Five years ago, when there were far less people on the Internet than there are today, people were wary and skeptical about forming virtual relationships. The fact remains that online, it is very easy to create a character or persona very much different from you. One cannot be completely sure if the people they befriend in chatrooms are who they claim to be. As the years went by, the population of Internet users grew, and new softwares and innovations made online interaction easier and more convenient. The latest and most popular to date is Friendster, which was created by Jonathan Abrams, an engineer and entrepreneur based in Silicon Valley, and launched in March 2003. Friendster took the Philippines by storm on July and got anyone with access to the computer so addicted to it that reports say Friendster been growing at 20% per week since then (Smalla). Because of its ability to build friendships through “friend-of-a-friend” referrals, Friendster makes online interaction more personal and easier to carry onto the offline world than other forms of online communication.

Today there is a new kind of online board called Social Networking Models. When an online community is powered by a Social Software, the software is designed to place certain limitations on the users and how relationships are formed, particularly when two strangers make initial contact. The number one advantage of this is the users’ behavior is regulated because the software sets a limit on the amount of contact they have with each other, as opposed to the physical world where the boundaries of interpersonal communication and appropriate behavior lie on societal norms and etiquette, which can easily be broken.

A Private Network, the network where Friendster is classified under, deals with referrals and existing connections. For instance, Ana want to meet Sam who is a friend of her friend, John. Ana then asks John to introduce her to Sam. This is very similar to the face-to-face social situation where one meets new people through the friends they already have. On Friendster one can only view the profiles that person is connected to.

Final Fantasy

Discuss Final Fantasy as a whole, the upcoming games and your favourites in the series!

My overall favourite is Final Fantasy VII, one of the most immersive games I've ever played. I was heavily engrossed in the story ,characters and world from start to finish. Final Fantasy IX is pretty damn close, as the game was beautiful overall. I also love X, IV, III and am going to play through the rest of VI soon which I already really like. I found XIII to be pretty good too despite the hate, but couldn't really get into XII as I found the story, characters and combat to be quite weak. The soundtrack was outstanding and the world was decent though. I really want to try V in the future too, but am not interested in VIII as I find the premise of that entry to be quite off putting. XV looks amazing and I am really hyped for that game. I also think Lightning returns looks really good and will be a nice conclusion to the XIII story arc.

Great topic :D

I have played them all up to X-2 (which was lame) and it's really hard to tell which one was my favorite. I have enjoyed all of them between V and X at different times, and it was a great moment everytime.

You should really try V, personnaly, I really enjoyed the game mechanics with the class system!

Yeah I avoided X-2 but I may try it out of curiosity when the HD version is released. I loved the job system in III so yeah V should be good. I assumed you liked X the best due to your name, but its cool that you like so many of them :) I guess Tidus is your favourite protagonist though, am I right? Mine is either Cecil or Zidane but Tidus is an awesome character. He seems to get quite a bit of hate which I can't really understand as I found him to be a great character with some nice development and backstory.

I also love the infamous laugh scene haha!

I love FF9. It looks good, the music is lovely, the characters are interesting and well developed and it makes me do something a game thats story focus should do at the end, make me cry. And as everybody who plays this game may say. I love Vivi.
BTW is there any one else who like Quina.

Yeah FF9 is one of my favourites. I kind of liked Quina even if he did step into Jar Jar Binks territory at times. Despite him being incredibly useful in battle I never used him, I just stuck with Zidane, Vivi, Dagger and Steiner for the most part.

I watched my sister play the most recent Final Fantasy game. She was flying the Regalia and crashed.
Then I started watching other videos of it and it was SOOOOO hilarious.

As for FF, haven't played the games, though I want to sometime.
(I wonder why Fifo hasn't posted here? He LOVES FF doesn't he?)

I had Final Fantasy for GBA years ago and I was highly addicted to the game. I recall playing one of them in my cousins a long time ago as a kid on PS1, but I can't recall which exact game it was.

But yeah, Final Fantasy is definitely something special that I will definitely be revisiting.
