He's got a point though. I would not use the word "trendy", but it's now far more acceptable to come out as gay or others. It's a good thing, even though there's still a lot of ground to cover.

EDIT : What's your take on otherkin, Serz? (since we're talking about stuff I fail to grasp)

@inco : So it's your opinion that people should be uncomfortable with themselves because doing that sort of thing is useless and insignificant? Sure they can "just accept their bodies" but if they can fix it then why shouldn't they? Also if you're going to say it's "because that's life" then that's darn selfish of you, some things you gotta accept yea but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try and do what makes you happiest anyway.

@Pirez : More people are "becoming" gay/trans because people are finally understanding what those terms mean thanks to the internet providing such information, as well as more people spreading the awareness of those terms. This is not "trendsetting" but people actually gaining knowledge on those things and applying it to themselves if they think it can apply to them. For some it may not be and that's fine but to others it is.

No, my opinion is, that in today's "modern" society there is no longer big things to deal with, no need to survive, just to live in an eternal routine and thus makes people's mind weaker and any tiny problem is seen as a big one

Lambda woman says :

AAAHHH I saw a spider !

A random guy says :

Will I eat today ?

Survival instinct is making people more wild, thus means more natural.

If you ask me who is the most noble between someone that fight for survive or a random "civilized guy", I would say the survivor.

Man was made to survive, like animals, we are all animal, but the lack of a hostile environment changed us.

I think the thing i'm most confused about at this point is how you're associating gender identity with survival instincts-

Unless what you're trying to say is that we should abandon all of modern society including the internet so that we all become hunters and live out in the wild, and thus not have to bother about things such as gender identity.

We are too many on earth, resources will soonly be exhausted, and the man is gonna be his own demise, it is just a matter of time, the real face of the man will soon be shown.

Fight for resources, our future, the stronger will rule on the weak, it is animal, biological, we are programmed for survival.

It's not something i'm as knowledgeable about but from my understanding it has nothing to do with gender much like trans. If I got the definition of it correctly then it's essentially about identifying with something on a spiritual level.

Not too sure what I can all say but considering the topic of Tumblrisms has been brought up I can assure you that stuff like being offended at someone for keeping plants in the house when you are plantkin is nothing more than the work of trolls and that actual plantkin do not actually do that, nor do people like catkin piss in litter boxes. I.e. it's not the idea that "you are <thing you're kin for>" but "I feel like I can identify/relate to <kin thing> on a deep level".

EDIT : I also just remembered "kin pronouns", eh people use them if it's something they feel like they identify with them most, again it's not to do with gender but what you identify as.

Well they're not exclusive so they shouldn't be in the same poll then. You're either attracted to males, females, both sexes, or none. The rest does not determine your sexuality.
Serza5 wrote:If we want to talk "biological" then we can start with the fact believing there is only "male" and "female" bodies is bullshit. For starters there are some who aren't even born in a "male" or "female" body (See: Intersex).
That's a good point, though it only applies to a tiny, tiny percentage of the population. The biological sex argument is still valid for a huge majority of people.

Most modern definitions of biological sex includes hormones as well as bodies, after all hormones are in fact part of the body to begin with. So while people are intersex maybe in that small percentage of people that doesn't change the fact that even people who don't identify as trans are still born with a mixture of both "male" and "female" hormones. Of course that doesn't mean we should start talking in "I'm 70% female" my point is that there's no such thing as bodies that are purely male or female but are mostly one or the other (in most cases, with intersex being the exception).

Sex has nothing to do with sexuallity, gender does. Am I suddenly not a lesbian because I like both trans and cis women? Of course not.

Maz wrote:Being gay is, in my eyes, far from being a casual thing. I believe that every living being exists to - among other things - reproduce and prevent their species from going extinct. That's the way of nature, and being gay goes against that (seeing how you normally need a male and a female to make kids) and is therefore, technically speaking, "unnatural". Now a lot of people use that as an insult, which is stupid, but if we just look at the sentence "Being gay is unnatural.", then that's not all that wrong. Again, I personally could care less about other people's love lifes, but I get where other's uncomfortability on the topic comes from. People don't like things that are out of the ordinary, and homosexuality falls into that category. That's why I think that this will not change in the future either, parents will always have to come to terms with their child "being different".
Yeah, but that's more looking into the science of things, rather than how the LGBT spectrum works itself into society. From the way I look at it, there's nothing hard to understand or "accept" about the whole thing, as long as you take a little bit of time to understand it. The blame lies much more with heteronormativity - choosing to stay ignorant towards it, and holding a straight-until-proven-otherwise attitude.

It's not that crazy to think that when you know gay people exist, you might just want to refrain from making a decision of whether your child will be it or not until they've developed to an old enough age to be sure themselves. This isn't really any different from having a child and knowing there's always a chance they'll be born with autism. You're basically expecting a result that you have no influence over.

And then still I don't understand the deal about coming out. I don't see any reason why a daughter going "i'm going to come home with a girlfriend one day" is something so major that people need to hold serious discussion and cry and go "we'll get through this together guys!!". It...doesn't affect your parent/child relationship, at all. At least, not unless you can look at gay people without thinking of them as some other type of human being, which, if you do that to your child, you shouldn't have gotten kids in the first place.

Sexuality is more of a spectrum. I read once that very few people are completely heterosexual, likewise very few people are completely homosexual. One can be a little bit gay, or, mostly straight but may bat for men one day etc. Personally, I'd say I'm heterosexual - I've never had feelings for men and can't ever see myself being interested in males sexually or otherwise, not that I have anything against gays.

A gender spectrum though? No, I don't buy that argument at all. Just like animals, people are born male or female. Transgendered people have changed themselves by making them appear as the other sex (which I will fully support them in and am glad that they are able to do if that's what thy want) but they were born as male or female and I find the 'born a man in a woman's body' premise to be invalid.

Also, I don't believe 11% of RPC is asexual.
