Re: Rayman himself
'Epic' isn't the word I'd use, a good chunk of them are just uninspired period. Bland? No. But compared to R1-R3 it's nothing significant.
(Edit: I should say some of the bosses from Legends were pretty fucking awesome, such as the Luchador and the robotic Eel)

Re: Rayman himself
My favourite RL bosses are the Mecha Dragon and Luchador, those were thr most fun for me to beat.

Re: Rayman himself
Forgive me if I don't remember the names, I don't have RL and RO on the back of my head like I do the original trilogy.
I didn't like how RO recycled the bosses too in "mecha" form.
Also how did they manage to screw up making a good final boss in both RO and RL? I think unlocking the final challenging level for 100% (Big Mama) was cool but the final boss fight itself was incredibly boring (I liked the use of having to take advantage of the movement of her arms and stuff to platform your way onto) but still, it just wasn't the finale I was looking for. I see nothing wrong with trying to be 'epic', hell, it seems like the exact opposite of what RO and RL did. And RL's boss fight was also insanely bland... I tried to refrain from spoilers and when I reached the boss I was felt with disappoint, not even a SECOND segment? There are different phases but they are all more or less the same.
Really a missed opportunity for the final bosses. It really seems Rayman is kind of drifting away from storytelling. I've said it before Rayman's story was never complex, but I feel that they're too shy to venture more into it. Both RO and RL I was initially thinking was to give us more 'story' that R2 and R3 delivered. I mean yeah... there's the story of how Rayman got his hair, but that's all we got and that was exclusive to one version. Hell, I'd like to learn more about 'Rayman's wife' whom we've heard nothing about.

Character? What character? Them doing a little dance after getting their ass handed to them?spiraldoor wrote:Which is a very good thing. The older bosses have character. The new ones are uninspiringly "epic", like a Michael Bay film.Bradandez wrote:Yeah, but when I'm fighting a boss in RO/RL at least I'm fighting something that actually looks like a threat. When I'm fighting a boss in R1 and sometimes R2, it feels like I'm beating up something from a kids' book.

Re: Rayman himself
As an aside, Hunch, boomboleros and I were discussing the relics on the French forums, and came to the conclusion that there's no need to consider them canon since they're in a portable game (traditionally considered non-canon). Just to point that out.
Re: Rayman himself
I thought we already considered them non-canon because of that exact reason.PluMGMK wrote:As an aside, Hunch, boomboleros and I were discussing the relics on the French forums, and came to the conclusion that there's no need to consider them canon since they're in a portable game (traditionally considered non-canon). I was thinking more of their imaginative, memorable designs and the engaging ways in which they were integrated into the story.Bradandez wrote:Character? What character? Them doing a little dance after getting their ass handed to them?

Re: Rayman himself
I think the only bosses in Origins that had a memorable design were the mockingbirds, they were a lot of fun to watch. Their screams, too.
Re: Rayman himself
The bosses from RO are integrated into the story as much as R1.spiraldoor wrote:I was thinking more of their imaginative, memorable designs and the engaging ways in which they were integrated into the story.Bradandez wrote:Character? Re: Rayman himself
Were they? We see the dragon chef in the background at one point, but that's nowhere near as fun as being chased by Mr Stone, or the build-up to revealing the origins of the wrong notes. Origins's use of the Magician was frustrating on many design and story levels, which has already been discussed to death here. His mechanical bosses were much less satisfying than Mr Dark's chimeras. Big Mama was just a massive non sequitur. We never get anything as great as the Moskito sequence in Anguish Lagoon.
Re: Rayman himself
Not to mention there's not as much challenge in the RO bosses as in R1 bosses. Once you know how to take care of the Nightmare form of Daisy for example, you defeat it almost by doing nothing and in less than 3 minutes. You can know how to defeat a Rayman 1 boss but it isn't as quick and stopped like RO. It is a true fact.

Re: Rayman himself
I was just talking about this with some friends. That Reflux just. doesn't. die. He's one of my favourite bosses from any of the games, just because of the sheer amount of phases it goes through and how more and more epic it all becomes until finally!... it's quite pathetic. I love that arc. It makes for a real tense and satisfying fight. And all the phases bring something unique with them too; so inspirational.SpyroGuy wrote:Rayman 3 final boss...talk about defeating it being satisfactory...JUST considering the number of phases and overall length, not to mention the epicness one experiences during the first playthrough.Master wrote:Hmm, design-wise, I'd be tempted to concede, but I've found myself more satisfied beating R1's bosses, RO and RL's bosses were visually nice, but I feel that the best bosses were probably in Rayman 3 and Rayman 1 when it comes to satisfaction.
And yeah. Rayman 1's bosses were the hardest in the series for me. When I finally got an idea of what Space Mama's moves were, I had to then somehow get my mechanical skills up to scratch to beat them!
Re: Rayman himself
To gain access to the Moody Clouds, you must defeat them and revert them back to their Dream form. And once you do that, the nymphs have the power to open the Dreamer's Door. So yeah, the bosses were important gameplay-wise. Yeah, we didn't fight the Magician. But you know who else we didn't fight? Mr.Dark. You traverse the entirety of Rayman 1, you got all the cages, and what happens at the end? Mr. Dark taunts you for a bit, sees you get back your fist, conjures some combinations of past bosses, and flees like the coward he is. Yeah, there's that theory of he's actually the combinations, but that's just a theory. Talk about unsatisfying final boss. Oh and don't forget, "YOU DID IT. YOU SAVE THE WORLD-AH!"spiraldoor wrote:Were they? And the Moskito sequence is the greatest thing to happen in the entirety of the Rayman series for you? Not saying you can't have opinions, but I would have guessed something from like Rayman 2 since that one seems the one to have the bold moments.
Oh please. You can say that about any boss in any video game. Once you have the hang of a boss, you can beat them easily.Haruka wrote:Not to mention there's not as much challenge in the RO bosses as in R1 bosses. Did you beat R1?
Re: Rayman himself
In fact, I did. Sadly having younger siblings and letting them borrow your games can lead to some erase data.Haruka wrote:Did you beat R1?

Re: Rayman himself
There are a lot of problems with the use of the Magician's character in Origins, but this is not one of them.Bradandez wrote:Yeah, we didn't fight the Magician. But you know who else we didn't fight? Mr.Dark.
Clearly I never said that, and I do wish you would avoid hyperbole, but yes, the Anguish Lagoon sequence is great. Have you forgotten what it's like to be seven years old, to be taken aback by this powerful new enemy, but to defeat him, become his friend and find yourself thrust right into an entirely new mode of gameplay?Bradandez wrote:And the Moskito sequence is the greatest thing to happen in the entirety of the Rayman series for you?

Re: Rayman himself
It was great too, I loved the Bzzit sequence. The Jaguar version not so much... they tried to make it like a sideways Galaga Space shooter and well, didn't work so great in my opinion. I do wish there actually could've been more Bzzit flying sequences, know what would be cool? A transition from Cave to Skops to Candy Chateau using Bzzit, I would've loved to see that.spiraldoor wrote:yourself thrust right into an entirely new mode of gameplay?
Re: Rayman himself
There is a general agreement between all R1 veteran players that one of the most memorable moments is the Anguish Lagoon sequence. I even drew something 1 or 2 months ago that replicates that moment.
Re: Rayman himself
For you Rayman fans, what is the best appareance/style of Rayman? The childish one from R1, lil' bit more serious in R2, or the $WAG of R3?
