Re: Rayman Legends
Remember when Rayman games had a timeline? well... for some reason I just... stopped caring about it. Don't take me wrong, the stories between 1-2-3 are great, but to be honest, they don't tie together that well...
In fact, most Rayman games are tied together just because of the cameos and minor references to previous games.
I'm fine with that, I guess... I like to have wacky adventures with Rayman, Globox and the Teensies, exploring surreal and magical lands without caring too much about the plot. When I started playing Rayman games (in order, from 1 to 3), I enjoyed it, but I started feeling that the franchise was slowly becoming some sort of Deviantart fanfiction... trying real hard to be dark and edgy. I'm glad that it took a break from that direction and went back to the colorful madness.

However, someone at Ubisoft should figure out how to make a decent Rayman ending. For fuck's sake, most of them are abysmal and give an awful empty feeling. I'm looking at you, Legends!

Re: Rayman Legends
Rayman never had much continuity to begin with.

Re: Rayman Legends
Indeed. This is the Rayman timeline:
-Mr Dark steals the great Protoon
-Robo-Pirates attack the Glade
-Hoodlums
-Rabbids
-Bubble Dreamer has nightmares
-The Dark Teensies invade the Glade
What ties those together? a few cameos, I guess. So far, I've only seen continuity between Rayman 1, Origins and Legends.

Re: Rayman Legends
I suppose that's because Origins was based of Rayman 1 and Legends is the direct sequel to origins
Re: Rayman Legends
As I said. There's some, just not as much. Like Imco states, Rayman 1 has some links with Origins and Legends has links to Origins because it's a direct sequel.sergiomonty wrote:Indeed. This is the Rayman timeline:

If you count Rabbids in timeline, you might as well count Mr Dark stealing Book of Knowledge and all other events from different spin-offs.sergiomonty wrote:Indeed. This is the Rayman timeline:

Re: Rayman Legends
The devs actually acknowledge the Rabbids, mate.OldClassicGamer wrote:If you count Rabbids in timeline, you might as well count Mr Dark stealing Book of Knowledge and all other events from different spin-offs.sergiomonty wrote:Indeed. This is the Rayman timeline:

Re: Rayman Legends
No shit lol. They use Rabbids a lot.
I never said that devs pretend Rabbids no longer exist. I am well aware Rabbids have a lot of media.

Re: Rayman Legends
I like to think of the GBA version of Rabbids as canon instead of the console versions, but that's just me :p The console version and it's sequel make zero sense in terms of story.

Re: Rayman Legends
This is my personal timeline. Feel free to voice any disagreements.
*Rayman
*Brain Games (debatable on the myriad of others, but definitely this one)
*TV Series
*Rayman 2: The Great Escape
*Bowling, Golf & Garden
*Rayman 3 GBA
*Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
*Hoodlum's Revenge
*RRR1 and 2 (this is also debatable, but definitely not TV Party)
*Rabbids GBA
*Origins/Jungle Run
*Slap, Flap and Go
*Legends/Fiesta Run
I want to find ways to include Rayman GBC and Rayman 2 Forever, but couldn't find a place for them.

Re: Rayman Legends
As much as I love the GBA games I somehow doubt they play an important role in the timeline.
While yeah, Hoodlums Revenge continued off the cliffhanger in R3, should have been made for consoles, maybe serving as a "Rayman 3.5" of the sort. And it's by far my least favorite Rayman portable game, the controls are super wonky, some of the colors in the levels really hurt my eyes, etc.

Re: Rayman Legends
Yeah, but what you're saying is that Rabbids ain't canon. They happened they just happened to be separated. And they could have returned in Legends, they devs certainly considered it until they ultimately got scrapped.OldClassicGamer wrote:No shit lol. They use Rabbids a lot.

Re: Rayman Legends
Rayman 3 was just trying to be more cool than previous games. Imo, they handled it a millions times better than Sega did with Sonic, which makes the character almost impossible to be anything but cringy and irritating for anyone who's older than 13. In some ways I get a kick out of Rayman 3's approach, especially since it's desire to be cool doesn't feel like it's being pushed down your throat, and actually has plenty moments where it still places the focus on the Glade being a magical place.sergiomonty wrote:I'm fine with that, I guess... But I agree that the Origins approach was a good one, even if my personal idea of a Rayman game would probably be more on par with Ad's RotD game. I instantly liked it when it came around, and I still do, but to once more repeat the ancient complaint, it would be better with some personality.

Re: Rayman Legends
"Cool" isn't the word I'd use. Moreso "Laid back" (That's 2 words but whatever). I never got the impression R3 was trying to be more hip, just moreso trying to be humorous and kind of show us a more lighthearted side to the franchise.
Re: Rayman Legends
Hm, you're probably right, though Rayman 2 already feels lighthearted to me, just not in a silly way.

Re: Rayman Legends
Well yeah, you get what I mean. R2 had a bit of darkness to it while still being lighthearted so I could've used better term for that really.
Re: Rayman Legends
Yeah yeah, I see where you're coming from, I don't know why I said that. Rayman 2 definitely places more emphasis on the whole "rayman there's a serious threat and if you dont get rid of it we'll never be happy again" than 3 does.
