The Lost Island is a location from Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Rayman 2: Revolution, and Rayman DS. It was unnamed in Rayman 2 and Rayman DS, but was given the name "Lost Island" in Revolution. It appears in all versions other than the PS version of Rayman 2, in which it is replaced by Whale Bay. It possibly may not be an island outside of Revolution but rather a mountain range.

Description

The Lost Island is a lonely, hidden island known to almost nobody. Even those who know of it seldom know how to get to the Lost Island, and so require the help of Bzzit, the ferryman who takes people to the Lost Island from the pier near the Minisaurus Plains.

The Lost Island is a small landmass with bare, lifeless mountains surrounded by a calm and quiet beach. The caves inside the Lost Island house pools of water, which in turn have underwater tunnels leading to secret grottoes. Despite the lack of life on the surface, these pools are full of aquatic plant life and coral. The beaches have very little to offer, though crabs and birds sometimes visit the sandy shores and palm trees provide some shade.

If one is quiet, one may hear the bells of a sacred structure hidden deep in the island's mountains. The Lost Island secretly houses the ruins of the Sanctuary of Water and Ice behind an impervious blue wall.

Following Admiral Razorbeard's acquisition of the Glade of Dreams, Robo-Pirates constructed two small forts on the left and right sides of the Sanctuary Wall. Though it may be speculated that these forts were made to guard the sanctuary or to house robot miners trying to access the sanctuary, no game makes any hint at the purpose of the forts.

Very little of the Island is traversed in the games, and so little more is known of the islet.

As a Level

The Lost Island is the first half of the Sanctuary of Water and Ice level. In Rayman 2 and Rayman DS, its connection to the previous level is vague and makes little sense. However, the island itself remains the same in every appearance it makes.

Entering the Sanctuary

Rayman begins his nighttime adventure at a lonely, unoccupied dock. The dock ends at a small beach. As Rayman approaches a trail leading up the side of a mountain, he is attacked by a Blue Robo-Pirate. Rayman does not have to defeat the Robo-Pirate to continue, though most players generally will defeat it. Rayman then enters a cave at the top of the trail and discovers a pool of water near a rope ladder. By diving into the pool and swimming through an underwater tunnel, Rayman encounters a secret grotto holding a cage (again, this is optional). Returning to the cave, Rayman ascends the rope ladder and exits the cave.

Descending a wooden staircase, Rayman arrives at a larger beach. He is ambushed by a Red Robo-Pirate, but easily defeats it. Upon examining the sealed fort right of a large blue wall, Rayman discovers a Keg and blows the fort's door open. Inside, Murfy shows Rayman a Yellow Magic Sphere and explains how to use it. Rayman then carries the sphere to its Yellow Pedestal, grabs another Keg, and investigates the sealed fort left of the blue wall. This fort houses a Blue Magic Sphere, and Rayman brings it to the Blue Pedestal (the order in which the spheres are acquired is optional).

The blue wall rumbles and opens, revealing a small tunnel delving into another mountain. At the other end of the tunnel is the entrance to the Sanctuary of Water and Ice.

Revolution Differences

The First Beach

  • Bzzit and the boat are waiting at the dock
  • Rayman is ambushed by multiple Robo-Pirates
  • The top of the trail is guarded by a Yellow Robo-Pirate

The Cave

The Second Beach

  • There is a second cave near the first cave's exit; some of the level's Yellow Lums are hidden there. The Canopy must be completed to light the cannon necessary to get the Lums.
  • Rayman is ambushed by two Purple Robo-Pirates and one Yellow Robo-Pirate instead of the single Red Robo-Pirate
