Nope I'm talking about the 3D Rayman game cancelled in 2013.
They already had a playable open world prototype, according to what is said in the book.
Really? I only knew Rayman 2000 was going to be open world.

Same here. What is Rayman 2000?

Edit: So it took place before Rayman 3?

Yep, it was made before Rayman 3.

It would consist in an opened world with houses, cities and roads built in trees, like some known R3 artwork shows to us. Although the project was dropped, it was not fully lost because these elements were used for the Animated Series. It explains why Razoff ressembles those Aeropolis inhabitants.

Here is a translation of the passage from the book that explain about it :

[...] End of November 2013, when the Villa of Ubisoft Montpellier opened its doors to us for two days, the creator revealed that such a project (a 3D Rayman open world for PS4 and Xbox One consoles) has been studied: "We had even made a small clip in 3D to illustrate it. I wanted to go back to something more narrative. [...]
We motivated the team and the project lasted just one month before being stopped." The disappointing sales of Rayman Legends suggested to think that the public no longer necessarily expect the hero on home consoles.

Ancel really needs to find a company other than Ubisoft that will actually let him execute his original ideas.

Hmm, Ancel going through something like that would be a somewhat bittersweet moment, it'd mean he'd have complete creative freedom, but at the same time, I'd fear it would probably sound the death of the Rayman series, since he's Ubi's property.

Ugh, that's true. I wish there was a way to give Ancel more creative power without completely Hideo Kojimaing him.

If the chance - somehow- arose one day, would you guys be for or against crowdfunding a 3D Rayman sequel?

Against, if it took external funding to get Ubi to make a Rayman game, then I doubt it'd be given due diligence.

If Ancel somehow got the rights, and was asking for money to make a new game in an indie scenario, then I'd be inclined. But, I'm always very wary when it comes to crowdfunding, it's something even the best developers can make a mess of.
