Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I honestly don't think that way. Yes, they'll profit from it. So what? At least they'll care that much to make him into an amiibo. I'm sure many Iwata fans would love to have a personal Iwata amiibo in remembrance, me included. You could look at it every day and remember Iwata's legacy. I honestly don't see the problem.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Hmm, this is a bit of a grey zone. Personally, I think donating the proceeds to cancer research might be a more apt thing to do if they did that.
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
If the money made of selling potential Iwata Amiibo was used in cancer research then I would 100% support such Amiibo being made.
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Amiibo's are already a death recipe when it comes to plastic usage, making such a product internationally available is no simple task and an huge investment for a non-profit product. It sounds charming, but I'd consider it equal justice for company to just donate to charity at all. If the company wants to make a remembrance something, they can just as easily do something digitally that does him equal justice, and is a little greener.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Or a proper statue rather than a toy. There's a lot of better tributes that can be done. And actually, it wouldn't surprise me to see several in the next Nintendo Direct, or even better, in a upcoming game. Not especially as a feature, just an honest message.
Amiibo has this mercantile vibe* to me that doesn't fit well with the idea of respect. I don't think I would want to add a Iwata figurine to a collection (figurine that would become rare, get bought in large quantities, sold back, etc…), especially if it is just to show that we care about his death (“just bought this amiibo to pay respect to a great man #ThankYouIwata”). Nintendo fan that want to pay a tribute should create their own rather than buying a ready-to-send one.
* : If you want to use the expression "mercantile vibe" for a song or album title, I'm sorry, I'm definitely keeping the rights on this one! :p

Yeah definitely, good point. I'd love to see an Iwata statue erected by the Japanese Nintendo office - Keeps him both connected and iconic for the company.
And really, seeing the incredible amount of art and media that's already spawned in the past two days, I don't think we need some product or item to remember him. He's clearly made his impression and seeing people genuinely care enough to dig up old quotes or draw art is much better than a copy of a toy to go "He played a role in my life!"
