Popolopoïs are a species of butterfly found commonly in the Glade of Dreams. Most of them are yellow, blue or orange.

It is unknown if the Popolopoï have any connection to the Tribelles, another species of butterfly. It is also unknown if there is any connection between the Popolopoïs and the Squabs encountered in Rayman 3.

In Rayman 2 and its remakes, blue and yellow Popolopoïs act merely as background elements and are not mentioned or named. They can be seen in the background of many levels, like the Woods of Light, the Fairy Glade, the Walk of Life, the Menhir Hills or the Walk of Power. Rayman 2's credits give a special thanks to someone called ‘Popolopoy’, providing a likely inspiration for the name given to them in Rayman M. Incidentally, the credits also give special thanks to the ‘T-Trouble Team’.

In Rayman M, the Popolopoïs are given much more prominence than in Rayman 2, as there is an entire racing mode which revolves around them. In Popolopoï Mode, the player must run through the race course while shooting as many Popolopoïs as he can; each Popolopoï struck grants the player extra time, which he will need in order to finish the race. The blue Popolopoïs are common, while the orange ones are rarer and grant more time than the blue ones.

The name Popolopoï originates in the "battle cry" of a madman passing by the Montpellier studio during the development of Rayman 2, which was heard by the team.[1]
