Don't forget the name of this marvel: the Grolgoth!|sign=The General to Admiral Razorbeard|source=Rayman 2: The Great Escape}}

The Grolgoth is a giant robot which Admiral Razorbeard uses in an attempt to put a stop to Rayman at the Crow's Nest. Piloted by Razorbeard, it is the final boss of Rayman 2 and the Game Boy Advance/N-GAGE version of Rayman 3.

In Rayman 2
At a very late point in Rayman 2, Razorbeard is visited by the General, a character who first appeared in Tonic Trouble, another Ubisoft game which Michel Ancel worked on. The General advertises the Grolgoth and its functions to Razorbeard. The Admiral pictures the contraption crushing and shaking Rayman to death with its deadly grasp, and decides to buy it, giving the General a chest of gold as payment. He then prepares for his attack while Rayman is makes his way through the Prison Ship.

The Grolgoth is a large machine comprising of a large, golden-coloured bulk, with articulable arms and legs, similar to those of the Robo-Pirates. The Grolgoth's hemisphere-shaped head can extend from the body, revealing the entrance to this robotic marvel. Razorbeard jumps in and slides down a rope. At the bottom is located a cockpit, from which Razorbeard controls the machine. For its right hand, it has a cannon, which fires helicopter bombs that Rayman will have to shoot back at the Grolgoth in order to hurt it. The other hand has a hook, which sees no use in the battle. The Grolgoth can also shoot large energy balls from the soles of its feet.

A diagram of the Grolgoth can be found on a table in the Pirate Factory, an area exclusive to Rayman Revolution. This paradoxically seems to suggest that the Robo-Pirates created the Grolgoth, or had some awareness of it prior to the cutscene in which Admiral Razorbeard purchases it from the General.

Final battle, first phase
Admiral Razorbeard places the Grolgoth at the top of the Buccaneer's mast. He also places Globox, dangling over the edge of the ship from a large elevator's antenna. Before Razorbeard shoots Globox to his doom, Rayman appears through the elevator, shouting that Razorbeard shall leave Globox alone. Razorbeard takes advantage of Rayman's position and shoots down the elevator. As Razorbeard believes himself victorious, Rayman pulls himself back up on the platform. After checking to ensure that Globox is safe, the fight begins.

The Grolgoth is immune to Rayman's shots, and starts with heavy attacks such as shooting helicopter bombs, fast energy balls and trying to jump on Rayman to squash him. Rayman will have to shoot the helicopter bombs back at the Grolgoth, but straight on, otherwise the Grolgoth will evade them.

Final battle, second phase
After Rayman has hit the Grolgoth three times, a cutscene starts in which Razorbeard make the Grolgoth jump on Rayman and squash him, but the jump cuts short, causing the Grolgoth to break the platform on which the fight is occurring. Both Rayman and the Grolgoth fall down into the heart of the Buccaneer, a chamber filled with boiling lava.

Rayman is saved by Ly, who sends a Silver Lum-like ball of energy to catch Rayman in mid-air, and lower him safely to a small pipe sticking out of the lava, on which a friendly Flying Shell has been stationed. Ly's face appears in Rayman's mind, and she informs him that Polokus has eliminated all of the Robo-Pirates on the land and that the slaves have escaped (with the help of Rayman, seen in the PS1, PS2 and Dreamcast version of the game). Rayman sees that Razorbeard has survived the fall as well, with the Grolgoth clinging between two metal pipes going up the chamber's walls.

Rayman flies on the flying shell, both having to find ammo hidden inside the chamber and avoid the homing energy-balls that Razorbeard shoots after him. Rayman must use the ammo to shoot energy-balls at the Grolgoth's hands, causing it to slip and fall into the lava. When the Grolgoth is struggling to get out of the lava, it loses some health; Rayman can damage it more by shooting at it while it's still in the lava. Should Rayman get hit just once during this phase of the battle, his Flying Shell will explode and the battle begins as new from the beginning of Phase 2. When Razorbeard reaches 20% health, he will climb up to the top of the chamber and temporarily raise the level of lava. This can happen several times. When Razorbeard's health reaches 0%, the Grolgoth stalls and falls into the lava. Razorbeard crawls out, dragging an escape pod with him. Before abandoning the Buccaneer, he says: "I've saved one last little surprise for you", and presses a button on a remote-control device, triggering the Grolgoth's self-destruct mechanism. Razorbeard in his escape pod flies straight up the mast of the ship, through the Crow's Nest and to safety. The Grolgoth detonates, blowing the Buccaneer to pieces and apparently killing Rayman. Razorbeard continues flying upwards until he reaches space.
Final battle, second phase (PlayStation version)
In the PS1 version of Rayman 2, the second phase is extremely different from the other versions. After the cutscene where Rayman and Razorbeard fall down into the Buccaneer and Rayman is saved by Ly, Rayman will have to fly the Flying Shell through a long horizontal pipe, with controls limited to 2D movement. The Grolgoth will be flying backwards, facing Rayman. Rayman can shoot normally from the Flying Shell, but his shots only do not hurt the Grolgoth. Razorbeard will shoot slow-moving energy-balls that Rayman must avoid, and shoot helicopter bombs which can be fired back at him. Should Rayman get hit, he will not die, but lose health as normal. Every time Razorbeard has fired six helicopter bombs, he will cast a number of spiked mines, which fill increasing amounts of the screen as the battle wears on. Rayman must find a spot to pass in between the mines without getting hit. After the Grolgoth has reached 30% health, it begins to shoot powerful homing missiles, which fly towards Rayman. Rayman must dodge them, after which they will circle around and appear behind him, still homing; Rayman can then position himself (and the homing missile) towards Razorbeard, so that the homing missile will hit the Grolgoth. Razorbeard can dodge the missiles if they are not aimed correctly. When Razorbeard's health reaches 0, the final cutscene begins as normal.

The Grolgoth reappears in the handheld adaptation of Rayman, where it is once again used by the Admiral Razorbeard to battle Rayman. Presumably this Grolgoth is a different unit to the one which was destroyed at the end of Rayman 2. It appears only in Heart of the Ancients, the final level of the game (excluding bonus levels). As in Rayman 2, this Grolgoth's battle consists of two separate phases. In the first phase, the Grolgoth is fought in a manner not dissimilar from those of the bosses in the original Rayman game; Rayman must avoid the Grolgoth's alternating high and low energy blasts while punching its metal helicopter bombs back at it in order to damage it. In the second phase, Rayman and the Grolgoth continue their battle in a spacious underground dungeon. Rayman rides a flying shell, and must manoeuvre it to trick the Grolgoth's homing missiles into striking the Grolgoth itself; this is also how Rayman defeats the Grolgoth in the PlayStation version of Rayman 2. Once defeated, this Grolgoth collapses to the ground, destroyed. Razorbeard is not seen again.

Michel Ancel is a French video game designer and the creator of Rayman. He was heavily involved in the development of both the original Rayman game and Rayman 2, though he had only an advisory role in the production of Rayman 3. He continued designing Rayman games with Rayman 4, though this game was cancelled in favour of Rayman Raving Rabbids and was never released.

Personal life
Michel Ancel was born in Monaco on the 29th of March, 1972. Ancel is currently married to Alexandra Ancel née Steible, with whom he has two children. He is the stepfather of Alexandra's four older children, and has two more children of his own from a previous relationship. His eldest child, Claire, was born when he was sixteen years old. Alexandra worked with Ancel on the first two Rayman games, as well as Beyond Good & Evil and King Kong.

Video game developing career
Ancel met the game developer Nicolas Choukroun in Montpellier at the age of 17. He worked as a graphics artist on several of Choukroun's games, such as The Intruder and Pick'n Pile. Ancel's first demo, Mechanic Warriors, was developed for software house Lankhor. In 1988, Ancel created a computer animation illustrating the effect of CFCs on the ozone layer as part of a competition in a professional journal. The animation, which depicted the Earth being transformed into a vast desert, did not win the competition; however, it attracted the attention of Ubi Soft, who hired him as a graphics artist.

Ancel's first game as both programmer and graphic artist, The Brain Blasters (also known as The Teller) was published by Ubi Soft in 1990. In 1992, he began to work on Rayman 1, his directorial debut. It was originally released in 1995 for the Atari Jaguar and PC, and in 1996 for PlayStation and Sega Saturn.

Ancel was also heavily involved in the development of Rayman 2: The Great Escape in 1999, but had only an advisory role on Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. Although he praised its development team, he says that the game is "a bit too concrete for my tastes", and that he "would have made the game differently".

In 2003, he created Beyond Good & Evil, which garnered critical acclaim and a cult following, but was a commercial failure. However, acclaimed film director Peter Jackson's admiration for the game – and his frustration with EA's handling of the The Lord of the Rings license – led to Ancel being given direction of the Peter Jackson's King Kong video game adaptation. In spite of Ubisoft's reluctance to produce a Beyond Good & Evil sequel, Ancel has expressed a clear wish to produce one in the future.

On March 13, 2006, Ancel, along with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Alone in the Dark/Little Big Adventure creator Frédérick Raynal, was knighted by the French Minister of Culture and Communication, Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, a knight of arts and literature. It was the first time that video game developers were honoured with this distinction.

Ancel is also recognized as one of the best game designers in IGN's Top 100 Game Creators, ranking 24th out of 100.

Current projects
On April 5, 2006, Ubisoft announced Ancel was leading the development of the fourth game in the Rayman series, Rayman Raving Rabbids, for the Nintendo Wii. The game began production in early 2005 and was released on November 15, 2006 for the launch of the Wii. However, Ancel was notably absent from the project after its E3 announcement, and he has made no public appearances regarding the game after the development team switched focus from a free-roaming platformer to the final minigames format shortly after E3. In the final game, Ancel was only credited with storyboarding and character design, while design credits were shared between multiple other people.

In an interview with Nintendo Power, Ancel confirmed that he was working on a new project which meant a lot to him. He also talked about Jade from Beyond Good & Evil and said that "I really hope that Jade will continue to keep her values and her personality". Ubisoft's CEO, Yves Guillemot, confirmed that Michel Ancel was currently working on several unannounced projects, as of March 2008.

In a 2008 interview with French video game magazine JVM (for Jeux Vidéo Magazine), Ancel stated that a sequel to Beyond Good & Evil has been in pre-production by a small team for about a year, but they still await Ubisoft's approval before moving into full production.

On December 18, 2008, at the VGL event in Paris, Ancel stated that the game has been under development for a year and a half and that the development team have received total freedom from Ubisoft, giving them the opportunity to make the game how they want.

On August 2009, shortly after GamesCom, Ubisoft officially put Beyond Good & Evil 2 on hold, with the future of the game uncertain.

In January 2010, Geoffrey Sardin, CEO of Ubisoft France, confirmed that Beyond Good & Evil 2 was still in production.

In late May 2010, rumours surfaced from French video game website Wootgaming that Beyond Good & Evil 2 had been cancelled, and Ancel had left Ubisoft to found his own independent studio. Ubisoft soon issued denials of this rumour. However, friend of Ancel and game developer Nicolas Choukron left a comment on an unofficial Michel Ancel Facebook fanpage saying that Ancel had formed a new studio which was a subsidiary of Ubisoft, as the Montpellier team was too large. Choukroun also revealed that Ancel and his new studio were working on a new Rayman game. This rumour has been proven correct, after Ubisoft unveiled a new Rayman project, entitled "Rayman Origins".

The Xowar, also known as the Xovar, is a species of gigantic gorilla-like creature from Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. In all its appearances it has a distinctive tusk protruding from the right side of its lower jaw. It was planned to be the boss of the Clearleaf Forest level, and Rayman would have escaped the battle during a race/chase (viewed from the front), while doing his best to avoid certain obstacles (similar idea of the fight with Foutch in Rayman 2), but its size made it too difficult for the programmers to work with, so it was replaced by Master Kaag.

The Xowar can still be seen at two places in the final version of the game:

*In a secret room found just before the final Reflux fight in the Tower of the Leptys. In this secret room, generally known to players as the 'Xowar Secret', there are three room-sized (and unbreakable) cages, each containing a different scrapped character. One cage holds a tiny jumping blue bird, one holds an in-game model of a Flabar similar to the one in the intro video (except the one in the cage is blue), in the third cage is a Xowar running on a treadmill.

*In the arena of the Master Kaag battle in the Clearleaf Forest, there is a 'Wanted' poster depicting the Xowar. It has been speculated that the Hoodlums want him for his fur for their costumes or as an allie against Rayman.

In the loading screen for the Windows demo version of Rayman 3, a Xowar is partially shown, lining up with various Hoodlums for a police mugshot.

According to an examination of the files on the Rayman 3 disc, a Xowar minigame was once planned for inclusion in the game. The premise of the minigame was that the Xowar is the kindest of creatures, and that it takes pity on Rayman due to the fact that he has no limbs. Convinced of Rayman's suffering, the Xowar chases him in an attempt to kill him and put him out of his supposed misery. The player would presumably have controlled Rayman as he fled from the Xowar. The Xowar minigame's description is similar to that of the scrapped Xowar boss fight in the Clearleaf Forest, making it seem likely that the minigame was a recycled version of the fight. It is not known why the minigame was omitted from the final version of the game; the Xowar was initially removed as a boss because he was too large for the programmers to work with, and the minigame may have been removed for similar technical reasons.
Even if the cows of the two worlds are a bit far and can't interact, they appear to share similar psycological traits. Even if they look sightly different in appearence cows from both worlds are timid and calm animals and can produce milk.
Appearance
Cows in Rayman's world are sightly different from the real world cows. They have a round body, horns, small dot as eyes and an exagerated mouth with four big teeths. Cows appear to be timid animals and some are used by Rabbids for fun, like in the minigame Bunnies Don't Know What To Do With Cows. Every cow that appears in the series has a black and white spotted body making it unclear if this is the only species of cow in Rayman's world.

Rayman Raving Rabbids
The cows make their first appearence in Rayman Raving Rabbids. A cow called Daisy can be seen in the minigame Bunnies Don't Know What To Do With Cows where Rayman has to launch it the most far he can. Some others cow appeared during the minigames Bunnies Don't Milk Cows Part 1 and Part 2 where the player has just to milk them. They appear also in Bunnies Can Only Fly Downwards as obstacles. Cows are resent in Bunnies Can't Slide Part 1 as backgrounds characters and in Bunnies Can't Slide Part 2 as obstacles. In these last two minigames some cows are frozen inside the lake that serves as game field for the players. In the minigame Bunnies Can't Herd they are part of the challenge along with pigs and sheeps. A cow's statues makes a cameo appearence in the Bunny Hunt minigame Bunnies Never Rest In Peace. If the player successfully completes every challenge in the game he will receive a prize called Gold Cow Trophy.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
Even if the events of Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 are set in the Earth the species of cows present is the Rayman's world species. They appear in the minigames Bike Race, Shopping Cart Downhill and Big City Fight. A toy-cow also appears in the minigame Rodeo. In the Plaza a cow can be seen running away from some Rabbids. It is unclear why cows from Rayman's world appear in the Earth. They may have introduced secretly in the Rabbids submarines, or Rabbids may have taken some cows with them for their invasion plain, or it could just be a goof.

Rabbids Go Home
Even if cows from Rayman's world don't make a phisical appearence in Rabbids Go Home there are some toys that represente them in the last part of Wack A Wabbid. The player can't pick up these objects or interact with them in any way.

Rayman Kart
Some cows of this type are seen once again in Rayman Kart in the level Dreamy Forest as background characters. The player can interact with them.

Earth species
{{Character
| status = Background Character

Appearance
There are some species of Cows in the Earth that are really different from the Rayman's world ones and that are similar to the cows in the real world. In Rabbids Go Home every cow appears to be a red and white Holstein [source], though, the trailer shows a common Holstein cattle [source]. In Raving Rabbids Travel In Time the species that are present resembles the common black and white Holstein [source].

Rabbids Go Home
The cows from Earth make various appareances during the events of Rabbids Go Home. They appear in High Stakes Steak, Apocalypse Cow, Cow-tch Me If You Can, Fetchez La Vache, Moo-ning Miami and King Of The Pile and are used by the Rabbids to make a pile to the Moon along with other stuff.

Raving Rabbids Travel In Time
Some other cows appears also in Raving Rabbids Travel In Time.

Trivia
* The only known cow with a name is Daisy as seen in the description of the minigame Bunnies Don't Know What To Do With Cows in Rayman Raving Rabbids.
* Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party is the only game in the Raving Rabbids series for console where cows are not seen.

Count Razoff, last descendant of the royal Shoedsackovskaïa family of maniac hunters, is a boss from Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. He is a tall green reptile (with a similar appearance to the Grub race from The Animated Series) that lives in a mansion in the Bog of Murk. Dressed in a red and gold outfit, he sports a shotgun which shoots arrows at any intruders that dare to enter his mansion. He is a hunter, and throughout the mansion there are statues of all of the animals he has hunted, including Sssssam the Watersnake from Rayman 2.

Biography
Main article: Shoedsackovskaïa family

The in-game information states that Count Razoff is the son of Count Zaroff, and the grandson of Nimrod and Artemis. He also claims to hold the Chair of Cynegenics at the University of Tyr-Kainkou. He has settled in the Bog of Murk, as is his family's tradition, and will return to his homeland only when he has captured an exotic prey.

Count Razoff's Mansion
Razoff's mansion is located in the Bog of Murk. It is very large and classical mansion with many statues inside including a statue of Sssssam, piranhas and a statue of Razoff riding a Goaty (a scrapped character from the game). There are also several bug-like creatures called Uglies which can be found chained-up in his mansion; if Rayman frees the Uglies, they thank him by giving him Red Lums before flying away. Globox was accidentally transported to the basement of Razoff's mansion when he was separated from Rayman in the Teensie Highway. Also in the basement are a large ball and chain which Razoff attempts to kill Rayman with, a magic mirror similar to the one found in Begoniax's house, and a Paluchard, a large plesiosaur-like creature with a hand for a head which Razoff was apparently keeping imprisoned, and who helps Rayman out in the battle by giving him Heavy Metal Fist power-ups and placing him back on the platform when he falls down.

Trivia
* The name of Razoff's father, Count Zaroff, is a reference to the character General Zaroff from Richard Connell's 1924 novel ‘The Most Dangerous Game’. ‘Razoff’ is simply ‘Zaroff’ with the ‘Z’ and the ‘R’ switched. Nimrod, his grandfather, is named after a great biblical hunter. Artemis, his grandmother, is presumably named in reference to the Greek goddess of hunting.
* Razoff has several statues of Sssssam the snake in his mansion, hinting that Razoff has encountered, or at least knows of, the character. Most likely, Razoff has hunted Sssssam at some point. Whether or not he actually killed or captured Sssssam at some point between Rayman 2 and Rayman 3 is unknown; however, it should be noted that Razoff's obligation to capture an exotic prey does not yet seem to be fulfilled by the time of Rayman 3.

Teensies are a race of ancient, diminutive and wise creatures native to the Glade of Dreams. These creatures are frequently encountered in Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Rayman 2: Revolution, and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

Description
Teensies have pale blue-grey skin and are characterized by their faces, which generally appear quite large due to their long, drooping noses, which overlap their hidden mouths. Their noses are marked with elegant spiral patterns which are slightly darker that the rest of their skin, though these markings are only vaguely noticeable until Rayman M. Teensies have little, black, beady eyes and small, mitten-like hands that lack any fingers other than thumbs. They are short compared to most of the Glade's inhabitants; to compensate for this, the Teensies in Rayman M stand, one on top of the other's shoulder.

The Teensies were created by Polokus to oversee the many passages of the world. After the Fairies, they were the second race to be created, and as such are among the most ancient inhabitants of the world. Long before the events of the Rayman games, the Teensies created the Hall of Doors, a magic place where all paths eventually meet. Most, if not all Teensies have the ability to create Magic Spiral Doors; these portals can quickly take a Teensie (or other character, such as Rayman) from one location to one another. The Teensies can harness the power of Yellow Lums collected by Rayman to create Magic Spiral Doors or open sealed doors that lead Rayman to the Sanctuaries.

The many Teensies are collectively ruled by the four Grand Minimus Teensies, who reside deep within the Fairy Council, near the Heart of the World.

The Teensie race is a diverse one, and the personality and dialect of a Teensie widely depends on where it comes from. In general, many Teensies are talkative and fun-loving creatures who have a taste for disco. Many Teensies are very old, absent-minded and forgetful; when the Grand Minimus was locked in a cage with three other Teensies, they eventually forgot which one of them was King, and were forced to rule together to overcome this problem. The older Teensies spend their spare time performing acrobatic dance moves, in order to make the younger, less-experienced Teensies envious.

Female Teensies have yet to make an appearance in any game so far, and so it is unknown how similar they are to their male counterparts. Female Teensies are only subtly alluded to in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, in which some Teensies will grumble about needing to attend to their children or aunts (which have never appeared in any game). Though there exists the possibility that Teensies are hermaphroditic, it is generally regarded that the existence of Teensie females is more likely.

Role in the Game
Rayman 2/Revolution/Rayman DS
see Grand Minimus, Teensie Ambassador, or (for Revolution only) Crowned Teensie

Rayman M
see Grand Minimus

Rayman 3
In Rayman 3, most Teensies have taken the role previously held by Electoons in Rayman and Denys, Ludivs, Greenbottles, etc. in the many versions of Rayman 2. Though a few Teensies such as the Grand Minimus and the Teensie Doctors have a role in the game's plot and are found elsewhere, most Teensies are found by destroying a cage. If Rayman destroys enough cages in a world, his HP Bar will increase its maximum capacity.

Rayman Origins
At least one Teensie will appear in the upcoming prequel game, Rayman Origins. In the game's trailer, which was shown at E3 2010, a Teensie takes a photograph of the player characters, Rayman and Globox. They are standing behind a humorous board which portrays them in a fashion remarkably similar to that of the Photographer in the original Rayman game, suggesting that a Teensie or Teensies will take over the Photographer and the Green Lums' role in immortalising the player's feats – a checkpoint.
*Teensies were originally going to appear in Rayman Raving Rabbids, in which they appeared in some of the early screenshots and in the early trailer. However, after the game was remodeled into a party game, the Teensies were cut from the game.
