I recently watched Watchmen after reading the novel for my critical thinking class and holy shit it's good. They did a near perfect job of translating the comic onto the big screen. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the ending of the movie.

I also watched that movie last weekend. I was a bit sceptical at first fearing it was the usual Disney real-life movie but fortunately that concern was gone once the girl picked up the pin for the first time. It starts as a confusing movie but it improves. The plot itself is interesting too. Both George Clooney, Hugh Laurie and the two main actresses were very good in this movie.Imco wrote:I watched Disney's Tomorrowland last Friday. And I must say, it was way better then I'd expected. The movie actually has a decent plot, the effects are stunning, and it has Britt Robertson <3. Oh, and the soundtrack! Michael Giacchino certainly outdid himself!!! I've loved his work ever since the Incredibles and Up
And I also went to watch Spy. I have no doubts this is one of the best comedy movies I've ever seen, I became a fan of Melissa McCarthy since I watched "The Heat" and she does it again in this movie. Jason Statham's character was definitely gold, he provides a lot of laughter with his role. I definitely recommend Spy to everyone who looks for a very fun movie!
Trailer:
I might watch Inside Out in a few weeks, I like the trailers and it seems to have been having an excellent response from critiques, some even admiting it is the best PIXAR movie so far.

Oh, believe me. I sure did. :>Indy wrote:Ah congrats! Hope you enjoyed it!GrandKittymus wrote:After a long time of delay, I finally finished The Hobbit trilogy.
I forgot I owned the X-men movie trilogy so I'm probably going to at least watch The Last Stand sooner or later.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
Definitely go see Spy if you haven't yet, it's a great flick.
I had nothing to do yesterday and watched the Shaun The Sheep movie. I was pretty surprised by the 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but, yeah, it's actually a super charming and likable movie.

Re: Movies you just recently watched
I've just seen A Boy Named Charlie Brown (1969, yeah, a trending one), and… wow.
I've already read a few articles about it, so I was already expecting something special. And it's true: it has very clever lines, and the message is a powerful one. Instead of the classic “With enough will, you can don anything, 'cause you're the greatest person in the world if you want to” that we usually see in animation (too much if you ask me), the movie gives a reflexion of how dealing with failure, and the fact that it's a part of life, and that we shouldn't expect to be the best every time. There should be more movies addressed to kids like this one that shows a world that doesn't revolve only around the main character. (those last lines are brilliant)
But beside this great writing… It's a total surprise in its animation! Not that it is technically impressive, but it's full of great ideas and strange experiments. There's a lot of those scenes where the main story isn't progressing, but some random animations are just displayed along with the music. It doesn't have any link with the story, it's often completely abstract, it serves just for the animator to be creative! That gives a really contemplative mood, where you just appreciate the crazy stuff appearing, with the excellent soundtrack. Not that it's always mind blowing, but it's kind of enjoyable. Between Snoopy's shifted perception of reality, songs about spelling, or just landscape passing in a car windows… I think this movie is for those who like daydreaming.
I didn't read that much of The Peanuts, and this movie is the first one I see from this series. It has definitely made me curious to see more!

Re: Movies you just recently watched
I just returned from the cinema, I went to watch Inside Out as a birthday treat.
I recommend it 100%: the way PIXAR portrayed the emotions, the human personality, along other psychological elements is really, really well made. They definitely did the homework (Lots of research done). It changed the way I see emotions and the brain functionality.
I won't describe more since I also don't want to spoil anything but it is a must watch. I want this movie on my library of Blu-Ray discs in future.
It is officially my favourite PIXAR movie at the moment.

Re: Movies you just recently watched
Inside Out didn't look too appealing to me from the trailers, but considering all of the endless praise it's getting, I'll definitely watch it sometime in the future. That aside, has anyone here seen (or even heard of), the latest Studio Ghibli film, When Marnie Was There? It's based on the British children's novel by Joan G. Robinson, and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, the same guy that directed The Secret World of Arriety. It's looking like this is going to be Ghibli's final film, as Miyazaki has been retirement for nearly two years, Isao Takahata just finished spending eight years making The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (one of the best Ghibli films, IMO), and Yonebashi has quit working for the studio. Considering that Kaguya and Marnie were huge financial flops in Japan, operating costs just can't be balanced, and the studio has been on a hiatus for nearly a year now, still saying that they don't know what to do without the presence of Miyazaki, in recent months. Part of me wants them to keep making films, but the other part wonders if Studio Ghibli can still be the same without its key players present.
That aside, here's the trailer for When Marnie Was There:
The film is currently having a limited theatrical run in North America right now. I hope to catch a showing this weekend (the closest venue screening it is three hours away, though). If I do, I'll definitely have to report back with my thoughts.

@Disionity It is really sad the trailers don't expose better the concept of the movie, they are too vague. Definitely consider watching the movie, it is completely different from the previous movies they did.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
I ended up seeing Jurassic World because apparently Inside Out isn't released yet in Wales. It's a decent re-imagining, nothing really too much out of the comfort zone the original trilogy set up. Overall I got a kick out of the story and action, but it was slightly brought down by basically going through a checklist of "this is why the original was memorable". 7/10
Also this is just me and my general dislike for corporate anything, but it just puts such a bad taste in my mouth when movies allow corporate logos in. Like they aren't proud enough of their effort to not let your mind slip away for a moment because Starbucks needs to shove its dick in your mouth with product placement that's never subtle.

Jurassic Park had corporate logos in it too.
Also I'm glad I wasn't the only one who watched Inside Out here! It's an amazing film! One of Pixar's best if you ask me! I loved everything about it! Rarely does a film move my emotions! I recommend it 150% to those who haven't watched it!

Re: Movies you just recently watched
I've also seen Inside Out this week-end. Great to have Pixar finally back!
What I've especially loved is the absence of real antagonist. There are no character with bad intentions, only people that have flaw, make mistakes, and try to solve their own issues… It's really clever, and done right. It's also great to have a slice of life story (ironically, with still fantasist visual ideas).

Hm, I also checked both trailers and I didn't like them that much (although there were some funny moments I must admit)Haruka wrote:It is really sad the trailers don't expose better the concept of the movie, they are too vague. I am not fond of newer Pixar movies and my number 1 favourite Pixar movie is Toy Story 1.
I might however consider watching Inside Out since you claim it is not like previous movies they did.
Re: Movies you just recently watched
I saw the Minions movie and it makes me understand why the advertising and merchandise is coming in such overdoses: Much like Rabbids, this comedy will inevitably get old no matter if it's still clever or not, and Minions is more about squeezing every last bit out of it while it lasts rather than creating characters that will actually hang around for a while. It's still a decent flick though, and most people'll probably enjoy it, I just think it'd be a great idea to put an end to this series now before a fourth movie ends up stale.

In the not too distant future :
"THE COMEDY OF THE YEAR : RAVING RABBITS VS MINIONS"

Re: Movies you just recently watched
So, I recently watched V For Vendetta for the first time, and it was AMAZING!!!!! Literally the night I watched it, I had a dream where I was dancing with V while Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera was playing in the background. ...It got a teensy bit provocative near the end, but just a teensy bit. Must scold myself later.
Also watched Jurassic World. The motherf***ing T-Rex strikes again!! YEAH!!!
