.

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
Ssssam makes a cameo appearance in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc as one of Count Razoff's statues. A developer referred to these statues as Razoff's ‘finest catches’ in a RaymanZone interview, indicating that Razoff had captured Ssssam at some point.

Although it too is set on the Buccaneer, the Crow's Nest is handled as a different level to The Prison Ship, possibly because the designers felt that it would be too difficult for the player if The Prison Ship led directly into this fight; another reason is that players might want to be able to return instantly to the last battle, rather than having to play all the way through an entire level to reach it. This method of design is particularly useful in the PS1 version, as players can now return to the final fight, complete it and access the post-credits 2D bonus level.
The first phase of the final fight begins, with the Grolgoth shooting bombs which trip it up if Rayman shoots and knocks them back at it, and attempts to squash Rayman, as well as shooting energy from its feet. After it is knocked down three times, Razorbeard attempts to take a giant jump and crush Rayman, but he misses and causes the floor to cave in. Rayman then falls with them.

Phase 2
Far away from Buccaneer, Ly the Fairy meditates in a small glade. She responds to Rayman's screams, and sends what looks like a Silver Lum to his location which saves him from falling into lava. The Lum catches him and gently guides him to safety, where he finds a flying shell. An image of Ly then appears to tell him that Polokus has destroyed all Robo-Pirates on the land and encourages him to defeat Razorbeard to complete their victory.

Rayman then turns around to see that Razorbeard and the Grolgoth have survived, and the second phase of the battle begins. In a room full of lava, his Grolgoth keeps itself away from the lava by holding itself up on two wooden posts and attacks by shooting heat seeking missiles as the battle goes on. Rayman attacks by finding an energy sphere in either of two tunnels, and shoots at each arm, causing the Grolgoth to fall in the lava. Eventually, Razorbeard abandons the Grolgoth and escapes, setting a five-second time bomb that explodes the entire Buccaneer with Rayman still in it.

In the area where Rayman encountered Polokus earlier in the game, everybody mourns over all they could find left of Rayman; his left shoe. But suddenly, the shoe starts glowing, and Rayman emerges from the trees nearby, holding a walking stick in his shoe's absence. The shoe bounces back to Rayman, and the Baby Globoxes run up to Rayman and hug him, happy for him to be alive, while everyone else cheers.

Unlimited ammo easter egg
The level features a hidden Easter egg in the form of a pickup which gives Rayman unlimited ammunition. It works on all versions, except the PlayStation one.

Hold the ‘jump’ and ‘shoot’ buttons, then fly to the highest part in the middle of the chamber. Instead of crashing, Rayman passes through it and finds himself in a secret tunnel. After avoiding some obstacles along the way, a glowing blue ball will be seen. Touch it, and Rayman is teleported back into the arena with unlimited ammo. This cheat is deactivated if Rayman dies, but it can be performed an unlimited number of times. (See the external links for a demonstration.)

The main difference in this version lies in Phase 2, in this phase the Grolgoth is flying backwards trough a endless tunnel and Rayman has to shoot the Grolgoth while avoiding all obstacles. There are also little differences in the Grolgoth's attacks in Phase 1. (See the external links for a demonstration.)

Another subtle difference is that part of the opening cutscene is removed, as the scene where Razorbeard hears that Rayman is on the ship and scolds the Spyglass Pirate for it occurs at the end of The Prison Ship instead.

|-

PlayStation 2 version
This level is identical to the original version, excepting graphical differences.

Trivia
Although the pipe section is generally seen as being the second part of the level, if the player dies during it they must start from the very beginning of the level. This makes The Crow's Nest the only level in any version of Rayman 2 to have no Green Lums.
Meanwhile, here's a small update for you! The main theme for this game will be split into several variations of itself: one regular, chirpy one, one sad, one retro, and one 'adventurous'. Said adventurous theme has already been made in its entirety, because I am planning to use it for my Music Class 'Masterpiece project'. Here's a sneak-a-peek-listen of a song you will definitely hear in the game:
Wall Run
The ability to wall run is a power in Rayman Origins. The power is granted to Rayman and company by the nymph Helena Handbasket in the level Moseying the Mountain. After rescuing her from the clutches of a Darktoon, she grants the heroes the ability to scale walls simply by running on to them, causing them to run up vertically. This power seems to be limitless, as there is no maximum time Rayman can be running up a wall, granted that there is still a wall to run up along. The power also allows for walking on ceilings. By running up a wall that is connected to the ceiling, Rayman will scale the wall, run up a curve and loop round to find himself on the ceiling. Certain moves, such as jumping, will get him off the ceiling, whereas one form of attack is still possible, without causing him to fall down.

The power is later on used in some of the more challenging parts of the game, to increase the need for jumping around. It will often be used in combination with hazards, either as a way to avoid them, like when avoiding a jet of fire, or as a way to be a path straight into them, such as when sawblades come falling down.

Would you like to use this for the Wiki? It's okay if you find it too much of an 'impression' - I liked making it anyway, but if you'd like to use if for the Wiki, could someone do it for me? I've tried looking at how other pages did it, but the result wasn't quite as I liked it when I used the above code.
:It's cool, but a bit too artistic to be used in the wiki. The article is meant to show the developers' creation, not our reinterpretations of it. We need something more along the lines of this. —Spiraldoor 15:02, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Hey guys, I made this:

Would you like to use this for the Wiki? It's okay if you find it too much of an 'impression' - I liked making it anyway, but if you'd like to use if for the Wiki, could someone do it for me? I've tried looking at how other pages did it, but the result wasn't quite as I liked it when I used the above code.
