An incorrectly-coloured Moskito in the Windows version

When Moskito is first encountered, he chases Rayman with a giant spiky fruit. During the battle, he attacks Rayman by trying to poke him with his nose and uses spiky fruits of various sizes to attack. With precise timing, it is possible to hit him twice per turn, before he flies up and away after the first hit.

In the Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Atari Jaguar versions of the game, Moskito has different colours; instead of being mostly purple with white gloves, and a yellow nose, shoes and stripes, he appears a more reddish purple colour, is a dark purple where he used to be yellow, his wings are red and his gloves are changed to a brighter purple. Another difference is that the berries he uses are different colours instead of all being the same colour. Whilst Rayman is getting chased by Moskito with the giant spiky fruit when he is first encountered, and in the battle against Mr Dark, when the latter transforms into a hybrid of Moskito, Mr Sax and Space Mama, his colours are the same as in the PC version. It is thought that all instances in which Moskito shares Bzzit's colouration are mistakes or problem arising from hardware limitations; Moskito's ‘true’ colour is believed to be purple, not pink. The versions of the game in which Moskito appears to have Bzzit's colours have led to great confusion and debate amongst players regarding the identities of the two mosquitoes.

In Rayman Origins, up to four friendly mosquitoes appear, and can be ridden by the player characters in the game's sidescrolling shooter levels. In this game, they are referred to as 'Moskitoes', but it is not clear which (if any) of them are the original Moskito from the original Rayman.

A carving of Moskito appears on a wooden palisade in English with Rayman.
In 2010, Moskito appeared on a variant cover of one issue of the French retro-gaming magazine Pix'n Love.
