Rayman 2 is too demanding for my laptop. This game overheats my laptop quicker than fuc*ing Battlefield 3. WTF?
Are you telling me that my 2003 ultra-cheap PC was better than this laptop? I wanna fuc*ing destroy it. I wanna blow it up with a fuc*ing nuke.

Have you made sure the vents on the laptop aren't blocked/clogged?
Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
Your laptop may have some heating issues, I recommand trying to get a cooler.
Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
No, this is Rayman 2-only problem. I can play other games (that's.mostly HL1, HL2, NFS:MW 2005 & 2012, CS:S, ETS2, heck, Rayman 3!) just fine.

Bizarre. Have you tried disabling the nGlide wrapper? (I believe you can do that by changing the adapter in the graphics setup.)
Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
Yes, that made the problem slightly smaller.
Now laptop turns itself off (it does that at 95-100°C) not in 2, but 3 minutes after launching Rayman 2! Changing the resolution doesn't work neither.
Such a shame my disc drive doesn't work, I would try to install retail version and see if problem occurs in it..

Rayman 2 GOG version is really CPU expensive (it's the CPU that reaches almost 100°C)

I guess it's so old your OS doesn't know how to offload it to the GPU!
Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
I would like to believe this is a joke. 100ºC? My middle-ranged laptop from 2009 has got overheat issues but manages to run Rayman 2 perfectly.

Yes, I would like it to be a joke too. But it isn't.Haruka wrote:I would like to believe this is a joke. 100ºC? My middle-ranged laptop from 2009 has got overheat issues but manages to run Rayman 2 perfectly.
When runnimg Rayman 2 from GOG, my laptop just burns. I can record a video of this if you want, but it will be recorded with my mobile phone
What's more interesting, retail version worked perfectly.
Oh, can you please tell me model of your laptop?
I think we can have the same one.

That gave me probably a stupid idea: what if I ran it... on Windows XP virtual machine?PluMGMK wrote:I guess it's so old your OS doesn't know how to offload it to the GPU!

Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
I'm inclined to think that would run into the same problem, since VMs don't have direct access to the host GPU.
Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
Have you tried to tweak the graphical settings of the game? There is an executable in the folder.
Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
I have only changed the resolution and the renderer... I think I'll try to play around with it a little
EDIT: These are the only options I can change

Have you considered also opening the task manager and removing programs that are running that aren't that crucial to be working? These do contribute for massacring less the CPU.
Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
Ok, really late update: It's not the CPU that overheats - it's the fuc*ing motherboard! This is the only game I have ever seen causing that problem. It just overheats when I launch the game - the renderer and the resolution don't matter. It overheats after 2 minutes (exactly 2 minutes) from when I launch Rayman 2.
Not a problem when alt-tabbed though. Could forcing the game to windowed mode help?

Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
If it's even playable that way, it can't hurt to try.
Re: I finally bought Rayman 2 GOG version and I thought I can play it... But guess what?
The game doesn't support windowed mode, though there are programs which can force DirectX games into being played in windowed mode. I'm not sure if it would help though, considering the game itself will play just like in fullscreen, just with lower resolution (which you mentioned didn't help). Would it perhaps help if you minimized the game, wait a few seconds and then open it again?

Make sure you have carefully followed these steps
viewtopic.php?p=981787#p981787
Game runs decently then.
I checked on dual core with integrated graphics.
If you are encountering overheating, get vacuum cleaner and use it to all holes for heating of laptop

This didn't change anyting.
I need to clean my laptop, but it's weird that it's R2 that overheats it.
