Back to Origins is a world of paintings in Rayman Legends which features levels from Rayman Origins. Each level has had various changes made in terms of level design and graphics. Not all levels are included, and the ones which are have had all story elements removed from them. The levels are unlocked through Lucky tickets, though will still need to be played in order in each of the worlds.

Levels are split into 5 worlds, each having the name of a corresponding world from Rayman Origins: Jibberish Jungle, Desert of Dijiridoos, Gourmand Land, Sea of Serendipity, and Mystical Pique. Each world features 8 levels from a pair of similar themed Rayman Origins Worlds. For example, Jibberish Jungle features levels from both Jibberish Jungle and Ticklish Temples. Mystical Pique features levels from Moody Clouds as it does not have a correspondingly themed second world.

There is a pattern to what levels are included: each world features 4 normal levels (2 from each of the two worlds featured), both Moskito riding levels, the second Tricky Treasure level, and the boss level. Levels are not always featured in the same order that they were encountered in Rayman Origins, for example Freaking Flipper is played before Swimming with Stars. The boss featured in Mystical Pique is from the Land of the Livid Dead, given that the Moody Clouds boss stage is omitted.

List of changes
*Some level names have changed slightly.
*Lum Kings, spiky platforms, Skull Teeth, Electoon Cages, the Magician's hats and time trials have been removed.
*Turnips, Teensies (which replace many of the Skull Coin locations), Purple Lum chains and several enemies have been added.
*Enemies no longer bubblize.
*Many textures on objects and enemies have been slightly redesigned.
*A majority of the levels have had their layout tweaked to be easier, most notably the Tricky Treasure and mosquito riding stages.
*The Tricky Treasure no longer has an eye. There's also a Teensie trapped within the treasure now.
*The lightning has been improved.
*The nymphs do not appear at all.
*All enemies now have animations of themselves being tickled that are not able to be viewed without the Murphy Reset glitch on a console with a touchscreen or hacking.
*Some levels have had many foreground objects removed to make them easier to see.
*Some levels have been removed.
*The music no longer changes once the enemies have been defeated in an area with a cage. The only time the cage freed song from Rayman Origins is able to be heard is at the end of Moskito Levels.
Trivia:
* The song used for each world gallery varies, with only Sea of Serendipity using the same song as it did for the world map in Rayman Origins:
** Jibberish Jungle uses a song featured within the levels of the world, bearing little resemblance to the original map song from Rayman Origins.
** Desert of Dijiridoos uses a brand new song based on the music in the world, but not featured in Rayman Origins, making it the only area in Back to Origins to feature new music.
** Gourmand Land uses the in level version of the Rayman Origins map song, which includes extra backing.
** Sea of Serendipity uses the exact song used for the map in Rayman Origins.
** Mystical Pique uses the cage area theme, which bears more resemblance to the Moody Clouds map song. This is likely used as 5 of the featured levels are from Moody Clouds while only 2 are From Mystical Pique.
** The world selection gallery uses the Theme of Rayman Origins as heard in the PS3 menu.
The Dark Creatures Rise is the second level of Olympus Maximus, the fifth world in Rayman Legends. It introduces the Fiery Depths area of Olympus Maximus and the groups of dangerous dark creatures.

Area 1
In a volcanic area filled with bodies of lava, Rayman and the team advance forward. They find angry dark creatures that are hungry to bite the heroes. There's too many to defeat with a punch, so the heroes must run away from them. The first secret area is located behind a fake, dark wall. Devilbobs appear as the heroes continue on. The second secret area can be found by avoiding a different group of dark creatures and using the wall run. After dodging more dark creatures, the team finds a fireworks mushroom near another group. Hitting it will create a light strong enough to kill the dark creatures. Shortly after using the wall run several times, the door leading up to the exit is nearby as well as the second Skull Coin.
</gallery>

Queen Teensie area
The team needs to use their wall run ability to get by the first group of dark creatures. When they land near the cage and Skull Coin, another group of dark creatures is from behind. The wall run needs to be used again to safely reach the cage.
As the gang enters through the door, dark creatures can be seen from above. The players must start running to avoid getting hit by them. More groups will attempt to catch the team. The third Skull Coin is near the second group of dark creatures. The next few groups of dark creatures must be avoided by running on the walls. The fourth Skull Coin is on the left side of the wall. To get to the end of the level, the players must body slam on skeletons bones to fall down to the end.
This level is invaded by enemies from 20,000 Lums Under the Sea. It features lasers, Underwater Toads and mines.

It is unlocked once the original level completed and if the player goes far enough in 20,000 Lums Under the Sea.

This level is the beginning of the temple section from the original level. However, due to the invaders' presence, most of the level is flooded by a green-coloured water in which the player(s) must dive.

The beginning of the level features the deadly lasers from the end of Mansion of the Deep. Like in this level, the players must get between those lasers. The end of the level features underwater mines and currents.
Music
Unlike the other invaded levels from Olympus Maximus, the music played in this level is the slower version of Laser Mayhem. This is the only invasion level with this music, and the only invasion level to have different music to the rest of the invasion levels in a world.

The Mysterious Inflatable Island is the first level of 20,000 Lums Under the Sea, the fourth world in Rayman Legends. This is where Rayman and his friends will swim in the sea while avoiding dangers like Dark Sentries.

Description
Rayman and his team of friends start out on a toy inflatable island floating on the water. They will have to progress by going underwater and using their swimming ability. When they do so, they see the familiar large group of singing fishes. They sing the same tune as from the Sea of Serendipity in Rayman Origins. After going further into the now dark green-coloured sea, the team encounters a Dark Sentry that casts a dangerous light that will turn red and hurt them if they stay still on it for too long. The heroes will see these dangerous mechas more often as they continue to swim deeper and deeper into the sea. James Bond styled music plays during this section of the level. The first secret area can be found by going through a dark but fake foreground wall. Underwater Toads and underwater mines appear as the heroes advance. The first Skull Coin can be found by going through a tight but another fake, dark foreground. The second Skull Coin appears to the end of a different dark foreground. The third Skull Coin can be collected by avoiding a Dark Sentry casting a large light at the bottom of the sea ground. The second secret area is located well above the coin. The exit is nearby, pass a doorway that opens up.
This level is invaded by enemies from 20,000 Lums Under the Sea. Actually, the entire level is under the water, and that could explain why it couldn't feature another enemy than the creatures from the current world. It is as a result the only invasion level to feature enemies from the same world. It features Underwater Toads and homing missiles. Dark Sentries don't appear here.

It is unlocked once the original level finished and if the player(s) gets far enough in the world 20,000 Lums under the Sea.

The level is the original one reversed: it goes from the entrance of the underwater base to the mysterious inflatable island where the original level begins. However, in order to complete it under 40 seconds, some paths disappeared and new ones were created. Currents and geysers are added in order to go faster.
Best Original Score is the second level of the Desert of Dijiridoos, the second world in Rayman Origins. The heroes will use friendly green birds throughout the level to advance, and use small platforms to deactivate blocking electrical shocks. The PlayStation Vita version of Rayman Origins features a Ghost Mode of this level. This level is the first one from this world and ninth overall that is included in the Back to Origins painting in Rayman Legends.
Area 1
As the heroes enter the level, the Magician can be seen to their left; he gives them some information about saving Electoon cages, and popping bubblized enemies to earn more Lums. Now the heroes can move on, jumping on friendly green birds that remain stationary on music sheets. The first Skull Coin can be found by passing a water current, under a bad Red Bird. Afterwards, they will encounter another Red Bird bouncing a platform which makes the friendly green birds appear or disappear. The heroes can defeat the bad bird and use the friendly ones to advance. The rounded bird can be crush attacked in order to reach the second Skull Coin of the level. Eventually, after defeating some Darktoons, the heroes will hear an Electoon crying for help. To reach the secret area, the heroes must perform walljumps and climb to the top, nearby are some some Helmet Birds. Once the Electoons are saved, the heroes can proceed to the exit.
The heroes will need to advance, while avoiding some electrical currents. Afterwards, the heroes have to use a small green bird in order to pass more electrical currents; the bird will release a Skull Coin in a bubble, the third coin of the level. As the heroes approach the exit, there is a bumper notebird that nears it; the heroes can obtain the fourth Skull Coin if they crush attack the bird, then the exit can be found beneath the coin.
The heroes will need to use more friendly birds and advance to where they will encounter several electrical currents. All of the currents can be temporarily deactivated by jumping on a small platform. There is a switch that can make three green birds appear if activated; performing a crush attack on the last one will help the heroes reach the fifth Skull Coin of the level, located next to a spiky bird. The exit can be found ahead, next to a sleeping Red Bird.
Area 4
As the heroes destroy a few Red Birds along the way, more electrical currents will block their path. Using a small platform to deactivate them and taking the higher path will result in them reaching the sixth Skull Coin. The second secret area is not too far away; the heroes need to perform walljumps to ascend in order to reach it. Once the Electoons are saved, the heroes must activate two groups of friendly birds, the others will appear by themselves, as if they were linked to a gendoor. The heroes can reach the exit by using the Swingman.

Original version
The cage can be found at the bottom of the area. The heroes will need to glide in order to safely destroy the Red Birds as they descend. Once they are destroyed, the cage can then be broken.
Area 2
The heroes will need to advance, while avoiding some electrical currents. Afterwards, the heroes have to use a small green bird in order to pass more electrical currents; the bird will release a Skull Coin in a bubble, the third coin of the level. As the heroes approach the exit, there is a bumper notebird that nears it; the heroes can obtain the fourth Skull Coin if they crush attack the bird, then the exit can be found beneath the coin.

Area 3

Secret area 2
The heroes must destroy the sleeping Red Birds in order for it to be possible to break the Electoon cage. Breaking the cage ends the level, then the heroes will pose on a photoboard as the Magician waits to accumulate the total amount of Lums that were collected throughout the level.
