Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
"Hey, wanna hang out?"
"What? I told you I'm into girls."
"Yeah, but, you know. Just hang out. Cool-like, no expectations."
"Uh... why?"
"We'll just have some fun, yeah? Casual hanging out? Here, want a drink/ice cream/peanut butter and jelly sandwhich/a brofist BRUH/button to end all days/picture of my pet tyrannosaur?"
==>"No, I don't think that's a good idea."
Part ways.

I'd be more put off by the peanut butter and 'jelly' sandwiches, than the fact that I was lesbian

American 'jelly' is British 'jam', in case you weren't aware. And while the idea of a combined sandwich isn't the most appealing prospect, I can confirm that peanut butter jelly brownies are a thing divine.
I will just say that Melonlord probably shouldn't tell Ms Doe he's been madly in love with her for years quiiiite yet, though I doubt he was actually considering it. That's a... scary prospect for someone to deal with.

Indeedy, but whether it's jam or jelly, or sandwiches or brownies, the combo seems revolting. Then again, I've always been simplistic with food.

You should expand your tastebuds then
It sounded revolting to me too, doubly so since I loathe peanut butter of all sorts, but trust me - good, heart-destroying stuff.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
What's a "combined sandwich"?
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Two combine-harvesters together, obviously!MrBadGuy wrote:What's a "combined sandwich"?

Good attempt at humour there, Xenon

I'm going to put that here instead of the concerned topic because the ambiance is already shitty enough (and that up to now I have never contributed to anything Rayman related on this forum) but here I go :
All the people who posted recently posted in the topic of Rayman 3 scores should be ashamed of themselves, myself included, Adsolution excluded. From what I can gather, the debate is about one guy who cheated by breaking the game isn't legit to the eye to the pure hardcorZzz who marvel at their own scores, which they obtained by breaking the game through glitches and stuff. And then when somebody tries to open his mouth, everybody fingerpoints at everybody for being offensive to the other, himself, Ubisoft and Charlie Hebdo. I think I can take a share of the blame because I fear I might have started this whole thing but come on, can't we be all nice to each other instead of arguing about which way of breaking a 10-year-old game is legit or not? How about you play Rayman 3 because it's a fun game with lots of humor in it?
I will never the joy that brings people of this topic such happiness/anger.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
It always sounds so easy when you think about it (especially for you it's easy since you are pretty objective and distant). And then, people come together and everything gets fucked up. This argument is not about this guy, it's more than 5 years old and an endless chain of hate with the core problem that no one can remember who started this whole thing and thus no one wants to be the first side to move, the one to stop this vicious circle.
I'm 100% sure that I'm right and the other are wrong and I have good reasons to think that way. But that applies for everyone in that thread, also for the ones who are wrong in my opinion. They think I am talking bullshit and they are right for good reasons. So in the end, everybody is wrong. It's a shame that we couldn't solve these issues after all this time but I also really have no clue anymore who that would be possible. In theory it sounds so simple and easy but in reality it's something completely different.
But yeah, it's a lot more complicated than that. Mirage only opened a little theater of war. Which seems to be enough to bring so much heat/hate into the thread.

Totally right. Every time there is activity in that thread it turns into a disagreement about something, and then proceeds to be just a continuation of age old mud slinging between a few people with pasts. I can be the first to admit that I've made mistakes there, and have said/done things that I regret, but really, it's becoming less and less easy to contribute there even as someone hoping to pick up the game again.
I used to think the best thing I (with others) did, was bring the thread from RZ to this forum, but lately I've been questioning that particular move.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
People generally don't want to be involved in or witness ongoing battles that aren't their own, and for good reason: they aren't your battles. You shouldn't have anything to do with them if you don't want to be involved, and as such, their outcomes and progression should have no effect on you, you'd essentially rather not even know they existed to begin with. The problem is, issues like war are battles that are only held and instigated by an extremely small number of people, but affect us all. The simplest answer would obviously be to stop and be friends, of course, but at the end of the day you realise that as an answer, it doesn't actually answer the topic at hand. Bigger issues arising (take Silent Night as an example) may result in opposing sides temporarily banding together or making peace, but they don't solve pre-existing, smaller issues. What they can do however is help, because through said truce you might be able to gain a better understanding as to who the person you're fighting with is, and you'll suddenly see them as more than an animal you can simply gun down, you'll be more inclined to, and hopefully will want to come to a peaceful resolution that involves understanding and reason.Pirez wrote:can't we be all nice to each other instead of arguing about which way of breaking a 10-year-old game is legit or not? Segway: It's sort of why I don't look down on the notion of people having first-world problems. We all have them, they simply can't be addressed until bigger issues are solved (and the novelty of no longer having to put up with those bigger issues wears off). A spoiled little kid can complain about his parents taking something away from them for the first time in their life, and a grown adult can disagree with the idea of parents taking things away from their kids. They're complaining about the exact same issue, only from different perspectives with different levels of understanding.

Nah, it's really not the thread's fault.Xenon wrote:I used to think the best thing I (with others) did, was bring the thread from RZ to this forum, but lately I've been questioning that particular move.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Concurred, so much has been achieved even since the RZ days. I don't think all the progress that's been made should be overlooked because of the nasty arguments that arise here and there.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Nah, you really didn't start anything or deserve any blame. As Cut said, these issues are ages old. We had a similar, albeit more civilized argument about some of the same issues in 2009 and it's come up again and again since then, more frequently and in a more turbulent manner in the last few months, unfortunately. The problem is that it gets worse and worse every time and we're all tired of it, but, as Cut said, both sides believe that they are right and there are certain positions that both sides are unwilling to move on from. And, honestly, I don't know if we can resolve that, and, I'm sorry that a lot of other guys here are drawn into that, but, sadly, this is probably not the end of it.Pirez wrote: I think I can take a share of the blame because I fear I might have started this whole thing .
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
You're right, and that's certainly true. What worries me though is that this forum is the best possible representation of the Rayman community, and look at the bile it's constantly hosting in that thread. I think people underestimate the damage this kind of fanboyism can inflict on the future scoring community as a whole. But, yeah, beneath that you are right.Adsolution wrote:Concurred, so much has been achieved even since the RZ days. Too bad to hear about things going South in the R3 scores topic. I was going to ask around, but frankly, after refreshing the page a couple of times and reading everyone's replies, I guess it's best to leave this matter for you guys to sort out yourselves.
I wish to one day start trying out scoring a bit in Rayman 3. I hope the thread will accept heartily the questions from a youngling nub Shrooblet spawn.
Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Since this is thread for something bothering others, I want to say what is bothering me now.
Things like this bother me:

In what world are we living in? This is horrible

I'm quite shocked that no one has responded to this yet. This just infuriates me. These extremists are just harming their beliefs. Their actions are not helping their beliefs and have no effect by murdering those journalists and cops. I heard they already caught two of three suspects, I read that one of them offed himself.
It just goes to show, just because you're offended doesn't mean you are right.
I give my condolences to Paris and to Charlie Hebdo.
