Re: The You Game!
< would think that's a bit of an unfair analogy, seeing as classifying animals in science is incredibly useful for finding relations and evolutions in animals, while taking the term PC literally is not particularly useful at all considering the term was created in a time where personal computers were not commonplace among professionally owned computers.Hunchman801 wrote:< thinks that people calling whales mammals are just overcomplicating it; if it lives in the sea, it's a fish.Fifo wrote:< thinks you’re all just overcomplicating it; if it’s an Apple computer, < will call it a Mac. If it’s anything else, < will call it a PC.
Now that the most common computers are personal computers and the easiest way to classify them is the operating system they use, < can't see a problem with redefining the term PC to a more useful one.
< also thinks it's not "making the same mistake over and over", because people are usually aware of what PC literally means but use it in this way as it's more useful. We wouldn't have a large portion of the words we commonly use today if we didn't make mistakes with language, so in cases like this, < would say that it's for the best.
< is late for school now for writing all that on <'s flimsy iPod keyboard

Re: The You Game!
Does seem that the usage of the term "PC" has shifted over the years. Initially referring to computers which were affordable to the masses regardless of architecture, then referring to the IBM compatible when it became dominant. And then Macs turned to IBM compatible, so Mac's were PCs by that definition also. And nowadays, we've got stuff like the Raspberry Pi, which is referred to as a PC, despite using ARM.
So yeah, one word, multiple meanings, it seems.

Re: The You Game!
Well PC means Personnal Computer. So if it's a computer and it's yours, it's a PC, < guesses.
