Nintendo is scared that children will curse on voice chat :P

Also this might have to do something with Japanese mindset where people don't really like to talk much online (not stereotyping that all Japanese are like that but the fact is that some are).

I don't care much for voice chat, but I can honestly see why is this a problem for rest and I fully support people who protest this decission regarding Splatoon.

I think Nintendo should just update Wii U Chat application and add support for it to be ran in a background while playing any game. That way people will be able to voice chat while playing any game.

Alright, this has to be one of the few times I'll harshly criticize Nintendo... but really? Are you fucking serious Nintendo? Splatoon is a strategic team focused game and you aren't even including voice chat? I like Nintendo but holy shit they are ridiculously behind when it comes to online. Otherwise the game looks fun but god damn, Nintendo you REALLY need to step up your game next gen, for the sake of your own company.
Yeah well... at least Big N does not wager its success through online (unlike Sony and Microsoft). And personnally, I think it's a good thing. Competitive games online quickly become shouting and cursing contests and I fucking hate that.

But why not give people an option? If someone is shouting and cursing and it bothers some, there should be option to mute the players so you can't hear them while others who don't mind can hear him, or have voting system where poeple can vote to kick out immature people. Games like TF2 implemented this good.

But Nintendo considers themselves a toy company, they don't make games for adults, so that's why they don't bother with the option for voice chat.

It's like complaining that a beanie baby doesn't have a pouch to keep your cigarettes in, you can be an adult fan of it, but it's unreasonable to expect them to cater to your age group.

But you can always cut up a beanie baby to make a cigarette pouch.

I have got to agree with Pirez, I personally despise that behaving since it makes me unconfortable. This unfortunately happens a lot so I don't activate comments or sound in compactible games when playing online with strangers.

YES! I have enough coins to buy ONE game from Club Nintendo. A Game Boy game. One Game Boy game worth of 150 coins. Which one should I get? That are fun. That are also either Super Mario Land 1 or 2.

@Brad, lucky you, I wish I can choose some games but EU Club Nintendo limits only codes for digital and those codes are only for Wii and DSi.

Nintendo caters to everyone's age group so not just children, therfore there should be option so that people can decide how they prefer. I despise huge voice chats as well and I sometimes mute them in games such as TF2 if playing alone with bunch of unknown people, but I want to have option to select private voice chat in-game with people I know expecially in games that are like Splatoon. Like I said, best way would be if Nintendo updated Wii U chat app to allow background running and group calls while in-game, that way no strangers and rude people would interfear and people could play without issues.

Actually scratch that, I'm saving up for the Doc Louis' Punch Out!! That one was purely exclusive and could only be redeemed by Premium Members only for a certain year. This the only chance we can still get it.

Are some of you guys REALLY saying it's a good thing Splatoon doesn't have voice chat? Because it really isn't, Nintendo needs to better get with the times and to include such a simple feature shouldn't be hard. I know a lot of you guys don't use voice chat in random games, myself included. But I'm seriously hearing people say "they don't need it". Outright ridiculous.

It's 2015, voice chat is a thing now. If you don't like it then go mute others.

Yet they have no problem publishing titles like Bayonetta 2, I think it's clear Nintendo knows they still have an adult audience. If anything voice chat should at least be included in a friends only game like it was Mario Kart 8 lobbies

I'm with Rayfist here. We should have voice chat and the ability to mute others. It's not everyday you can swear out a kid.

Yes. If Big N is really the master at creating vidyagames, they will find a way to make player communicate with each other without voice chat.

No, you're not with Rayfist *starts hypnotic dance*

But seriously, in these kind of games, you kinda have to go all-in. If you put-in voice chat only to mute it afterwards, you amputate yourself from a big part of the strategy of the game. Whereas if you don't put voice chat at all, no player is disadvantaged by being allergic to the voice of 9-year-old-fucktards who shout like crazy at their controller.

Now you're just coming across a fanboy. I like Nintendo but when I hear from fans they do nothing wrong it bothers the shit out of me.

I have no doubt voice chat won't be a necessity but it shouldn't be hard to add it either. And don't give me that "it's a kids game" excuse Little Big Planet had full voice chat, and that was years ago.

I can assure you that I'm not (that much of) a fanboy. Nice thing you labeling me serves as your counterargument, though.

And actually, the only people I saw play LoL were 20-something colleagues in engineering school and they shat out insults at maximum sound capacity. So, fanboy or not, I stand by what I say.

You're right, I think that was incredibly uncalled for on my part and I apologise. I just get really upset when I see some people not voicing towards Nintendo. Btw the counter arguement was below that statement. I think I was a little abrasive in that statement so I apologize.

As we have seen with Operation rainfall and others, Nintendo DOES listen to fans.

Back to Splatoon though, I think voice chat should be included, at least in a friends only game. It's 2015 and there's no reason for it to not be there.

It's bad enough Nintendo is lacking the third party it needs but not to include voice chat in what could be a fun competitive multiplayer shooter is a little ridiculous.

I'm sorry Pirez, but not to include what could just be an optional 'FEATURE' isn't a bad thing. It isn't going to hinder your experience if you mute it.

I myself am pretty split on whether it's a good thing or not, because while I understand it may come in handy during gameplay, Nintendo would never want to ship out products that had a high chance of being offensive towards younger kids, or offensive towards parents who are concerned about what their children are exposed to. They're buying a Nintendo game about splatting colourful paint on your opponants, the very last thing you would expect is for a Nintendo game like that to have people swearing back and forth while you're playing. Sure, you can mute them, but the point is that kind of behaviour being there at all.

Crysis Wars, my favourite online game of all time, and an extremely tactical/stategic game at that, rarely even had players making use of voice chat, most of the communication was handled through a list of sixteen easily accessible commands, ranging from "capture the war factory", to "need repairs", to "enemy boat spotted", to "yes/no/thanks", and to plethora of others, and it worked flawlessly. Surely Nintendo won't have trouble coming up with such a simple solution, and one that's likely even better.

Whose to say miiverse won't ban those who swear? It's weird since everyone was all for voice chat being included in Mario Kart 8 and Smash, but now Splatoon having it is a bad thing. As for Nintendo itself, could they AT THE VERY least, include voice chat in friends only games? I mean hell, even in Pokemon X and Y I've had random people try to voice chat me. I think voice chat is perfectly fine but at least put some rules on there, such as no excessive swearing

Banning people after they swear is not much better, that's like saying everyone is safe so long as murderers are imprisoned after they murder. They still murdered. Of course, outright removal of a feature is controversial, but less-so when there are other solutions that can work nearly just as well.

Oh.

Anyways, how is that bad? It's been done on miiverse through text?
