Just think about that : Putin and Trump.
It is worse than Khrouchtchev and Kennedy because those guys will end using Fatman.

That's very true, in fact.#Rubber mark# wrote:While his proposals often don't make sense, they are the reflection of deep issues clearly overlooked by most politicians.

I think he's a lot less stupid than some other Republican candidates, but I might be worried if he had to make a careful decision of some kind.#Rubber mark# wrote:Well Trump says a lot of stupid things but he's far from wrong on every topic.

ICMB? As in I Caress Man Boobs? Interesting organization there, Incognito. I hope to join that one someday.
Speaking of man boobs, I'm currently low on funds. I'm probably gonna start doing commissions.

I don't think they are overlooked; I think they are deliberately disregarded. Most politicians want to get votes from being seen as a nice person and not a provocateur who holds controversial beliefs. It's political correctness. I would probably be the same if I was in politics.#Rubber mark# wrote:While his proposals often don't make sense, they are the reflection of deep issues clearly overlooked by most politicians.
(That doesn't make me an apologist for Trump, by the way)
Re: Off Topic
I think Xenon's right. Politics is only a game to get votes. Watch house of cards and you'll see.
Re: Off Topic
Guess who won michigan despite hillary's "99% chance of winning" and media calling it the final blown for the sanders campaign
Now in a more sane political field people would vote based on policy substance, but then you get sleazy figures like Clinton who just spout complex vocabulary and phrase things like they're right, but a lot of people aren't buying into that anymore. Sanders should've much earlier began directly attacking her poor record and hypocrisy and he's been too nice, as well as often talking from a viewpoint of someone more educated than the average american. If people knew exactly how the money in politics system worked, clinton would've self-destructed the second a wall street backed wall street member claimed to "take on wall street's corruption" despite having signed contracts to do the exact opposite.
And so of course everyone is predicting a Trump victory if Clinton becomes his opponent - Trump will fucking obliterate those kinds of claims.
I think Trump knows exactly what he's doing when he starts talking about his dick and insults reporters: Media explodes with coverage, everyone tunes in, and opponents keep making the mistake of turning him into viral memes (which again spread his name) and trying to shame people into disliking him: John Oliver dedicating an entire episode to "look how stupid this guy is!" is the ultimate way to only reinforce his supporters believe that he's right. US media is very easy to play, and while Sanders' criticism of it is a lot more honest and truthful, Trump's decision to break it is inevitably more successful.Xenon wrote:I don't think they are overlooked; I think they are deliberately disregarded. Re: Off Topic
I think his success has very little to do with peer review or the American media actually. People like to subscribe to controversial figures because they know they mean what they say. Trump, despite his buffoonery, stands squarely against the politically correct, conventional approach. Looking beyond his moronic pledges take for example his stance on traditional Muslim beliefs with regards to homosexuality, women, apostasy etc. having no place in modern society. That actually makes a lot of sense, but who would say that while standing at the front of an auditorium? And who would applaud it? Few, because of the controversial and politically incorrect nature of the sentiment. That's why I think people subscribe to him; they're not voting for him as a person, and they're not even voting for his politics - they're voting for his approach to politics.

Re: Off Topic
Couldn't agree more with Xenon, political correctness is one of the main reasons more and more people vote for populists like Trump. How about some middle ground?
Re: Off Topic
I think that's true, he undoubtedly resonates with people who want to see genuine change and are quickly drawn to someone who cuts the bullshit and straight up says what and why. The rest all sound like the usual drag that just don't offer anything major, and I think that's similarly working for Sanders ("Political revolution against the establishment" vs. "I'm gonna continue the progress of president obama"). Both candidates are accused of promising more than they can offer, and I think that's true for both as well, but people are much more eager to subscribe themselves to the concept of real change, myself admittedly included.Xenon wrote:I think his success has very little to do with peer review or the American media actually. I wouldn't count him out from being a product of the media though. He's very profitable to talk about, and his controversy brings almost a sort of celebrity appeal to the presidential race. When Trump announced, CNN was covering him almost nonstop, sometimes dedicating full sessions just to him, while meanwhile being criticised for hardly acknowledging other candidates. They only indirectly covered that Sanders just won two primaries, but Trump's penis comment is big news.
Agree, though I guess the minority vote always leans left anyway? Trump probably never embraced the black or muslim voteHunchman801 wrote:Couldn't agree more with Xenon, political correctness is one of the main reasons more and more people vote for populists like Trump. I could agree with that, although that hardly says anything good about the peeps supporting him.Hunchman801 wrote:Couldn't agree more with Xenon, political correctness is one of the main reasons more and more people vote for populists like Trump. How about some middle ground?
I've found that the few people I've met that support Trump are straight white males, which is rather non-surprising.Keane wrote:Agree, though I guess the minority vote always leans left anyway? Re: Off Topic
I think the appeal lies in the fact that Trump isn't really against it either, he just won't be making any progress in this area. It's a middle ground in the eyes of people who feel everything is going too fast, but aren't attracted by the far-right lunacy from Cruz or Huckabee either. Though inevitably a republican president would just throw fuel on the fire.dartofthedavros wrote:I could agree with that, although that hardly says anything good about the peeps supporting him.
I think his support is surprisingly diverse actually. Southerners, older folks, people who swing between the parties, etc. I think his appeal resonates most strongly with people who are tired of establishment puppets, and people who don't really know the details and just see a confident guy obliterating his opponents and talking on a level that the most politically illiterate can grasp. Conveniently for him, Hillary's feminist image seems to be losing its touch.dartofthedavros wrote:I've found that the few people I've met that support Trump are straight white males, which is rather non-surprising.

Re: Off Topic
Either way, Trump is really, really smart. He got all the attention thanks to his grotesque declarations, and now he's starting to settle down, with more and more people from the establishment supporting him and the once obvious fact that the party would put an end to his progression becoming less and less likely. If it hadn't been for this... trumpery, he certainly wouldn't be where he is now.
Re: Off Topic
Yeah and I'm wondering what he would do if he became president, as it is pretty likely now. Although the electorate may stop him, maybe.
Hopefully nothing too serious happens but, who knows.

Re: Off Topic
If he becomes president, he won't do half of what he said, because most of it is impossible anyway. So, no major catastrophe really.

He's very good for bringing down the republican establishment at least. He's done a great job at showing how outdated and corrupt its become, and that it really took no insane efforts to completely bring down a billion dollar effort. If either he or Sanders wins it might be a pretty permanent blow...
...but unfortunately he's more talk and less good policy substance, so he's kind of a disaster waiting to happen for net neutrality and everything similar, ironically something that the establishment would absolutely love about himHunchman801 wrote:If he becomes president, he won't do half of what he said, because most of it is impossible anyway.
