Hang on a minute, you're completely misunderstanding me. I do not dislike using emoticons. I love using them. What I dislike is when they're being misused or when people start depending on them to make their own interpretations. Smileys help in that, of course, but excessive use of them detracts from their value, much like excessively swearing causes the value of swears to diminish significantly.
