According to an interview back in Rayman Origins development, Polokus was revealed to have shapeshifting abilities and some forms were planned to have shown in the game. My headcanon is that the RO/RL form is the original one that the Lums gave in his birth. Before putting himself to deep sleep, he transformed to a short being with long arms for an easier mask reach in that tall pillar. After the R2 events he would return to the Snoring Tree and to his original form.
