I don't speak French my mom made me learn Spanish cuze she said it would be more useful in this town
Re: Rayman Legends
I don't know if this has been pointed out earlier, but has anyone else noticed how similar Nintendo's new Donkey Kong Country series is similar to Rayman Legends/Origins? The new Donkey Kong country has got the same kind of collectibles (The bananas act like lums), there are these pouches you can punch and they spit out bananas, Donkey Kong's attacks are very similar to Rayman's, the swimming mechanics are almost identical and there are also hidden areas behind foreground tiles like in RO/RL.
Maybe Nintendo used some of the ideas from the new Rayman games because they were so popular and successful platformers?

Re: Rayman Legends
I dunno, considering that Donkey Kong Country Returns comes from Retro Studios, who did a fine job of making the Metroid Prime Trilogy, an experience that I've never seen replicated, I'd be more inclined to think of their similarities as coincidental rather than nabbed. But I've never played the Returns series meself, so I couldn't make a valid conclusion.

Re: Rayman Legends
DKC and Rayman are both 2D Action Platformers, which aren't exactly common, so it's not surprising that they have a lot of similarities. I wouldn't be surprised if DKCR was inspired by Rayman though.
EDIT: Other way around actually since DKCR was before Origins.

Re: Rayman Legends
Even in the second game, Tropical Freeze kind of has the same world themes as Rayman Legends to an extent.
Legends starts with a grass themed world and Tropical Freeze begins with a beach shore world, not at all the same, but it does deal with the same earth themes.
Legends goes on with a beanstalk that leads to the sky, a fiery fiesta, an underwater base, and ends on top of a mountain.
Tropical Freeze goes on with an autumn mountain that leads into the skies, has an African savannah that has some firey elements, an underwater adventure, and also ends on top of a mountain.
I know I'm stretching this but I can't help but notice it.
Both the Rayman UbiArt games and the Retro DKC are some of my favorite games of all time. They're both visually pleasing, have fantastic musical scores, and have great gameplay! I love all four of them!

Re: Rayman Legends
To be fair, Jungle levels, Sky levels and Water levels are in almost every platforming game, but I get what you mean.
Rayman always differentiates itself with it's literally fantastic worlds. Band Land, Picture City, Candy Chateau, Bog of Murk, Desert of the Knaaren, Land of the Livid Dead, The Longest Shortcut, Gourmand Land, Mystical Pique, The Toad Story area (Which might be a post-Legends Bog of Murk), Fiesta of the Dead, etc. Worlds that define creativity that you won't find in other games.
Origins' Gourmand Land is my favorite though, it's really diverse and creative. A giant kitchen ran by dragons in the middle of an arctic wonderland full of large fruits and ice castles? Only in Rayman.

Re: Rayman Legends
I guess you guys are right. I really don't think that Nintendo would have just taken the elements straight from the Rayman games, and since RO/RL was a very popular action platformer in a "long" time, it may have kinda added something to the basic definition of a platformer.

Re: Rayman Legends
Hmm, 1994, right? Meanwhile, Rayman 1 released just under a year later in 1995. Not entirely sure how development was in those times, but I'd think they're a bit too close together for either to properly influence the other.

Re: Rayman Legends
Wait, so you're referring to Donkey Kong Country Returns, with Rayman Legends? What of Origins?
Re: Rayman Legends
Wasn't Rayman Origins released before DKCreturns?
Re: Rayman Legends
Origins: Released on November 2011
Returns: Released on November 2010

Hm, indeed. I didn't know that.Bradandez wrote:Origins: Released on November 2011

Re: Rayman Legends
One thing I don't like about the recent DKC games is how many 'one chance' sections there are, where you come across a very fast area of the game and if you don't understand and execute it perfectly, you will hit a checkpoint immediately after missing it and have to restart the level.
It's cheap is what it is. I can't recall any times Rayman did that.

Re: Rayman Legends
All games do that. Rayman does that as much as Donkey Kong Country, especially in Origins.

Rayman 1 was cheaper in many other ways, though.darkhairwarrior wrote:One thing I don't like about the recent DKC games is how many 'one chance' sections there are, where you come across a very fast area of the game and if you don't understand and execute it perfectly, you will hit a checkpoint immediately after missing it and have to restart the level.

Re: Rayman Legends
And don't forget the original Donkey Kong country. It also had those "cheap" parts.
