Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
I like the idea of a new forum. But why has it to be InvisionFree? phpBB is much better!
Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
IPB is ok, I don't mind.
Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
Yes, IPB is ok, but IF lacks in much ways..

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
How many posts does this Zelda bord have? And how many posts does the top poster have?
For example, I couldn't have linked PC's forum to its portal if I had used InvisionFree...

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
It has over 15,000 members (search websites included) and over 121,450 posts.
It has to be invisionfree because of various reasons:
IF is its own host (a LOT less hastle)
IF is easy to add/change/delete forum areas (easy creation)
IF is fast (phpbb is slow)
IF's administrator board is extremely easy in instructions (phpbb can be confusing)
IF can allow you to pre-register people (I've never heard of a phpbb board that can do that)
IF is just as mod-able as phpbb
IF can have a word-filter
IF is overall quick and easy to use and it's just as customizable.
I may not customize any more than the skin because I don't know computer lingo enough to mod either type of board.

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
I can easily pre-register people with phpBB, there's a mod for this and anyways I just have to use phpMyAdmin
And it's not that slow... phpBB also has a word-filter (I've never seen such an idiotic function, by the way)... And you say you can mod IF? As you want?
Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
Do it, I remember RaymanQuest. It was successful.. Until like 1 year later then it got unactive.. But no doubt.. This time you will make it for even longer.

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
Yes, Hunchman. If you know enough computer lingo, HTML, etc., you can do what you want - like get a battle system for IF.
IF (to me) is over-all easier to work with. I've never been able to get a phpbb board because of the problems of getting it hosted, started, etc.... but with IF you register the board and start working! Simple as that!
Yeah, RQ was great, but keep in mind that I was only starting out as an admin. I'm experienced now.

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
I didn't know you could mod InvisionFree, it's a good solution then
I'd like to know how you edit files... Can you access them by FTP?

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
Well, from what I have seen, Invisionpower boards on IF can be modded in the CSS and the board layout thingy, th31 has done it before, I don't know about the new IPB though.
but I like phpBB better, its easier then IBP is tons of ways.

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
Sorry, some reason I was logged off.
And addetion to that, to answer you question Hunchman, InvisionFree.com does not allow any FTP access.
and you couldn't even edit the files to the IPB V 1.3 final..

Th31 did it, so why can't anyone else?

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
We just like PhpBB forums better, easier to code in my opinion.

All you need to know is Html, right?

That kind of answer does NOTHING to persuade me.Hoodcom wrote:We just like PhpBB forums better, easier to code in my opinion.
HTML is harder than it looks.
Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
I tried learning CSS, and its tricky....
<html>
<title>
</title>
<head>
<style type="text/css">
<!--
H1 {Font-family: Arial}
-->
</style>
</head>
</html>
=============
Thats all I know for now....

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
phpBB uses "PHP" coding.Ray2master wrote:That kind of answer does NOTHING to persuade me.Hoodcom wrote:We just like PhpBB forums better, easier to code in my opinion.

INVISION POWER BOARDS uses php too, all FORUMS and SITES coded with PHP or HTML or PHP & HTML uses CSS. But Invision power board also gives the ability to use html, with java scripts and ect.
and its not hard to mod phpBB forums... you just need a good web cde editing program (I use BIO constructer) and there is a document that tells your exactly what to edit, replace or remove, you find the line, you simpaly copy and past the new code over the line. SIMPLE!

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
The only problem is that you can do far less things with IPB than with phpBB...

Re: If Volvox and I made a general forum...
Simple for those who know. PHPBB is also slow. The more mods you have, the slower it is.
