* "Ah, the Land of the Livid Dead, at last. In any case, it’s nice and calm here. And here I was expecting a scary place filled with terrifying ghouls. Silly Gobox."
* "Rayman, you’re the coolest ever! And you’re my bestest friend."
* "Check out these gears! Remarkable! André’s already into heavy machinery. What a precocious child."
* "Enough with the costumes already! We gotta get to the doctor’s!"
* "Are you finally done goofin’ off? Can we get going now?"
* "Bravo! Well done! You’re the best! Can we go now?"
* "Cool, we get to meet the lady."
* "Hey, no fair, he’s protected by a sorcerer!"

Gonzo
* "Ah, this door leads to a shortcut that will allow you to catch up with them. Now hurry."
* "Ah, you will take this boat and go after them."
* "Oh, yeah? Let’s see about that. Otto. Roméo. Could you please hurry up?"
* "Oooh, don’t let him get away!"

Grand Minimus
...

King Gumsi
* "Silence!"
* "I said sileeence!"
* "Would you shut up, you stupid toad!"
* "Now Reflux is my champion, and no Knaaren has ever defeated him! Do you really believe that a limbless, little runt has a chance against him? No, but, really, I'm sure your friend will shine in the arena, when Reflux is burning his corpse! Let the combat begin!"
* "Oh, no, no, no! Shut your cake hole!"
* "Shut up, you idiot, I’m the king!"

Knaaren
* "Make him write bad checks."
* "Get off his flesh!"
* "Let him run. Meat better with salt."
* "Brain, fresh brain."
* "Get him."
* "Crush his bones."
* "Skin him."
* "Stick bamboo under his nails."
* "Poke him in the eyes."
* "Spit in his eye."
* "Hey, does anybody have any cough syrup?"

Ludivs
* "Oh, my god! What is going on here? Would you mind being any more quiet!"
* "Do you mind? Some of us are trying to work around here."
* "Hey, enough with the noise already!"
* "Is that you, Mary Lou?"

Ly the Fairy
...

Manual
* "Have you tried the mushrooms yet?"
* "André! -You’re supposed to say that the bad guy’s called André! Stick to the script, will you??"

Murfy
* "Ugh, look out Rayman! André's a Black Lum, and Black Lums are twisted. Maybe he'll even force Globox to drink plum juice, and we all know Globox is allergic to plum juice! See you in Rayman 4!"
* "There's André! Quick, shoot him! I can't cover you much longer!"
* "Woah, what could this be? 'Laser detergent that transforms your clothes into combat fatigues'!"
* "Don’t let him escape!"
* "Excuse me, have you seen André?"
* "Huh huh huh! How’s it hangin’, weiner dog? Come on, I’m kiddin’. Hey, I like that outfit on you. When does it come off? Huh huh huh! Don’t be so touchy. Here, check out what I found. The manual. It’s all in here. If you read the story, you’ll find your way out. ‘Once upon a time, there were Lums. Harmony. Love. Peace.’ Boring! ‘Suddenly, a Black Lum transforms the Red Lums into Hoodlums. The world is in great danger.’ Ooh, here we go, here we go. It says here that Globox took off with your hands."
* "What I tell ya, here come the bugs again!"
* "They’re raiding the Fairy Council! Enough is enough!"
* "I was told that after ‘Rayman 2’ I’d be cast as a tormented artist who falls for a girl with great, big…eh…eyes. And here I am, still playing a sidekick in some low-budget flick. Eesh."
* "Hahahaha, very stunning. Now you just gotta figure out how it works. Good luck."
* "Oh, no, here comes numbskull again."
* "Oooh, this place is crawlin’ with them."
* "Aaah! They’re shootin’ at us! How original of them."
* "Grab those red things, okay?"
* "Rayman, you truly are the best."
* "What? This is out of control! The manual claims that you can make a chopper outta your hair. Make a chopper off your hair. Huh. Sounds like someone’s been eatin’ paint chips again."
* "Globox? Globox! Heel!"
* "Globox, get back here!"
* "Bravo, Rayman."
* "Check it out, the Fairy Council. You’re lookin’ for action, this ain’t the place. Wacky spinsters around here."
* "This manual just blows my mind. Heh. It explains the switch’s trigger mechanism. Duh! Puh-lease. Who’s responsible for this garbage?"
* "Hey! Hey! Sounds like Globox!"
* "Show that barrel!"
* "Hey, room for a third?"
* "All this happiness in the beginning of the game. Something bad is gonna happen. I know it."
* "Good job, Rayman. Where would you be without you?"
* "The manual says you can curve your punches. Seems important."
* "Ah, looks like you’ve hit rock bottom. Get back up there!"

Otto Psi
* "You're too late. Reflux and André are already here."
* "If he finds the energy to multiply, all is lost."

Rats
* "Ooh! Harder!"
* "Eheheheh! I've been a bad boy! Ohohoh! A very very bad bad boy!"
* "Ohohoh! Don't hold back!"
* "Ahi! Pain for me!"

Rayman
* "I think I have an idea."
* "Combat fatigues! That's exactly what we need! You're right."
* "Knowing what a scaredy cat he is, he’s probably hiding someplace."
* "I’m sorry! I-I-I’m sorry! I-I-I didn’t-I didn’t mean to!"
* "Globox! Globox! Are you okay? Globox!"
* "Hey, we’re back where we started. Looks like we get a full night’s sleep, after all."
* "Hey, what’s the matter, Globox?"
* "Y’know, he’s happier now. Look at the Red Lums, how happy they seem."
* "I’m not sure that’s such a good idea. Besides, I wouldn’t know how to do it."
* "I hate to imagine what could possibly scare a Lum."

Reflux
*"Ah, step aside! He's mine!"

Roméo Patti
* "Like, they're going to invoke the Leptys and gain unimaginable powers, dude."
* "Uh, like, uh, if they succeed in, like, uh, invoking the Leptys, uh, like, the whole world will, like, uh, go up in smoke, dude."
* "Dude, still in bed? Well, it must’ve been a late night. Uh huh huh. Just kidding. Haha. My colleague explained everything. Well, it seems like you swallowed a Black Lum. Major bummer. You see, Black Lums reproduce like some kinda crazy weed. They’re really wacky. Let’s see if we can, y’know, hook you up with something to take the pain away, huh? How’s that sound? Hold on a sec here."
* "Dude, like, the Lum is so fast."

Teensies
* "I have to go drop the kids off at the pool."
* "I have to go powder my nose."
* "I have to go walk my flowers and water my dog."
* "Oh, lucky me. I have to go iron my kilt."
* "Yay, I need to go alphabetize my sausages."
* "I have to go wash my hair."
* "I have to go. I have an appointment with my psychic."
* "I have to go soup up my hot rod."
* "I have to go file my taxes."
* "I have to go upholster my sofa."
* "Little grasshopper, hit the gong. It will attract the Knaaren."
* "I’ll meet you downstairs."
* "One of my brothers is still held captive. Free him, and we’ll open up our world for you."
* "I gotta go! Nature calls!"
* "I gotta go finish my yogurt."
* "Ha-hey, big nose! If you want to cross the desert, you need to use the tunnels."
* "But, it won’t be easy. The tunnels are swarming with Knaaren. And those beasts are in-vince-i-ble."
* "Yeah, well, you got a better idea?"
* "Okay, listen closely, big nose. Do not let the Knaaren get near you. You understand? Never! If they get their claws on you, you’re dead. Well, it wasn’t nice knowin’ ya!"
* "I have to go finish my snowman."
* "I have to go flush the toilet."
* "I have to go. I’m late for my drum solo."

Category tree
Is there any particular reason why RayWiki's category system is so different from those of other wikis such as Wikipedia? Here it is common to see pages categorised within large categories and simultaneously categorised bwithin subcategories of the large categories. For example, Moskito is a member of the 'Bosses', 'Bosses from Rayman 1', 'Enemies' and 'Enemies from Rayman 1' categories – why is this necessary? The fact that Moskito is categorised under 'Bosses from Rayman 1' indicates that he is also a member of the other three categories; even if the other three were removed from the Moskito article, he would still be a member of them, because 'Bosses from Rayman 1' is a subcategory of both 'Bosses' and 'Enemies from Rayman 1', which is itself a subcategory of 'Enemies'. I suggest that we remove all superfluous categorisations from our articles and adopt the much more efficient categorisation system employed by Wikipedia. If anyone has found my descriptions confusing, here are illustrations of Wikipedia's system and our current one. Thoughts? —Spiraldoor 20:24, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
:While it would definitely be a great idea to have a clean categorisation tree, I'm afraid that the upper level categories will not appear at the bottom of the page even if the article is classified under one of their subcategories, and that the said articles will not appear in those categories' pages either. It's a question of legibility vs optimisation. — 14:43, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
::I'm aware that the upper categories do not appear on the bottom of pages contained in their subcategories, but I don't view this as a problem. For example, under the Wikipedia system, the only category on the Magician's page would be 'Friends from Rayman 1' (which makes the other three categories redundant). The 'Characters' category (which is excessively broad under our current system) would contain only its fifteen subcategories, but would not directly contain any pages – much like the way Wikipedia's 'People' category contains only subcategories rather than tens of thousands of individual pages. A user viewing our 'Characters' category would be able to click on any of its fifteen subcategories, which would contain more specific lists of characters. Likewise a user who clicks on the 'Friends from Rayman 1' category at the bottom of the Magician's page would find that this category is a subcategory of 'Friends' and 'Characters from Rayman 1', both of which are subcategories of 'Characters'. There's no need to have a redundantly long list containing every single connotedly-applicable category on every single page – isn't this exactly the sort of thing subcategories exist to prevent? Otherwise what's the point of subcategories at all? —Spiraldoor 15:20, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
::::::I don't want to create more subcategories – I think we have enough already. I want us to stop grouping articles in gargantuan super-categories like 'Characters' (94 pages) and 'Enemies' (126 pages). By way of comparison, Wikipedia's 'People' category contains a tree of many subcategories, but no individual articles. This is what I'm suggesting. If Wikipedia followed the system we currently use, there would be hundreds of redundant categories at the end of almost every single article – it's just not efficient. —Spiraldoor 18:50, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Beyond Good & Evil is an action-adventure video game published by Ubi Soft in 2003. The game was created and designed by French games developer Michel Ancel, who also created the Rayman series. Beyond Good & Evil was developed concurrently with Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. Ancel opted out of the latter game's development to work on BG&E; after spending several years on the Rayman games, he wished to move on to something different. The game was released to critical praise, but it was a commercial failure. A sequel is currently planned, but the developers have taken a break to work on Rayman Origins.

The game's score was composed by Christophe Héral, who is reportedly composing the soundtrack for Rayman Origins.

Plot
Beyond Good & Evil takes place in the year 2435, on a once-idyllic mining planet named Hillys. The game's world is inhabited by a society composed of humans and anthropomorphic animals who co-exist peacefully. The architecture seen in the game is of a rustic European style, but more technologically advanced elements such as credit cards, email, hovercrafts and spaceships and are also featured.

The game's main protagonist is a young photojournalist named Jade (voiced by Jodi Forrest, who also provided the vocalisations for Tily, Razorwife and Globette in Rayman M and Rayman Rush). She lives in a lighthouse orphanage with her adoptive uncle – an anthropomorphic pig named Pey'j (voiced by David Gasman, the actor who has voiced Rayman since 1999). Like Rayman, Jade's origins are mysterious, and she is eventually revealed as a ‘chosen one’ with unique abilities. By the opening of the game, Hillys is beset my a monstrous alien force known as the DomZ, which comprise the majority of the enemies encountered throughout the game. Parallels can be drawn between the DomZ and the space-faring Robo-Pirates in Rayman 2. A dictatorial military group known as the Alpha Sections exercise an authoritarian regime over the Hyllian people under the guise of protecting them from the DomZ. Early on in the game, Jade is contacted by the IRIS Network, an underground organisation intent on uncovering the conspiracy between the DomZ and the Alpha Sections and liberating the people from their rule.

Gameplay
While primary a third-person action-adventure game, Beyond Good & Evil features elements of various other video game genres, including stealth, puzzle-solving and racing. Jade combats enemies with a Daï-jo staff, but also gains the ability to fire disc projectiles later in the game. A substantial number of the game's missions involve photography; Jade is often required to take photographs revealing the Alpha Sections' true nature, but optional side-quests involve photographing wildlife for rewards. At one point in the game, the player can come across a mosquito from the Rayman series, which is identified as ‘Aedes Raymanis’ (‘Fly from Rayman’). The world of Hyllis is presented as a single continuous environment broken only by load zones; there are no distinct levels, and the player must travel manually from place to place, as in Rayman Revolution.

Jade's primary mode of transport is a hovercraft, which can be used to travel the watery streets of the main city and the surrounding seaside area.

One particularly overt parallel between Beyond Good & Evil and the Rayman series occurs during the game's final boss battle. The DomZ High Priest exerts a confusing influence on Jade, partially causing her to lose over her body; this is represented by the player's directional controls being reversed. Exactly the same scenario occurs in the Candy Château at the end of the original Rayman; the villain, Mr Dark, casts a spell on Rayman which causes the player's directional controls to be reversed.
I hate Raving Rabbids so. I have 2 Revolution 3 and M for the Ps2 and 1,2 The Great Escape,3 and
Colour Palette
Now that I checked that Dark Ray has a different colour palette than the original Bad Rayman... In which cases a different colour palette makes a character different? Because I read the Dark Rayman article and the only difference between him and Bad Rayman is the colour palette. Maybe they look different, but they share exactly the same concept of an evil clone of Rayman, and both are, possibly, the exact same character. Actually, in the Atari Jaguar and Gameboy Advance versions of Rayman 1 Bad Rayman is named "Dark Rayman", like in Rayman Arena. Why don't we just put together both articles? I can understand that there's a clear difference between Dark Globox and Gromblox, as both have different concepts (one is an evil clone, the other one is just a criminal glute), but Dark Rayman and Bad Rayman being different characters? I don't think so.--Sergiomonty 07:06, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
:To make it short, the skin in Origins is almost identical to Bad Rayman from the original game, while the one in Arena looks nothing like him. :Atari Jaguar? But Bad Rayman does not appear in this version... I wonder if both characters can be considered the same, but I don't believe... The Magician is a major character in the Rayman series. He makes his first appearance in the original Rayman, where he seems to be a member of Rayman's limbless species. His next major role is in Rayman Origins, where he is revealed to be a Teensie. (According to unused dialogue from this game, his real name is Ales Mansay.) In the intermediate years, the Magician also appeared in several educational spin-offs of the original game, such as Rayman Junior and English with Rayman.

Character description
Appearance
In the original Rayman, the Magician appears to be part of the same limbless species as Rayman. He bears all of the signature traits – lack of limbs, large nose and white gloves. He has long blonde hair that nearly reaches the ground, and his eyes are always covered by his long black top hat, which shines in blue and purple and has a gold star on the front. (He often retreats into this hat, and can be found hiding inside it in many levels.) He has also been seen wearing shirts of two colours – in the introduction sequence of Rayman, he wears a purple shirt with two blue buttons, but in the game itself, this is blue with golden buttons. The colour of his shoes – purple and orchid – remain the same, but with different stripe patterns. He is also noticeably shorter than Rayman is in Rayman, but in the educational games, he is approximately the same height as Betilla the Fairy. According to English with Rayman, the Magician has a cousin named Andrew.

In Rayman Origins, the Magician is no longer a member of Rayman's species – like several other characters, he has been redesigned to better fit the world established in the Rayman sequels. The Magician is now a grey-haired Teensie who wears a purple shirt and a black coat. He still has his signature, star-adorned top hat, and can still be found hiding inside it in various levels.

Video game appearances
Rayman
The Magician first appears in the introduction of Rayman, in which he tells the story of how Mr Dark stole the Great Protoon and brought about the collapse of the valley's natural stability. He calls on Rayman to go and free the Electoons from the cages that hostile beings had imprisoned them in, as well as bring the Great Protoon back from the Candy Château.

Rayman can come across the Magician's hat several times throughout the game. The Magician only emerges from it if Rayman has at least ten Tings; if not, he will clearly indicate with his hand that the hero will need them. If Rayman does have at least ten Tings, he automatically reaches out and drops them into the Magician's outstretched hand. The Magician then teleports Rayman to one of his bonus levels. In these secret areas, Rayman must collect all the Tings within the time limit. If he succeeds, he wins an extra life. Only a single life can be won in each bonus level. Subsequent victories in the same bonus levels are purely for fun, and also record the time taken by the player so that they can attempt to beat their records if they wish.

Rayman Junior
In several of the educational versions of the original game, such as Rayman Junior, the Magician's roles are looked into considerably more. He introduces the story of the game once again, only this time, he tells of how Mister Dark had broken into his cottage, stole the Great Book of Knowledge and destroyed the map to the villain's hideout. Once again, he and Betilla the Fairy call on Rayman to retrieve the pieces of the map and the book.

Instead of providing bonus areas, the Magician now helps Rayman to solve the many problems (spelling and mathematical problems for the young player) throughout the journey. When Rayman starts a level, the Magician will give him an overview of the specific tasks he needs to do in order to complete it. After that, his hat will appear several times, and each time Rayman passes one, the Magician will either ask a new question or remind him of the level's task. At the very end of the last stage in the level, he will appear somewhere once the final task is done, and when Rayman finds him, he mostly does a different performance, such as doing a dance or rapping 90's style, while praising Rayman for what he has done.

Rayman Origins
The Magician makes his next appearance in the sequel game, Rayman Origins. The Magician is first encountered at the beginning of the game: he is found inside his distinctive top hat, which is sitting on the ground outside the Snoring Tree. Each time one of the players jumps on the hat, the Magician offers a few words of advice. The hat appears in many places throughout the game, and the players can jump on it at any time for tips relevant to their current situation. However, there are some hints at his darker side; he makes sarcastic comments, and has little concern for the heroes, beyond using them as a source of Lums. Sometimes he even questions Rayman's position as a hero.

At the end of each level, he is seen holding a test tube which he uses to count the number of Lums collected by the players. In exchange for certain numbers of Lums, he gives the heroes Electoons, but if the players reach the top of the test tube, they receive a Lum Medal. In these post-level screens, the Magician can be seen fully: he is revealed to be a Teensie rather than a member of Rayman's species, and his hair is now grey rather than blonde.

In The Reveal, the final level of the Moody Clouds and the game itself (excepting the Land of the Livid Dead, a bonus level), the heroes reach what they think is Mr Dark's headquarters, only to find the Magician working the controls of the diabolical machinery encountered throughout the level. Caught, the Magician spins round and gleefully rips the golden star off his hat before pulling a lever, causing the heroes to fall down a trap door, where they must fight mechanical recreations of the Daisy and Mocking Bird bosses. Once these have been defeated, the heroes climb back to the office of the Magician, where he distracts them with a disco number before running away. The heroes must them pursue him through a storm of falling debris and broken machinery as the Moody Clouds begin to disintegrate. Eventually the Magician hops onboard an airship, and the heroes must pursue him on the backs of their mosquito friends. Eventually the airship crashes into the fiery core of the Moody Clouds, causing an enormous explosion. The heroes fall from the sky and land back at the Snoring Tree, where the game began.

The game does not make it clear whether the Magician is an admirer of Mr Dark, or Mr Dark himself. According to an early version of the game's script, a much more complex storyline was once intended. The Magician, real name Ales Mansay, was bullied and ostracised by the other Teensies at magic school for his poor magical abilities. Although he helped Rayman to overcome Mr Dark in the original game, the Magician secretly admired the villain's dark and mysterious nature, and wanted to emulate him. He also developed a hatred for the Bubble Dreamer, whose nightmares had repeatedly overcome the Glade of Dreams and were a constant threat to its inhabitants. The Magician concocted a plan. He hid a microphone in the Snoring Tree, so that the heroes' snoring would irritate and ultimately start a war with the Livid Dead. Throughout the game, he pretended that he was still a friend of the heroes, allowing him to collect Lums from them in exchange for Electoons which they could use to reach new levels. The Magician used these Lums to power his mechas: gigantic machines which he was building to take over the Glade of Dreams, imposing order and eliminating the chaos of the Bubble Dreamer's nightmares. Eventually the heroes reach the Magician's headquarters in the Moody Clouds and put a stop to his plans.

Almost all of this storyline was removed from the final version of the game. It is unknown whether the developers changed their minds about the storyline itself, or removed it for some other reason. In its final state, the game seems to imply that the Magician is no more than an alias of Mr Dark; this conclusion is supported by the game's manual, which claims that Mr Dark is in the game. However, there are some hints that the original storyline may still be the case: a microphone disguised as a flower can indeed be seen in the Snoring Tree, and the walls of the Magican's headquarters are decorated with posters which show silhouettes of a different-looking Mr Dark, with a wide-topped hat and long, spindly arms. One of the Magician's posters even says ‘♥ Mister D’.
