I've got a friend who studies photography at a university which specialises in digital media and design... and she doesn't even know what lens she has, or how to change the settings on her DSLR.

You would think if someone studies photography, you'd know the majority of the settings found in most DSLRs. Especially for manual operation to get photos fined tuned to how you want.
