Re: The You Game!
< really, really dislikes Adventure Time and < doesn't care for Steven Universe. They are really unappealing for <. < dislikes both of their art styles (mostly AT, it's so simple) and they cease to entertain <. And < feels like they really do shoe-horn some tumblrism in there a bit. They don't have the interesting aspects of Gravity Falls which are 22 minute episodes, good writing and jokes, really nice art style, and it's a bit more of a risk taker. Seriously, the show has had many past the radar moments and even showed blood pouring from taxidermy heads for Christ's sake! Oh, and one mini-series that is equally great to Gravity Falls is Over the Garden Wall. < loves that cartoon a lot! Shame it was just a mini-series.
< also enjoys Wander Over Yonder a lot. If you guys are looky for a wacky, nonsensical, and just all out fun cartoon, < says to give it a try! It feels like a cartoon from classic Cartoon Network. And that's because it's from the same guy who created Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

< doesn't really get what you mean by 'tumblr ridden', though < also hardly knows what tumblr is so < can't really argue against that...Rayfist wrote:< doesn't understand shows like Steven Universe and Adventure Time, they really feel very tumblr 'ridden' to me. (They literally reference overused memes various times through out the show) I'm just out of style with these cartoons I guess, but < legitimately couldn't comprehend what the fuck was going on in SU, and even when looking things up the show just feels very mediocre.
Though < can't remember any references to memes in either shows, especially SU. It's pretty simple really, just some kid and his adventures with some aliens. Obviously there's a lot that there's no explination for, but it would suck if everything was explained straight away. Though it's simple, there's a lot of deep charcter development, and we slowly learn more about what's going on. Same for AT, adventures in a fantasy world, but the character (and even the world's) development is much more deep.
As for appealing to both adult and child audiences, < thinks AT does that really well to be honest.
< doesn't really get the appeal of GF though, it's like adventure time but much more mediocre. Most things happen in single episodes and then are forgotten about or not mentioned, whereas things like AT have loads of overarching plots and deep characters. The only overarching plots of GF < can think of are (spoilers) [Gideon's, Stan's and Bill's]. Otherwise GF just kind of reminds < of Scooby Doo.
Anyway, < still watches it, it's still entertaining. < finds SU much more entertaining though and it's got a very original art style, and definately more relatable, there are all kinds of references but most are incredibly subtle and are only noticable if you know what the references are from.
Also, Brad, < can't understand how you hate the art style of SU and AT and love GF's... GF's artstyle was the most unappealing thing to < at first because of it's unoriginality, but that's beside the point. The point is that GF's art style isn't far off SU's, but the colours are much less vivid and the scenry is less interesting, unlike AT's incredibly unique scenery. But whatever, that's solely based on <'s opinion so it doesn't really count as an argument.
Re: The You Game!
Oh boy, you just got two reactions in two different types of forms. Mister Bradandez don't take kindly to bull-honkey. Especially when it deals with <'s favorite show.
Guess what! Gravity Falls is both appealing to kids and adults! Wow, it's like all cartoons are meant for any audience as long as its entertaining! Golly gee! Anything can be simplified. Gravity Falls is about two twins who go to a town with a mysterious presence to it. Gravity Falls a lot of character development in basically every episode! Though shining examples are in episodes such as; Carpet Diem, Dreamscapers, Into the Bunker to name a few. Gravity Falls may be set in the real world, but it does have the supernatural side to which makes it fun. And not to mention, all the characters keep in character through-out the series. Princess Bubblegum is becoming a real pain in the ass.Ambidextroid wrote: Though < can't remember any references to memes in either shows, especially SU. Are you kidding <? Are you fucking kidding <? Gravity Falls has the most consistency of any show. It even does it right off the bat with Episode Two. They reference past episodes constantly. < is pretty sure you're not really paying attention to the show. Gravity Falls had its plot written before hand, unlike Adventure Time. Adventure Time always rewrites itself. What happen to Jake's Puppies? Yeah, they grew up and left. What happen to Finn losing his arm? It was hinted it at the very beginning of the show, he finally lost it, and it grew back! What a dick slap to the face. Gravity Falls keeps things consistent and it shows. And you're forgetting the many other sub-plots of Gravity Falls which I won't spoil here.Ambidextroid wrote:< doesn't really get the appeal of GF though, it's like adventure time but much more mediocre. And fucking puh-lease... Gravity Falls is basically made up of conspiracies.

Re: The You Game!
Well for the first part of your post, < said nothing about GF not being for adults, < was just responding to something Rayfist said. The rest of it was just pointing out the good parts of GF that < never denied and infact enjoys. And the character development is minor at best, we don't even know much about Dipper other than his love life. So the whole post had little to do with the quote.
And for the second part, < never said GF is inconsistent, it's damn consistent alright. Sure, they reference earlier characters with cameos and such, but they don't build on them. A lot of side characters never get a second light. And AT definitely has planned writing, the intro has a post apocalyptic nuclear scene, only truly built on far later in the show with a lot fitting together. Sure, it can be inconsistent, but they actually delve deep into many character's past instead of them being one offs. And I didn't forget the sub-plots, but AT has way more, and they're so much deeper, take Marceline/Ice King's for example.
< doesn't even like AT that much, it's just a good example.
So your post didn't really have that much to do with what < said at all.
By the way, if < doesn't make sense or is just being dumb, sorry. < is in a huge rush and isn't having the best day.

Re: The You Game!
Fully agrees with ^. < was joking a bit on the meme thing (there was one moment in SU referencing Sanic though, so there) but it's like ^ said it's the overly simplistic style that really bothers < with shows like Steven Universe and Adventure Time, there's no style or substance to it to me quite honestly. This is becoming a trend amongst many modern cartoons I've noticed is this really simplistic style. < can't judge Gravity Falls as < never watched it.Bradandez wrote:< really, really dislikes Adventure Time and < doesn't care for Steven Universe. Both SU and AT have this just overly cute and colorful style that many other modern cartoons use. It kind of hurts my eyes after some time, it really doesn't change it up much from that. From what < has gathered, SU definitely caters to the tumblr crowd a lot with many references, jokes, and the plot itself is VERY fanfiction-ish < just thinks the character design is very bland to be fully honest, even after reading a plot summary on wikipedia and watching one or two episodes < really doesn't see the appeal. < isn't saying they're awful shows it's just reasons why < doesn't like a lot of modern cartoons. I think Regular Show also has this problem, it doesn't have the cuteness to it but it has a really overly simplistic style.Ambidextroid wrote:< doesn't really get what you mean by 'tumblr ridden'

< doesn't know what ^ means...?
< meant that there isn't an explAnation yet, and they'll reveal more later, like how originally the gems were a complete mystery but now we know a lot more. < doesn't know how to respond to that, though.

Also depends on what resolutions ^ plans to record. Basic things down to 640 x 480 at 60Hz then ^ could get by with AverMedia products.
Now if ^ wants oddball resolutions or lower resolutions that DOS games can output, then ^'d be looking at far more expensive items to handle it.
