Re: General Pokémon Thread
Hmm, I've always been in two minds about these sort of things. On the one hand, it can be very tricky to obtain some Pokes, I know Arceus from Gen IV was a distribution only Poke for instance, and his Hall of Origin was never made accessible. However, on the other hand, I do feel that this kinda contravenes the point of Pokemon, to battle and trade.
Re: General Pokémon Thread
As long those Pokémon are not used for competitive battling and only for clearing the Déx quicker I don't see a lot of harm in this.
It is pointless for me right now since in X I am waiting for the official release of Hoopa and Volcanion and in AS I need to evolve 10 Pokémon and to equally wait for Hoopa and Volcanion to have both games fully complete.

Sorry Master, can't hear you over the sound of my new lovely (and totally legit) shiney Umbreon.Master wrote:I do feel that this kinda contravenes the point of Pokemon, to battle and trade.
Re: General Pokémon Thread
Does any of you owns a Sun Stone and/or a Dubious Disc for trade? I can trade back other evolutionary item since I have spare ones that I do not need.
It only misses 2 Pokémon to fully have my Pokédex done for now and wait only for Hoopa and Volcanion's official release!

I've never been that good at smash bros haha, that's the one where you try and force people off the screen right?? I never knew that did that on 3DS!

Re: General Pokémon Thread
Yeah, the 3DS has a version of Smash, the first portable version of Smash in fact.
But yeah, there's plenty of other games on the 3DS you could have fun with, I'd be happy to play some MK7 if I ever got one.

And don't forget Ocarina of time & animal crossing!
Gah this is tempting me..
It's just that I don't want to play through these games once, and then that's it...

You don't have to just have single-player titles, that's the fun part, there's plenty of titles with online features that you can play with fellow folk.

That's true, I've never done online play before (apart from at a friend's house) - I'm looking forward too that when I get a PS3!!

Re: General Pokémon Thread
So what's with this new Pokemon shuffle game? It honestly looks very meh, filled to the brim with microtransactions, no thanks. I take it's Nintendo alternative to Candy Crush.
I look forward to Pokken though- and not because it's a Tekken clone, but the fact that it's actually taking on a genre that fits it really well and doing something different in a good way.

Re: General Pokémon Thread
mmm, I've been wanting to ask some advice about IV breeding.
Could anyone, perhaps, explain the basics?
I've got a destiny knot, which I believe makes sure the egg's nature is the same as the pokémon holding it.
But on the other hand I'm not really sure which Nature is profitable.
I might be asking a whole lot at once, but I really want to get on board the IV train

Re: General Pokémon Thread
The Destiny Knot actually makes random 5IVs from the parents to pass down to the baby. If you want to transfer down the nature that a parent owns, you need to give him an Everstone.

Basically IVs are additional stats which act like genetics of sort, in other words they're breeded from pokemon to pokemon. The max amount of IVs you can get on a single stat is 31, so naturally you want 31 IVs in all the stats that are useful (Most go for 5, missing out on the stat which the nature will decrease but we'll get there soon).
As well as that destiny knot which as Haruka explained passes down 5 IVs from the parents you'll need these power items : http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/ ... cing_items These cost 16 BP each and will gurantee that the stat it enhances will be passed on to the child. There's also the Everstone which again as explained by Haruka is the one which gurantees the nature will be passed down.
The basic idea to the breeding process is :
1. Take two parents with IVs
2. Give the parent with the most IVs the destiny knot and the other a power item relevant to the IVs it has
3. Wait to get a child to get a good amount of IVs
4. Find or re-use another parent to get the IVs the child is missing and repeat until you get the IVs you want
Of course there is the matter of natures; you can essentially start passing those whenever but I would recommend waiting for the perfect IV one before you start finding natures (which are random unless you so happen to get a parent with it). You may also want to consider getting egg moves, this I would recommend getting out of the way right from the start since they're such a hassle.
As to how to know which ones to get? Honestly I would say go onto smogon or serebii to see what kind of movesets they give for each pokemon, as it gives a good idea on how you can possibly train your pokemon. Lastly the best way to get the hang of it is simply to try and do it, if you're still somewhat confused by this explanation.
