Re: Rayman Origins
We could discuss the story even more or we can focus on how much work it would be to mod Origins to add Barbara.

Re: Rayman Origins
Well that's not really fair seeing as Legends has absolutely nothing resembling a story other than "there's bad guys". Adventures has more of a story than Legends.
Re: Rayman Origins
We also need playable Nymphs.

Re: Rayman Origins
I agree that having the Magician as some sort of villain is out of place.
...
...But not unwelcome. At least he has charisma, and has some cool screentime in both Legends and Origins. Not to mention some of the funniest scenes in all Rayman history. What I mean, from a character development point it's a totally unfitting change, but somehow the Magician still takes the role and rocks it hard. He's funny, he's an evil genius, he's stupid at the right moment, he's got a sweet evil laugh, he has a freaking water dragon as a pet, he's got all the evil side of the Glade by his side. He's pretty cool.

Re: Rayman Origins
Oh man, you just listed all the reason why I love the Magician and consider him the best villain in the entire franchise. Also we need to add that he had the nerve to go after the Bubble Dreamer, a literal God, by himself. How badass is that?!

Re: Rayman Origins
You know, it's good to see some positivity toward the Magician's role in the new games. I like him too, and just wish he had more dialogue, because they totally nailed his pig-Latin voice in RO. It sounds just like he does in the Rayman 1 PS1 intro.sergiomonty wrote:I agree that having the Magician as some sort of villain is out of place.

Re: Rayman Origins
I agree the Magician is a cool idea for a villain. Unfortunately that charisma from Rayman 1 is strangely missing entirely in the game where he becomes a villain, which is where it needs to be.
Imagine if, in Rayman Legends, the Magician had the personality he had in (American) Rayman 1 intro? He would be diabolical, insane and memorable, almost like the Joker. Instead he's a generic mute (gibberish might as well be mute) idiot in a hat.

Re: Rayman Origins
Well, he did multiply into five separate entities in Legends. And if I know my tropes, one entity splitting into separate entities makes the personality either one characteristic or hollow. That or Legends just didn't care about story again. Oh well, the Magician is still hands down, my favorite villain.

Re: Rayman Origins
Fair enough, because Rayman doesn't exactly have outstanding villains. Razorbeard for exmple is amusing and has a great name/design, but again, is only what he is.

Re: Rayman Origins
I'd assert that André is the best Rayman villain. He has by far the most personality, and he has a rainbow of emotions that keep the game interesting. Not to mention he's inside Globox for half the game so you really get to know him. But otherwise I agree, most Rayman villains are rather lame--Mr Dark is probably the most one-dimensional character ever created, but his design is gorgeous so all is forgiven.
Re: Rayman Origins
Andre's voice is so irritating and I can't say I was really impressed by his motives.

Re: Rayman Origins
I think we have to admit that Rayman 3 has the best final boss though, right?
Re: Rayman Origins
Can't say. Still haven't reached that part, but I'm getting there.

Re: Rayman Origins
Hmm, I'd say Rayman 3 has the best boss fights in general, that or Rayman 1.
Re: Rayman Origins
Going back to the Magician, I have to agree with Saber. Ales' voice in Origins is really good and sounds almost like how he did in R1.

It's true, I really want to hear the voice actor recite the Rayman 1 intro!

Re: Rayman Origins
Up until the turret section at least. Atmospheric it was awesome, music-wise it was awesome. Gameplay wise not so much. It isn't so much the fact it's a turret section but more so how repetitive it is. The previous turret sections had you constantly aiming towards one enemy to the next all in different areas of the screen, while the boss just follows the same 'shoot on the head' formula while shooting a few things at you and that's it. I think it could have avoided repetition had it made you shoot elsewhere in later parts of the fight.anaphasiia wrote:I think we have to admit that Rayman 3 has the best final boss though, right?
Seriously though the music was REALLY fucking awesome. R3 definitely had one of my favorite soundtracks of the Rayman titles. Yeah it isn't really as 'magical' as the original 2, but it's really quite dark and industrial in some of the later levels. That's always a welcome addition to me.

Re: Rayman Origins
Definitely. 5:33 is the best:
Re: Rayman Origins
I cannot agree more with that, awesome gameplay and music, epic, just epic.anaphasiia wrote:I think we have to admit that Rayman 3 has the best final boss though, right?
I played hell a lot of games in my life, but still Rayman 3's boss is still one of my favourites right now, gotta replay that game (with sweetfx of course)
Re: Rayman Origins
Definitely, I think Rayman 3's final boss is the best one in the series, I really love it
I love the atmosphere in Rayman 2 when you fight Razorbeard but goddamn, it was just too repetitive, get the special attack and shoot at his arms, THE END.
@Bradandez Holy, I actually didn't notice that but the voice is actually very similar also, you still didn't end Rayman 3?
