But these controls were very clunky to me and I didn't know how to change the key definitions so I played the PS2 version when I got it.

Re: Rayman 2
Well when I played Rayman 3 I was ~6 years old and I somewhat knew English, but I played the PC version and it took me months to realise that the so called "strafe lock key", was right ctrl.
But these controls were very clunky to me and I didn't know how to change the key definitions so I played the PS2 version when I got it.

Why wasn't the secret room just outside of Clark's boss fight accessible on most platforms?

Re: Rayman 2
That's a good question, given that it only worked on the Dreamcast version, which came after the PC and N64 versions, it may be due to time constraints. We can only speculate really, as far as I know, I don't think we've had any official word on the matter.

Re: Rayman 2
Well, the Tomb of the Ancients has multiple diverging paths, which makes it a rather unique level. Perhaps their plan was to have decisions earlier in the level trigger the access to the secret. But then they got stuck because of the way they divvied up the level and, as ^ said, time constraints meant they couldn't implement it. Then they added it back to the Dreamcast version as an undocumented cheat. Just speculation.
And one has to wonder why it was undocumented, since it doesn't seem like the sort of thing one would discover by accident.

Re: Rayman 2
Just finished this game again and WOW did I forget how wonky the camera is - at least in the PC version. Still a great experience through and through.
Re: Rayman 2
Pity that on PC. On PCSX2 just has been released new hack allowing run game in 60 fps. Revolution always had 30 FPS lock.

Funny, that's exactly what I'm doing this weekend as well.
Re: Rayman 2
Sitting peacefully in the university, when suddenly there is a blackout in the whole building. Glad I brought my tiny laptop with me, with Rayman 2 as the only game on it, so I at least have something to do, not like the others, just sitting there, and browsing facebook with mobile data

Re: Rayman 2
For some reason Rayman 2 always seems pretty daunting to me and Rayman 3 much more pick up and play-ish, even though R3 would probably rake longer to beat. Maybe it's because R3 feels much more level-like and divided where R2 seems much more continuous and seems to have bigger levels.
Then again I think I've beaten R2 more times than R3, if not the same number of times.

Re: Rayman 2
Well, Rayman 3 saves at the end of every section, but in Rayman 2 you have to finish the whole level to be in a position to save. And when you load a game in Rayman 3 you're thrown into the gameplay, whereas in Rayman 2 you get the Hall of Doors and have to go the extra step of entering a level.

A few months later...
Well Ad and Droolie pretty much summed it up:The_Real_Razorbeard wrote:What, you got a problem with that boss fight? It wasn't the best, but it had an interesting idea with the fight being entirely in the air. It's not like they couldn't tweak it and rename it to be more in line with the other mask guardians in the original.
Adsolution wrote:I thought Grolem 13, as presented in Revolution, was a horrible boss in an environment devoid of any artistic merit. Also, given how slow the helicopter is, it's just not fun to use while you're trying to defeat a boss.
Drolpiraat wrote:I agree that Grolem 13 was bad. The only thing on point about him was his subtitle: "Bigum Aerum Tornadus Recyclus". Recycled indeed.
The idea behind him had some merit though: instead of having the last mask just handed to you in an anticlimactic way, they have you battle another boss, which is good. If the previous guardians were for water/ice, rock/lava and stone/fire, then it makes sense that the last guardian would be lightning-themed, so having you battle a guardian that controls the weather isn't a bad idea at all. But yeah, it isn't well thought out from a gameplay perspective nor an artistic perspective.
Like Haruka, I think the Razorbeard boss fight in the PS1 version would be a good place to start.Adsolution wrote:Fair point. If there's one thing I would actually consider for a remake, it's making the boss fights more interesting: Giving Axl three health, with each hit making him shoot faster (akin to Foutch), bringing back Ninjaws, making the Foutch battle more interesting, and maybe making the Razorbeard fight more interesting as well (the first sequence is way too short in my opinion).
I agree that Revolution brought its share of nice additions; most of my criticism towards it is directed at how it screwed up important elements such as the names of the sanctuaries, showing that they gave as much importance to the universe of the series as did the developers of Rayman Origins and Legends.Drolpiraat wrote:A lot of the rest of Revolution was good though, with the extra details in the environment (e.g. pirates' living quarters were fantastic), pirates kidnapping baby Globoxes to flesh out the world, or zombie Henchmen... a good R2 remake should include all of that, somehow also include the Hall of Doors, redesign Grolem (boss fight gameplay, design, environment, music) and polish everything, because if there's one thing Revolution lacked, it was polish.
The_Real_Razorbeard wrote:"The Sanctuary of Thunder and Lightning" Maybe? Or perhaps "The Sanctuary of Wind and Clouds."
The Sanctuary of Iron and Air. Iron for the Iron Mountains, air for its main element. That's what I've called it since I first played the game and it still seems to make sense now. Interestingly enough, other people seen to have independently had the same idea.Drolpiraat wrote:Or "The Sanctuary of Mist and Snow".

Re: Rayman 2
The Sanctuary of Iron and Air. Nice.
It's got two contradictory themes: iron, which is solid, heavy, opaque and (mostly) pure; and air, which is gaseous, light, transparent and a mix of all sorts of stuff, which is a cool concept. It also ties in well with The Iron Mountains as you say.
And if it somehow incorporates both a lot of metal and also flying around (air), then it would tie in with the other Sanctuary names perfectly: SoWaI had a lot of water, then a slippery slide in an ice palace in space; SoSaF was a temple made of hewn stone, laden with fire-breathing traps, Flame Caterpillars and fiery rock-liquid; SoRaL was subterranean (rock) and simply superfluously engulfed with molten rock (lava). Nomen est omen.

Re: Rayman 2
Other thing I would really want to see in case a real remake was done would be a more elaborated intro. With this I mean both the manual's intro completely animated and right after coming up the intro we all know. Wouldn't sound bad with the Ubisoft Presents.

Re: Rayman 2
Well it's true that the whole story of the invasion is told in the manual but not shown in the game. That's an idea!
