I haven't played the Original Metroid in over a year.

It is playable, but I'd have gotten Zero Mission.

The Baby was obviously overcooked, to the level that I laughed about cannibalism jokes in that unfinished sub edit.

These rarely make me laugh, you know.

I never did understand the need to bring that theme so aggressively in, it's an interesting perspective, but was incessantly hammered in.
