Where can we find Éric Chevalier?

Post by Shrooblord »

Hi gang

Éric Chevalier's been a great musical inspiration to me and every time I listen to his work on the Rayman 2 soundtrack, I discover new things about it. The melodies, the harmonies, use of instruments, how the different chord progressions interact, the fluidity of his pieces, recurring themes in more and more disguised - but still recognisable! - forms (I'm looking at you, Pirates#2, spreading out a hint of the main R2 theme over all your instruments... sneaky! Beautiful!; bassline from Pirates#3 basically speaks for itself).

However. I've also been searching for him for a while. Most I can find of him that seems even sort of reliable is this Sputnik Music page, which gives us a photo, at least. But what of his other work? Did he make more music? Besides Tonic Trouble and Rayman 2 (and reportedly Rayman 3 on a number of sites...? Seems bogus), what else has he been up to? He didn't just come out of nowhere, did he? And did he just disappear into the void, too?

Is this him?

What about this?

There's a number of Eric Chevaliers in this world... haha

If anyone has any information - please drop a reply. I'm a massive fan of his music eager to find more.

I think that he does own ericchevalier.com, the HTML contains keywords suggesting he worked on video game soundtracks. Surely the easiest way to find out is to just contact the email provided and wait for an answer.

The owner of the ericchevalier.com is "Notez Bien" ("note well", a music pun), a recording studio in France: http://allostudio.fr/annuaire/notez-bien-sarl
I think he spends most of his time running that studio nowadays... but he is still mentioned in projects from time to time. You can find an incomplete list of his works (including his recent ones) here: http://data.bnf.fr/14054580/eric_chevalier/
I've searched for other mentions of him on the internet a while back but didn't come across anything, sadly.

I did get surprised to not see interviews of him in L'Histoire de Rayman. I would love to read about his experience when he composed the songs for Rayman 2.

If anyone interested, Chevalier was involved in a great music project "Era" accurately in 2003. Actually, the 1st album is the most popular.
"Era mixes Gregorian chants and occasionally world music with contemporary electronic arrangements."
Programmed By [Loops And Keyboard Programming] – Eric Chevalier
I'ts him. "another French composer"

Era is similar to Enigma, Deep Forest, Gregorian (in terms of music). For those who like such a things, I love it. Fits the best for playing the Need For Speed Porsche 2000 PC ^^
Driving like a Stig in Top Gear. I had used this kind of impression before I knew Stig xD It's one of the less dynamic racing games ever imho (cars from '50) and one of the best. Or maybe just my PC was slow these times...

Era is a reminiscent of New Age music, but composer cleaved from it, it's just in pseudo-Latin, and other songs are in Latin or English.
Little offtopic.

Chevalier is the best, I did not know about his participation in one of my favourite projects before. There was also one good movie with his soundtrack, but I can't recall title right now. You can look at his production zone at Discogs:

Check out also some my refreshed songs of his work from R2. Greetings.

Oh my god I think I actually recall listening to Era's The Mass (the single not the album) once before and being all like "Oh it's a remix of O Fortuna OK cool"... wow Eric must have come pretty far after Rayman 2 then.

Also she said her username was just the Inggris translation of her real name.
Yeah, I know, "Inggris" is an Indonesian word.

Yeah, but still it's in a little different style. And I definitely recommend to start from the first album.

As a close source of Clara, I doubt about the autenticity of your information.

Hey people, I just read that Chevalier's music strongly reminds compositions of Danny Elfman.
Some people were thinking that Chevalier is his nickname. Clearly Elfman has something to do with Chevalier's compositions, but of course not the same person.
