Re: Off Topic
I read about some disquieting developments over in Moscow at Christmas, but it seemed like a bit of a sensationalist article, so I didn't know exactly how much to believe of it.

@MrBadGuy
Shame? Are you joking? Putin is the best thing that ever happened to Russia recently, after Yeltsin ruined country during 90's. Putin will rebuild the Russia and restore its former glory. Putin helped people in Crimea that were suffering under Ukraine's Fascist government when legal government was overthrown there.
Many US and UK sources try to make Putin look like bad person but don't fall for their lies. Read some Russian sources and see the history there better and you will see who is the real bad guy.
Before anyone thinks I have something agaisnt EU countries and US, no I don't, I just have problem with governments in EU and American government because of my personal reasons I would rather not disclose. I like EU countries and US also looks nice and I wish there was no war and issues but I just want others to know that Putin is not the one to blame since nothing that he did was illegal. If Putin was really bad guy, he would have conquered whole Ukraine by now and take it under Russian control.

Silencing free media, shutting down government-independent news stations, asserting indoctrination of state interests into the public mind, people fleeing from Moscow with stories of 'Soviet atmosphere returning'.Jewish Candy wrote:Hmm? What was it about?
Re: Off Topic
@ OCG I honestly can't tell if that was satire or not, but I only skimmed it.

Re: Off Topic
@OCG: As someone with family in Russia... ehem, Putin is a pretty nasty piece of work. The US and UK are indeed full of shit, but that doesn't excuse Putin's behaviour. I don't know how sensationalised Shroob's article was, but what he's described sounds pretty par for the course (dunno about people fleeing, though it wouldn't surprise me). And your view of 'bad guy' is incredibly simplistic and relies on him being a total idiot, which he isn't.
Re: Off Topic
@MrBadGuy
I am dead serious, it wasn't a satire at all. I am just tired of reading hate directed towards Putin. Western brainwashing media propaganda makes me sick. I am glad that I read comments on YouTube by Americans and Europeans that do like Putin though because it gives me hope that not all people just follow local media and actually do research from Russian media and others.
@Candish
I have Russian friends and they are big Putin supporters so I guess it depends from person to person but it is a fact that more than 80% of Russia supports him.
Name me things you think Putin did bad. Remember, I am not attacking anyone here who dislikes Putin I just want to have discussion about it.

While I'd like to have that discussion, right now is not the best time. Maybe in a month.

Re: Off Topic
Why doesn't he just roll into Ukraine and seize it? Because he's not a moron. That would incite a full-blown treaty-bound world war if he's not careful. And that, no matter what agenda you have, is not something you want... unless you're a mad man.
Re: Off Topic
@OCG Well I can promise you that I rarely read the news, and when I do I'm certainly capable of filtering out any opinions or spin by the writer. I judge him on his actions. Putin is a dictator, and all he seems to care about is acquiring more power. That's a bad person in my book.
Re: Off Topic
I was in the middle of writing a long-ish post but then deleted everything as I've realised I don't want to discuss it either. One thing OCG might have a point on is UK and US media brainwashing, particularly from the tabloids, but then again I wouldn't be the first to hold up Russia's own questionable media tactics...

Re: Off Topic
Aye, our countries have a LOT to answer for that our media glosses over/ignores/glorifies, and not just with the tabloids. That can't excuse the media in other countries though.
Re: Off Topic
I am not talking about opinions by the writer but flatout lies western media reports in general.MrBadGuy wrote:@OCG Well I can promise you that I rarely read the news, and when I do I'm certainly capable of filtering out any opinions or spin by the writer. Putin might want power but then again, every leader wants. Unlike other leaders however, Putin helped people in Crimea that were suffering and that was perfectly legal because there was referendum. USA started war against Russia on indirect way by helping overthrow of Viktor Yanukovych in Ukraine and securing that Petro Poroshenko is new president - one of the worst dictators ever who is an open facist. Every normal person would not let something like that happens and ignore it. Russia had to answer. Afterwards, US medias started their propaganda to make Putin look bad.
Annexion of Crimea brought people there peace and they choosed to be with Russia. It is incredibly ironic that USA doesn't recognise Crimea as Russian but it was done on democratic way - something US seems to try and make like they are all about.
The whole situation with Novorossiya is also weird. Back when Kosovo declared independence, US and major EU countries except for 5 of them recognise it but they don't want to recognise Novorossiya which makes more sense than Kosovo to be recognised when you look at the history of both. There shouldn't be double standards and if Kosovo is recognised, Novorossiya deserves to be recognised too. Poroshenko is fully one to blame for Donbass War.
