Re: Off Topic
Hey guys! Large post incoming, since I have a few things to say about this forum and my activity on it.
I haven't been very active on RPC lately. Due to university I don't have a lot of time so I like to spend the time I do have doing more enjoyable things.
Browsing through RPC has become less and less enjoyable over the past few months. Not only are there now way too many shitposts and dumb memes (I'm of course excluding posts made on RD), but there seem to be more and more fights as well. A few good members that I really respected left a while ago and now the forum feels like it's half spam and half way too nice people who don't do anything about it. That's really quite lonely.
I first came here 10 years ago because I wanted to talk about Rayman, a franchise that I loved. But the games haven't been my cup of tea since RRR (although Rayman Legends wasn't bad at all), so I stayed for the community. But now even that is full of garbage.
Still, I've been here for 10 years and I'll continue to be here, probably about as active as I am now. But I urge the admins and mods to do something about this. As much as I don't like telling people how to do their job, it needs to be said because if it gets any worse, I can see many members leaving - including myself. If it gets better I might get more active again since that would mean more interesting and fun discussions and more members that are interested in interesting and fun discussions.
Secondly, about PMs: Since I've grown disinterested in Rayman, I also don't like digging into the games to rip textures and other things from them as much as I used to. Practically every week I get a PM from someone asking how to extract this or that from a Rayman game, or asking for a link to a texture archive that got deleted before they could download it. Well, tough luck, I'm not answering those PMs anymore because that stuff takes too long and my upload speed isn't fantastic. I'm also not answering French PMs because typing in French takes way too much time for me. Ask Got4n, he's good at it and loves Rayman hacking to a fault.
Since I have so little time I would also like to choose when to work on RayTunes and when not to work on it by myself, so don't be surprised if RayTunes is left as it is now until I am bored enough to work on it again.
In other words, I'll post when I want to post, and I'll work on RayTunes when I want to, and not when I am asked.
Finally, about my game for the people who care about it: I'm still working on it and I love it very dearly, but since it is so much work and I don't want the game to be associated with the newer entries of the Rayman franchise, I am considering to remove all references to Rayman, changing the design of many characters (including Blue, the main character) and make it a standalone game that I might be able to earn some money with.
TL;DR: This forum needs to be cleaned up; don't bother me with your silly questions and let me do what I want; Rayman sucks nowadays (I'm half expecting a pissed reply to this from Brad
).
Phew. Now that's finally cleared up and I can move on to more enjoyable things. See you around.

Re: Off Topic
Homestly, while I still enjoy Rayman I'm feeling pretty much the same way about the community. In fact the only reason I stay here at the moment is because there is no real alternative. Let's hope that the situation improves soon.
Re: Off Topic
Damn, that was a hard reading. Not grammatically speaking but the tone itself. But I feel I need to also express myself, now that some subjects were brought to surface. Be prepared for a long rant.
I do think that the community got much less united with the release of Origins/Legends, contrary to what we were thinking with the return of the spotlight to the limbless wonder. I remember that when I joined the forum we were in the dark era of the Rabbids and we had no idea if Rayman would have a future as a main character again: the community was united and creating a lot of interesting discussions along with a good and healthy atmosphere. I frequented forums before this one (in which they are all gone now) and I wasn't hanging around for too much time due to lack of spark. But RPC did have something unique and the result is that I'm still around here, the only forum that I frequent.
! I'll be curious to see how it will develop, good luck with it!
. (For the second time just in case the first part of the phrase was not read: I don't have any intention to offend. Peace.)
I think sucking is a strong term because while as a fan I have my less good opinions about Origins/Legends I would still definitely recommend them to platformer fans. The main problem here is that Rayman isn't in its old golden days and all we can do is hoping that better days come in future. I'll be waiting (even if it means sitted!)! All of this to say that my feelings are with you, Droolie.
Now for other people reading this, I'm sorry for the annoying wall of ranting text but I really had the feeling to throw my thoughts out towards the current situation that the community faces. I do want to see better days, I really do. That will be only possible to achieve with the mutual understanding and contribution of every member. Here I leave my hopes that my words are read and really taken in consideration by everyone.
I totally understand about your lack of time (and I'm sure others will equally understand). In fact I knew that when I would enter in the university, especially with the special scheduling my course owns, I wouldn't be able to give the same attention to the forum back in my moderator status so I temporarily retired myself from the duty in order to ensure that I could focus in my studyings but it was also to be able to have more time for myself to do things I enjoy. Only few people know this but I was passing through a serious depression two Summers ago and in part was because I was moderating the forum alone for a good while and almost everybody in the staff of the time was not giving any signals of life. To make things better there was a SpamBot attack after. I really did well in interrupting the orange status because I managed to overcome the depression and fortunately my studies are going fine and yet I am managing to do things I like when I have free time.Drolpiraat wrote: I haven't been very active on RPC lately. You are not alone. I do notice a huge difference in the atmosphere of the forum in just a matter of months that I was not finding since I joined the community. 98% of what's being posted lately (I'm obviously not counting Record Day of course) are either memes or posts that are either few to not interesting at all. I don't think I remember to see the off-topic discussions so bad and uninteresting before. To make things worse, I've been witnessing a good slice of veteran fans/members leaving the community, making this discussion field even more poor and the effects have been quite noticible lately: newcomers to the franchise or too young people having meaningless fights. I really don't have patience for this scenario hence why I decided to spend more time this Summer with my own things than navigating around the forum.Browsing through RPC has become less and less enjoyable over the past few months.
While I already manifestated my opinion about Origins and Legends in their respective releases, despite of not being among my favourite canon Rayman titles I still kept talking about them and sticking around here. Some of the members that made me willing to stick around here are gone and there are few of them only, which is quite dramatic. What's gonna happen if every (good) veteran member leaves? I hope it doesn't happen or else I also see myself leaving the forum, being only at the service of RayWiki. It is true that I promised a return to the moderation team but with the current situation I start to have doubts if it is worth it, because I am not interested to be a nanny if things are to continue like this. I do feel that the discussions aren't what it used to be, there isn't that big spark for finding new things about the latest games. I admit that when I noticed that the exclusive L'Histoire de Rayman book contained unseen artwork done during Rayman Legends' development I felt it left a bit to desire. Not that the drawings were bad or anything but the fans were really looking for more obscure things digged in the past decades. This is why I want to keep my hopes that a new 3D title will eventually emerge and that I'll be able to presence it to see if everything improves, but please put in side the slapstick humour and crazyness direction that it has been having. It is really hard for me to say this but it is probably the only time I disagree with Michel Ancel's decision of which direction the series should go next. Smartphones? More 2D games? I don't want a milking similar to the Rabbids: it is overdone and now almost nobody cares about them. I still will be active around here with hopes that things get better in future and eventually make me even more active in the community again. You can count with that.I first came here 10 years ago because I wanted to talk about Rayman, a franchise that I loved. I do think you did a great job in your RayTunes project and I hope that in future you recover the energy to keep going with it. Sometimes all we need is a good break so I fully respect your position. Re: Off Topic
Now I know I've only been back for ohhh, roughly two weeks, but rifeling through old topics has given me a sort of understanding of the situation. And to be quite frank I don't blame you. In regards to school, I've always marveled how some of the college students have time to post things, and y'all points I feel are again justified.
In regards to my own contributions, I apologize if my tendency to stick either in the off topic or members forums has created an issue; Its just always been easier for me post there than any of the rayman threads, simply because as much as I love rayman, there isn't much for me to say about the games.
As for other members, there's always been shot posting of various types since I first visited in 2012, but I would agree that the memey-ness of it is getting out of hand, especially jokes revolving around Brad. That's not to put brad down, but the waifu jokes- be it Barbara or a sock- or the several out of context lines (and even in context lines) need to stop. They're not funny, if they ever were. Even Mr. Skeltal, a RD joke not even a week old, shows promises of getting out of hand.
And yet I only say these things because I love this forum, and the people in it. I know I can't force change, but if I can I'd like to encourage it.

Re: Off Topic
It already has. Count the posts after RD that just state "thank mr skeltal", there are many, the majority not in the Off-topic. Why these posts aren't considered as spam, we shall never know.dartofthedavros wrote:Even Mr. Skeltal, a RD joke not even a week old, shows promises of getting out of hand.

Ok, i must admit it, the skeltal joke is getting a bit out of hand with the sock waifu jokes

It's all understood Droolie, you have been a very influential member here who made a whole ton of contributions (some of which were part of what brought me here in the first place) and it's sad that you have to go, but you do need to have your own personal space and I respect that. Wishing you all the luck you can get in the future, and I hope Dreambound can take its full shape even if you have to make changes.

We are well aware of some of the issues that remain and while some solutions were decided a while ago, it is true that the staff failed to apply them.
We've come a long way though, with no clashes, racketeering or hacking occurring in he last few months. One more push on quality and the community will be more friendly and cleaner than ever.
So, no worries, we've got this and we're almost there.

Well, I wasn't really trying to post about the state of the Rayman franchise in itself (more on how that also affects the community), but in any case, I too will still be here waiting for a better game to come.Haruka wrote:I think sucking is a strong term because while as a fan I have my less good opinions about Origins/Legends I would still definitely recommend them to platformer fans. The main problem here is that Rayman isn't in its old golden days and all we can do is hoping that better days come in future. I'll be waiting (even if it means sitted!)! All of this to say that my feelings are with you, Droolie.
