Re: Games you consider overrated
So, do you legitimately think Rayman 2 is overrated or are you just trying to rustle some jimmies here
? Outside of this forum you hardly even here R2 mentioned for platformers.
Though of course I and many others here wouldn't treat is a real entry in the series, lol.
In terms of party games I quite enjoyed it, though afterwards the series got progressively worse.Harpic fraîcheur wrote:Rayman Raving Rabbids

No, I'm serious. I think Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie are way better platformers than Rayman 2, especially when comparing them in the N64 era.Rayfist wrote:So, do you legitimately think Rayman 2 is overrated or are you just trying to rustle some jimmies here? Banjo feels like what Super Mario Sunshine probably does to someone who didn't grow up with it. I've really tried to see what makes the game so special and every time people just refer to nostalgia. Banjo's certainly a good game, but I fail to see how it's anything special. Especially if you don't like Rayman 2 because you don't think it's challenging, I don't see how you could prefer a game that doesn't even seem to attempt challenge at all. The only people I could imagine having even the slightest bit of a struggle getting through it are young kids.

This is what you think is overrated, not what you like better. Tell me how many people you've seen brag about R2 outside of the forums.Bradandez wrote: I think Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie are way better platformers than Rayman 2, especially when comparing them in the N64 era.

Re: Games you consider overrated
Literally stopped caring for it after the first title. Though I do respect the creator, FNAF is a very bare bones game that is literally jump scares and nothing more. Go ahead and share this with the massive FNAF fanbase and watch the tears drop. It's not a good game, it's the type of thing you'd play just for a laugh or two and then leave it to collect dust in your steam library. Go play Night Trap instead, same gameplay, and it's actually humorous and funny.
I have it on STEAM and I'm legitimately trying my hardest not to get bored by it. I played for a good few minutes up until I reached the cave and just wanted to sleep.PiekarsPL wrote:Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls games vastly rely on exploration, and the main storylines are rarely hooking. However I see them as great RPGs because one can really play it the way they want to. In the end nothing is mandatory, you can completely ignore any quest... I've spent more than 100 hours on Skyrim, probably more than 300 hours on Oblivion, and a very important part of this time was spent doing almost nothing, wandering, looking for secrets... and I greatly enjoyed it ! The fact that I can do whatever I want in whichever order I want, without any kind of restriction, is probably what makes me love these games.

I'm with Dessy, I've racked up 90 hours just playing the PC version of Skyrim, using a save I started when I owned it on PS3. The freedom and ability to look around, discover, and just come across things is something that I really enjoy, I don't even remember how long ago it was since I beat the main quest, and yet I still was playing.

Re: Games you consider overrated
I'll give it another shot, but without mods the whole overall style of the game doesn't sit too right with me. I've played a lot of enjoyable games with this rather "grim" style, but something about Skyrim for me... all the villages look a bit the same-ish to me. I feel like I haven't thoroughly sat down to take the time to enjoy it. I also love games with a lot of exploration, that's a huge plus, I have a lot of those type of games that encourage exploration, Just Cause 2, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider (reboot), and many others. It's just something about Skyrim.... I guess it's not right for me to judge right now considering I've played a very short amount. I'll possibly get back to it after finishing Far Cry 3.

Oh my gosh.Rayfist wrote:Go play Night Trap instead, same gameplay, and it's actually humorous and funny.
In defense of FNAF, though, I find the core concept a little bit clever. Mostly in regards of what we're used to in the horror genre: survival, first-person view, with a lot of running, exploring, shooting… FNAF succeed to create something that is quite unbelievable: an horror management game! Where you just look at static pictures, and decides what room to look next, and when to close one of two doors. And it creates fear only with a heavy mood, and creepy enemies that never move and just look at you…
That, plus the back story delivered only by cryptic messages, clues, and backgrounds. That kind of narration is cool!
… Then it ruins everything with free jump scares. >< All the fear gets replaced by the tension created by this lame mechanic. It makes the game more painful than it should be (thus, artificially harder), and is almost only there to get funny reactions on Youtube. This detail has a so huge impact on the global game that it changes a clever concept into a dull experience.
As someone easily afraid, there's a lot of horror games that looks interesting, but that I've actually never played because I would have to much difficulties getting through them (hello, Silent Hill!). Though, there are some that I plan to play one day, because they deserve that I have some unpleasant experiences to enjoy their qualities (hello, Silent Hill!). Five Night at Freddy is unfortunately not one of them. Although I would love to experience its good ideas, those stupid jump scares are an eliminatory criterion.

Re: Games you consider overrated
Five Nights at Freddy's is straying quite a bit from it's original concept so they can add more it looks like. I mean, I get they're trying to still stay with that jump scare concept, but there is just too much now. Heck, the third one isn't even in a restaurant anymore. Not to mention they're spending so much time trying to work on a back/side story instead of the actual game. (It's not so much of the second one that takes stuff too far. I'm mostly talking about their most recent release.)
I might get bashed for this, but I can't tell you how tired I am hearing people talk about League of Legends and World of Warcraft.

Re: Games you consider overrated
League of Legends looks like an alright game to me, it's just the community that turns me off.
But the management isn't very complex either. It's not a terrible idea, but much like the horror elements, the success wears off after a while and it just grows stale. That's where a game like PT is much more successful: In the 35 or so minutes it takes to beat the game, it manages to squeeze in more mind games, unexpected twists and different forms of horror than FNAF did over the span of three games. Sure, the concept is okay, but FNAF's concept never surprises, every level is just a predictable increase in difficulty while doing the same thing.Itooh wrote:In defense of FNAF, though, I find the core concept a little bit clever. But again, PT does that so much better, and again, so much more in a demo, as opposed to a game trilogy. PT drags me in because there's endless detail, and every time you go through it you'll discover something you overlooked last time, with the craziest attempts people have made proving to actually be successful and reveal more. Meanwhile, FNAF has...flickering text and some very obviously laid out details to inspire more theory videos. It's not that bad and I won't consider it anything really worth criticising the games for, but it just feels so silly when other games have done this massively better and everyone's busy hailing a game for coming up with a decently creepy story.Itooh wrote:That, plus the back story delivered only by cryptic messages, clues, and backgrounds. I've grown kinda immune to them. Like I said, originally they were pretty awesome, I loved the whole thing with the fox bot speeding by on the cams, but after seeing it so often It's just become a bit of an ordinary sight.Itooh wrote:Although I would love to experience its good ideas, those stupid jump scares are an eliminatory criterion.

Re: Games you consider overrated
The Bioshock Series. Mostly Infinite I guess, since its the most talked about. The games have a great plot which is what kept me playing them. Learning about the background and personalities of all the characters is super interesting. Visuals and designs are amazing, especially Columbia. However, I felt the actual gameplay was really dull and repetitive. It's pretty much just an average shooter to me and doesn't really provide anything new. Combat is really boring and dying doesn't have much of a consequence at all. Playing through the game felt like a chore and the only thing motivating me was really the plot as well as a few of the epic scenes. I don't hate the series, it has its good points but I don't think I'd play any of them again.

Isen, the Bioshock series are AAA games, they're not the kind of game you'd expect to bring innovation, especially in a genre such as shooters.

I have to agree. I usually found most of those online games as overrated in the first place; but this comes from the amount of content that comes from the fans of it that make me think that.Keane wrote:League of Legends looks like an alright game to me, it's just the community that turns me off.
