Re: Favourite Rayman games
You should post your full thoughts about Rayman 1 and 3, like you did with Rayman 2 sometime!
Re: Favourite Rayman games
I can't do it soon since I haven't played them fully. Rayman 1 could come earlier since I'm almost done with the game.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
What version are you playing? The difficulty is incredibly different across the ports (the DSi version, for example, the one I played most recently, is the baby's Rayman
).

Re: Favourite Rayman games
You too, huh? Next, try playing it on the original version, where you only get 3 health and a P-power makes you gain only up to 5 health and also you need 100 Tings for an extra life and not 50. Hahah ... I suck. :c
Still, the fact that there's transparent water makes Eat at Joe's so much less of a curse, even though it's still pretty f'ing difficult (FOOK YOU ONE-TOOTHED FISH).

Re: Favourite Rayman games
I guess I can try the harder versions, but not on the PC, cuz fuck that shit. Though, at least Rayman 1 provides a whole lot of challenges.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
I know I got pretty frustrated in some parts, but in a good way, like in that one maze in Picture City where I keep bouncing to death before figuring out what to actually do.
Re: Favourite Rayman games
Yeah until those damn event flags come into play. Those shit be unfair.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
Well, isn't this intriguing? Rayman 1 is the most common amongst the favourites from all the titles in the series.

Heh, who'd've thought?
I'm still sticking with 2, 3 and Legends though!

Re: Favourite Rayman games
I voted Rayman 2. Now it evens out.
My favorite is actually Rayman Revolution. I have a personnal, totally immature grudge against Rayman 2 : The Great Escape because the game wouldn't work on my computer. My then 8 year old self was outraged.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
You just reminded me of something quite funny: for me, it became something of a family tradition to bring the computer to the shop whenever we bought a new Rayman game.
Rayman 2 lay untouched for months, until we bought a new computer (which had XP and of course couldn't run the old DOS-based games).
Rayman 3 froze on the first loading screen, so the computer was brought in to make it work (seemingly it got a BIOS upgrade and new graphics card in the process
).
Rayman Raving Rabbids similarly necessitated the computer being brought to the shop. (Not sure what they did this time)
Maybe this is why I didn't appreciate Origins the first time I played – I just got it on Steam and it worked, no big build-up or anticipation!

Re: Favourite Rayman games
Heh, Rayman 2 PC and I have had a fair history in compatibility. The first computer I played it on was an IBM Thinkpad laptop, and it ran beautifully, though I never managed to beat it on it. Next, was a Compaq desktop, it wasn't built for gaming, and I recall Rayman 2 working fine initially, but it wasn't too long before it refused to run at all, some textures were also missing while it did work.
After that, it was the ol' HP laptop, didn't like Rayman 2 in disc form with Vista and 7. I ended up having to use a VM with Win2000 installed to play it. Come to think of it, that was what I was using when I made this ol' thing:
(Blimey, I was a bit of an numpty back then, eesh)
Eventually, got the GoG version, and everything was fine...'Til I came full circle. Here I am now on a Lenovo, Win8.1, and R2 lags like heck. Still, seeing as it is a more powerful machine, I finally got to emulate the DC version at 60FPS and 1080p, which was magnificent for the most part, sound glitches and lack of music notwithstanding.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
Bumping, since I think the poll needs updating. Interesting to see that the original trilogy is now equally featuring in the top 3 for members. Last time I checked it was Rayman 3 that was leading.
Anyways, I'm going to add Adventures to the poll if you guys feel that it's worthwhile. I'll also screenshot the current poll results, as they'll be reset when a new entry is added. It'll be interesting to see if opinions have changed since this was last active.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
Oh wow. I was always surprised that Rayman 3 was in the lead.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
I think Adventures has as much right to be there as the two Runs.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
Indeed, though I've been thinking about it a little more, and I've been wondering if we could take this further. I remember we discussed in another poll topic about making them annually reset, and then I also wondered if we could expand asking about what games and perhaps ask why.
To this end, I was wondering if we could replace the poll with an annual survey.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
I'm all for a reset of the polls every year. As people mature, opinions of games change so it makes sense that their favorite may change over time. On the down side it would void the opinion of former traitors inactive members.Master wrote:Indeed, though I've been thinking about it a little more, and I've been wondering if we could take this further. Re: Favourite Rayman games
Indeed, but it would also mean that we see the favourites of the active community, as opposed to potential former fans who may have moved on.
Anyways, I've been thinking about removing the polls, and opening a survey using one of those survey-tools provided by folks like Google. It'd mean we could get a little more deeper than simple favourites, and perhaps also look at why the favourites are as they are. Run them for a year, and then publish the results at the end of the year, then open a new one the year after.
That being said, it's highly unlikely we're getting a new Rayman game anytime soon, so the question is, would it be worth it? Granted, folks' thoughts and opinions can change, but would we see significant changes without a new title, I wonder?
EDIT: Ah, interesting. Since I bumped the thread, it seems Rayman 3 has now edged to the front once more.

Re: Favourite Rayman games
Agreed with Master here, annual surveys for probably more accurate and possibility different results than it is now. As well as explaining our choices through like say 5 to 10 questions.
Just voted R1, 2, and 3. The originals in my opinion, will always outshine the newer ones. More real original I would say. I would like to know though, who is the crazy person that voted for Raving Rabbids as one of their favorites from the series. What?
