Ahh, I need to see it sometime. Hope the class didn't react too nastily to you?Earth Gwee wrote:I saw Requiem For a Dream this past Monday for my indie film class. We were told early on that we'd be seeing some hard-to-watch movies, and I knew going in that this movie would be hard-hitting, but I still reacted terribly to it. I'm a deeply empathetic and emotional person by nature. I ended up breaking down in gross sobs and I had to walk out of the room because I simply could not continue watching the deterioration of these characters. One of the things that upset me about watching it is that it was voted for over a comedy by the class. Even my instructor hoped the class would've chosen the comedy. I was so broken up by the viewing; I needed to take the rest of the night off to detox. Fantastic movie, but definitely not for the faint of heart.

Woman in Gold. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would, though it did feel like there was an opportunity to make it a much more powerful flick than it ended up being. It's one of those movies that's split between a story and flashbacks, and the flashbacks are actually very touching moments that are supposed to highlight the significance of the painting and her attachment to it...but then the actual story tends to fall flat and not really live up to its potential. Still though, it's good, worth seeing.

Oh, no. Most of the class didn't take notice of me. They were more wrapped up in whatever they were doing after the viewing was over. I did have a few people approach me, asking if I was okay. Thankfully, it's the last hard-to-watch movie we're watching.Keane wrote:Ahh, I need to see it sometime. Was the movie really that hard hitting? I don't recall it having that much of an affect on me. In my driving class they always showed us real footage of people in car accidents, so I've seen far worse.

It was hard-hitting for me. The editing was very fast-paced and effective at showing the characters' deterioration. And, like I said, I'm emotional by nature.

Got round to checking our Big Hero 6, I'm beginning to wonder if Pixar's been outdone by Disney's own at this point.

You liked it that much? The first half (before they became heroes) was great, but I found the actual hero portion really shallow, generic and uncreative for the most part, save for that ending hyperspace scene.
That being said, Pixar has also been rather hit-and-miss lately. Inside Out looks like it could be really good though.

Hmm, I did get a bit of a Power Rangers vibe from the second half, I admit, but I still found the whole thing rather nice to behold. Meanwhile, I've found myself rather turned off from Pixar's offerings of late.

Paul Blart Mall Cop 2. I don't even know why I did this to myself.

Disney's Classics The Rescuers - Down Under.
Even though it's a sequel, I think this one did a pretty good job. Most of you probably have mixed opinions opinions about it, or dislike it in some way, but I LOVE it. Especially the soundtrack and Marahute. Because birbs of prey. Oh yeah~

I actually liked the first one, it was a fun idea and I thought they pulles through. Given that the second one takes place in a far more generic location and apparently doesn't create any new jokes, I'll probably pass.Keane wrote:Paul Blart Mall Cop 2. I don't even know why I did this to myself.

Stop bashing my favorite movie of all time's sequel that's way better than the pure genius that is Paul Blart.

I should rewatch the two VHS movies I own from them. They were pretty nice.Indy wrote:Disney's Classics The Rescuers - Down Under.

Yeah the first one was okay, and I kinda liked the idea of Blart's silly appearance with the segway, but as demonstrated by the masses of memes and Blart jokes...Adsolution wrote:I actually liked the first one, it was a fun idea and I thought they pulles through. ...Blart has now become more ironically funny. Sad too, because as generic as the film is, there were a few times where it almost came close to feeling like it could have actually been decent.Bradandez wrote:Stop bashing my favorite movie of all time's sequel that's way better than the pure genius that is Paul Blart.

But Paul Blart could never compare to Zookeeper.

Re: Movies you just recently watched
Watched Earth to Echo last night, which I think was made by an indie company. It was like E.T. meets The Goonies, in that it was about a group of kids who find a tiny alien and help him get home. All of the movie was shot in the style of hand-help cameras, which one might think is sickening, but they do it pretty well here. The kids are using hand-held cameras to document the events that unfold around this alien they dub Echo. The effects were pretty decent as well, and I really like the design of the alien and the personality and abilities given to him. It's nothing spectacular, but it's fun, it has a neat visual style, and it has a childlike charm to it, like you're being taken on this awesome adventure with your friends, which is basically what happens with these kids. The acting by the kids was also well done and the story was well executed, if a bit cheesy at times. I would recommend it if anyone looking for a feel-good experience. It's on Netflix.

Re: Movies you just recently watched
Just watched the new Mad Max and I really loved it, even though I thought I wouldn't from the trailer.
Insane characters are always my favourite, in fact the only reason I liked The Dark Knight was because of the Joker. Max wasn't all that mad in this one, but Nux... He's by far my favourite character, [spoiler: and though I obviously don't like it when my favourite character dies most of the time, I thought his death was fitting and truly awesome in this].

It has been since a while but I watched Paul around a month ago. It was really fun to watch, with lots of sci-fi references. I recommend it if you enjoy comedy movies.

I watched Disney's Tomorrowland last Friday. And I must say, it was way better then I'd expected. The movie actually has a decent plot, the effects are stunning, and it has Britt Robertson <3. Oh, and the soundtrack! Michael Giacchino certainly outdid himself!!! I've loved his work ever since the Incredibles and Up
