Murfy (sometimes spelt Murphy, and known as JM Murphy in Rayman Arena) is Rayman's guide, sometimes referred to as his instructor or sidekick. He made his début in Rayman 2: The Great Escape and its remakes (excluding the PlayStation version in which his role is taken by Ly the Fairy, and other greenbottles are often found in cages), later appears in Rayman Arena as a reporter, reprises his role as Rayman's coach for a short while in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, again in Rayman Origins, and debuts as a playable character in Rayman Legends. His nickname is ‘The Flying Encyclopedia’, and it is his job to provide as much information about the world to Rayman as he can, as well as teaching him how to train and perform his moves. In the PlayStation version of Rayman 2 his role is taken by Ly the Fairy, and other greenbottles are often found in cages. Murfy returns in Rayman Adventures acting as a pointer if the player is playing with a Bluetooth controller.

Character description
Murfy is a small flying creature with a green head, and despite his frog-like appearance, he is actually a greenbottle, a sort of fly, as revealed in the instruction booklet of Rayman 3. He always sports a huge cheesy grin showing large teeth, and is always dressed in green, yellow and purple clothes, almost identical of those of the Grand Minimus Teensies. In Rayman Arena, he takes on the role of a reporter, and pesters the competitors between their matches. In his appearance in Rayman 3 he has undergone a number of changes, such as his hands and eyes, which are now much bigger than in Rayman 2, and his wings have become more fly-like. His clothes have also been slightly changed, notably his shoes which are elf-like. He also appears to have fingers and legs now, unlike the previous game.

The greenbottles are known to play practical jokes; many Ludivs have fallen victim to their pranks, and have been stripped of their glasses.

Role in the games
Rayman 2
In all versions of Rayman 2 (except for the PlayStation and Game Boy Color versions), Murfy seems to be an innocent character that serves as a guide for Rayman, giving him instructions on how to pull off his moves while going through the Woods of Light. All around the world there are Stones of Thought. If Rayman stands next to one of these for a while and thinks, Murfy will come back to him and repeat his instructions.

Rayman Revolution
Murfy's job as an instructor is a little more looked into at the beginning of Rayman Revolution, as there is an extra stage after the Woods of Light in which he along with a baby Globox teaches Rayman how to swim and how to shoot, using a scarecrow as his first target.

Rayman Arena
In Rayman Arena (but not Rayman M), Murfy appears and takes on the role of a 'Special Reporter', who pesters the characters between their competitive matches like a stereotypical paparazzo. At the end of the game, the characters grow tired of him and beat him up. His name appears as 'JM Murphy' in this game.

Rayman 3
Murfy later appears in Rayman 3, and this time he carries a Manual (a purple booklet with a picture of the original Raymans face on it and Rayman's symbol on the inside), which he reads from instead of passing his own knowledge to Rayman. He develops a more cocky personality than before, and often rants about how he is stuck with being a sidekick, as well as giving witty comments and sarcastic remarks about the Manual as Rayman goes through the Fairy Council. In this game, he is voiced by Billy West, who had also voiced Rayman in The Animated Series four years earlier, as well as voicing Murfy in Rayman Arena. Unlike Rayman 2, in which he can appear anywhere in the game which has a Stone of Thought, Murfy leaves the player at the Heart of the World, promising to “See you in Rayman 4!”.

Rayman Origins
Murfy appears once again at the beginning of Rayman Origins, shortly after Rayman and his friends escape from their cage at the Snoring Tree and free the Bubble Dreamer. He tells the heroes that they must free Electoons in order to restore the energy that the Bubble Dreamer has lost and build bridges to new worlds. After that, his role in the game is to hold a sign that indicates how many Electoons are required to unlock secret characters. He also appears at the beginning of the Electoon Bridge levels, congratulating the heroes for getting enough Electoons to pass. If players die on a level a certain number of times, Murfy will appear, suggesting to leave the place. In this game Murfy has shedded his jaded and sarcastic personality of Rayman 3; he acts more like his Rayman 2 self. Also, he wears different clothes from the other games. He wears a green robe with light-orange edges and bare feet.

Rayman Legends
Murfy makes his debut as a playable character in Rayman Legends. He appears in the opening cutscene where the Bubble Dreamer discusses the events that have passed since Rayman Origins and witnessing how the nightmares have multiplied in the intervening years, to combat this force, he is ordered to awaken Rayman and friends, who current sleep in a forest. His moveset in the game is different to that of the other characters. Instead, he is controlled with the touchscreen on the Wii U gamepad and PS Vita, however, in the PC, PS3 and Xbox versions, commands Murfy can do that are needed to progress are activated with a single button. Murfy's main role in the game is to provide assistance and help Rayman and his friends to get across different areas, unlock secrets or facilitate fights by interacting with the environment.

Other games
Murfy also makes brief appearances in many handheld Rayman games, such as Rayman 3 for the GBA and Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge, in which he relates the games' instructions as before. In the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, he is sent to help Rayman escape from his cell. He appears also in Rayman Kart for counting laps and putting unfortunate racers back on the track.

Cameos
* Although Murfy is in the Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids as a guide, his face can also be seen painted on a target in the 'Shoot a Rabbid' minigame.
* The worms in the Rayman Raving Rabbids minigame 'Bunnies don't use toothpaste' resemble Murfy.
* In Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 and Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party, Murfy has the default third highest score on each minigame, scoring 6000 on each.
* In the Apple TV version of Rayman Adventures Murfy acts as a cursor (since there is no touch screen).
* The manual for the PlayStation version of Rayman 2 refers to the greenbottles that appear as "The Murfies" suggesting that Murfy is actually the name of his race, not him specifically. All other accounts contradict this.

Rayman
Livingstones are common enemies who only appear in levels of the Dream Forest. They are averagely-resistant enemies who freely wander on their platform, turning backwards when they face an obstacle. Rayman must simply avoid contact with them. If not eliminated in one hit, they go crazy and charge toward him until he punches them again or they fall in water. In the Atari Jaguar version, however, they will run toward him regardless of what he does.

Besides Rayman's fists, another way of defeating them is for him to use his grimace, which frightens them and makes them run away from instead of towards him and eventually fall into water. Rayman can also punch a plum onto their heads causing them to become dizzy but continue walking as usual, allowing him to jump onto the plum and use them as a walking platform to reach higher places or finish them off normally.

Another variety of Livingstones are Small Livingstones which, as their name implies, are shorter than standard Livingstones, but they are also more aggressive in their attempts to hurt Rayman and are more adept at dodging blows from his telescopic fist.
Like most of the returning Rayman characters, they have been redesigned, and now have limbs (rendering Rayman himself almost unique), visible mouths, longer and more crooked noses, and more scraggy body structures. Their appearance is also more zombie-like. Like most enemies in the game, they have only one resistance point, and can be defeated and bubblized easily. They can no longer be driven crazy by punching or grimacing at them. Their way of offense is to either headbutt Rayman or wave their hands in a cowardly manner. They are revealed to enjoy bullying Lums, poking their faces, playing basketball with their bodies and using their heads as deodorant. They are also revealed to be the lackeys of the Hunters. The smaller variant of Lividstones aren't present in this game, but there are different kinds of Lividstones, some of them holding bamboo sticks to attack the characters, and others with spikes on their hats to hurt anyone who attempts to crush them.

Rayman Legends
Livingstones return as enemies in Rayman Legends. However, they're no longer explorers, but a gang of bandits who break into the houses of the helpless Green Teensies who inhabit the area. In this game, they wear blue hats with a red feather, a small sleeveless brown shirt, brown wristbands, a pair of patched blue pants held by a rope, and an orange neckerchief that covers part of their faces. Their main weapons are planks with pointy nails, and their parachutes allow them to ambush. Murfy can interact with them by cutting their parachutes, and stun them to let the other players attack them; Murphy can also grab them and move them wherever he wants. Normal green Livingstones also appear in the game but only in the Back To Origins levels.

Rayman Adventures is a 2D sidescroller platform game for iOS and Android devices, that uses the same graphical style of Rayman Legends. It was made available in soft launch in New Zealand on July 21, 2015, in Canada on August 25, 2015 and was released worldwide December 3, 2015. The game’s graphical fidelity runs at 60 frames-per-second. This is the first Rayman game to be released on Apple TV, and this version also includes Murfy who acts like a cursor.

Plot
The game starts with a cutscene in which several Livingstones on flying ships are seen stealing all the Ancient Eggs that sustain the Sacred Tree. One egg however falls down and lands on either Rayman or Barbara, depending on which character the player chooses to start playing as. Rayman or Barbara then chase down the egg until they finally catch it. Upon catching it a creature hatches from the egg explaining what just happened. The player then meets up with The Captain who helps them out on their quest to save all the eggs.

Gameplay
Rayman Adventures is a running game just like its mobile predecessor, but unlike Jungle Run and Fiesta Run, the player can change the direction they are running to. The game has levels that the hero can explore, albeit while running constantly, with the ability to change direction while playing. So it's still an auto-runner, but a bit of a different approach from the previous two games. New to the game are small roundish creatures known as the Incrediballs: the goal of the game is to rescue them. Once rescued, they will assist the hero in their quest. Each Incrediball have their own unique ability to help the hero, such as being able to detect nearby Teensies, protecting the hero or being able to collect a bunch of Lums for the hero. In each level the player can use up to three Incrediballs at a time, provided they are not tired after a level. If they are, they can be reawakened by feeding them with food (seen in the game as a chicken leg). There are three main categories that the Incrediballs are divided into - Seekers, who use a torch to show the player up to three secrets such as Teensies and Skull Coins; Protectors, who act as a temporary shield if the player takes damage; and Inhalers, who use their trunks to inhale nearby Lums. Seekers and Protectors become tired when they have spent their skills, while Inhalers only become tired after the level is complete.

The game is divided up into adventures which contains 3-4 levels each and can not be revisited. Each levels has 3 rewards the hero can get depending on their amount of Lums or time, depending on the type of level. There are 4 types of levels: exploration levels, Lum Lum levels, brawl levels and time challenges. Each adventure has a harder optional level with a skull on the icon. This level will give to twice as much rewards as normal levels if the player completes it.

Once all obligatory levels in an adventure are completed the player will get the egg. There are four type of eggs; bronze, silver, gold and crystal eggs. The bronze grows the tree 10 meters if it's a new creature, the silver 20, the gold 30 and crystal 40. If it's not a new creature in the egg it will will up the clon-o-meter by 1 step if it's bronze, 2 for silver etc. Once the clon-o-meter is filled up the player will get the choice to either get 20 gems or wait to get a lucky ticket. Waiting a second time will earn them a golden ticket.

There are a total of 126 Incrediballs to earn. Each time the player gets one they grow their tree a bit higher and the they're added to the sacred tree where they are grouped in families. Finding all in one family grants them a reward. When the tree grows it will sometimes hit presents that are above it. The presents can unlock new worlds or gems.

Worlds
*Medieval Mayhem
*Olympus Maximus
*Sea of Serendipity
*Toad Story
*The Dojo (Coming Soon)

The worlds in the game are mostly based on the worlds from Rayman Legends, for example Medieval Mayhem is based on Teensies in Trouble. The new worlds are unlocked by collecting Incrediballs and growing the Sacred Tree

Shop
Rayman Adventures introduces a shop similarly to Rayman Fiesta Run, though this time items are purchased using gems which the player earns from daily rewards, by completing levels etc. The different items that are available to purchase are following:
*Gem Pack - Gems can be purchased using real money or by watching an ad
*Tickets - These work similarly to Rayman Legends and come in two forms; normal lucky tickets and golden lucky tickets. Golden lucky tickets give the player better rewards though cost more
*Costumes - Costumes are available for the games two characters Rayman and Barbara with Globox, and Teensie currently only being available on iOS.
*Elixirs - Elixirs are used on eggs to improve them in different ways. If a "New Creature" elixir is used on an egg it will hatch a new creature and the Silver and Gold elixirs will turn the egg into he respective type of egg. The last elixir is used to speed the waiting time up and reduces it by 30 minutes, though it can not be purchased using gems.
*Beatbox Saving Slots - New slots for saving songs composed in the beatbox
{|

* In the Apple TV version of Rayman Adventures Murfy will select things in menus (since there is no touch screen).
* The manual for the PlayStation version of Rayman 2 refers to the greenbottles that appear as "The Murfies" suggesting that Murfy is actually the name of his race, not him specifically. All other accounts contradict this.
