I would be interested in making an N-Gage walkthrough but it is sad that even after 14 years since its release, there doesn't seem to exist an emulator capable to run its games. It would help as N-Gage's screen isn't the biggest thing around.
That's too bad since I'm really quite curious on how the N-Gage version differs and how the new levels are designed. Perhaps some day there'll be emulators for it.
I believe the only way to record for now would be in real time with the camera aimed to the phone but I wonder if it would catch well what's on the screen. I think I could try out a quick recording to see how it handles.
EDIT: I did two demonstrative videos. The first one was too close to the camera but the problem is that since I was looking through the computer's display to see what I was doing, it wasn't easy for controlling the game itself. In the second one I did it with a greater distance but in a way I could play more naturally by facing the screen. PS: I had forgotten already how tricky it was to do both the flying and fist charging button combination in this system.
EDIT 2: Here's a third test, where I put more volume in the audio.
It is decently visible if people watch this through 1080p mode and in fullscreen so given the fact there's no emulation, maybe I can consider recording like this. Better than nothing as we never know if an emulator of such an obscure system will ever pop up.
I'd be interested you watch these, but I have a few ideas you could make the recording more bearable to watch. Is there a headphone port on the N-Gage? If so I think plugging it straight into the microphone and recording it for better sound could make the videos seem more enjoyable, currently the poor view and the tinny sound are a bad combination.
And if you do end up recording it, make sure to do it in a dark room to avoid those screen reflections!
Would that headphone thing work? The problem is that I wouldn't hear anything, and sound is important for me too. As for the reflections yes it should be in a dark room.
If you plug it straight into your computer's mic port and use audacity or something, you could set it up so the sound is recorded by audacity and you can listen to it through headphones at the same time I think
It would most surely work since I've done that in videos before. You've just got to have the right cable for it. And I'd be happy to watch videos of the N-Gage version if you decided to make them
Rayman 3 for N-GAGE was one of the key titles ever released for the system but given the short lifespan of the phone it wasn't in the market for a long time.
The game is virtually the same as GBA, except there are some notable differences:
- The sound effects of Rayman's jump and fist charging are different.
- The characters are linearted, unlike GBA.
- The sleep mode does not exist in N-Gage.
- The cubic area of the world map is cut.
- The gameplay area is much smaller than in GBA as the screen is much smaller but it does not compromise anything.
- Due to the same reason as I referred above, the levels featuring the Lava bump cars and Ssssssam are completely removed, replaced by Ly challenges and normal levels both exclusive to this system.
Hue, I would like to see those exclusive levels. I wouldn't have expected an N-Gage game to be anything more than a lazy port, but I guess they kinda had to put more effort forth to make it work in the first place.
They sure did a good job with this port. Back then I hadn't a GBA and the N-Gage version was the only way I had to play it as I had the phone. I remember to play it over and over and having fun. The experience is really identical of someone who plays the GBA, really.
From what I remember, thanks to someone in RPC who investigated more, I believe it is a GBA port too. But that system is even more obscure than N-Gage!
EDIT: Yes it is, and someone recorded that.
EDIT 2: I found the cable I needed at home. Once I can I will test.
