Reasoning behind my absence since August, 2016.

Post by Reese Riverson »

As some of you may wonder why the sudden disappearance I've had since the end of August in 2016, I never had made any information known, at least in public form. Though as a global moderator, there may have been concerns. It had nothing to do with giving up on the community, but it was a more serious matter that took place in real life. Fortunately Hunchman and the others were perfectly understanding.

What had happened, was rather unforgettable that took place on August 31st, 2016, but dad had gone into the hospital for what was going to be a shot to see if he'd qualify for neck surgery due to a bulging disc. This however, triggered the heart attack that very day. Which was very unfortunate for mom to see what all had gone on. He had to be given CPR nine different times that day, within half-hour's time. Full blockage on the right artery. Long story short, it was an absolute miracle for him to still be alive today, they had put a stent in there to save him. The heart doctor had rather done a bypass surgery, but he had no time for that.

Basically if dad wasn't already in the hospital, he wouldn't have been with us, and even still, he had been in there a while during recovery. So not only was it a very scary and rough time for us all, I had to handle what I could with the family business. All my major online activities were cut off, and anything else that would have added stress was just cut off completely.

Now, when he did get re-awakened, he said it felt like they just turned the light switch on, he doesn't remember the heart attack even happening, which might be for the best anyway, but at that point they were concerned with his heart, as far as it's healing rate goes... heart doctor thought it to not even recover well enough and would need a pace maker. Well, jokes on them, dad's heart had fully recovered from tests a few weeks or so later. :) - Since it was never related to any heart disease, just a full blockage, he was allowed to drive again fairly quickly, but still couldn't do so much physically. Being in the hospital to begin with really takes it out of you.

Though some really good news, when his birthday came along, I had noticed him keep looking at a picture of a really cute puppy from a local kennel. Then when I looked at his browsing history to see what site it was, it brought me to a page with a form he had filled out asking about her. Well, this was his birthday back in November, and I was just pushed to get that puppy for him to surprise him.

I snuck her home and me and mom surprised him when he came home, it about made him cry. He really wanted that puppy, who is a miniature australian shepherd, blue merle. This was the best surprise ever. Which pets are known to help people out in time of need and recovery. :)

Fast forward to December, just before Christmas he had a surgery done, when they originally tried putting a stent in for his right artery, they couldn't through his legs, only his wrists due to blockage down in the lower blood veins. this surgery is a bypass done for it. It was a rather complicated surgery that had some complications involved, but a rather lengthy recovery time. In fact dad's stomach is STILL pretty sore from it today. The surgeon for that said this is second to brain surgery, as far as recovery time goes.

But he's back getting around to being at the office more, so a nice good load has been taken off me still, and goodness knows him too in a way. He's had leg pain for a long time, but doctor's had been treating him for the wrong thing this whole time. Main issue had been blockages. He has quit smoking too, which is great.

So it's still a pretty long road of recovery, but it's definitely much better now and I'm quite relieved and quite thankful for. I just hope we keep pushing forward and for the better. :)

Wow, that sounds pretty awful to have happen! But it's good to hear that everything's slowly working itself out. I remember when my Step-Father had a heart attack and they had to do the procedures you mentioned and it was quite a scary time for sure. Hope everything goes well for your Father!

I'm glad things are starting to get back in shape and I hope that your dad's recovery continues to run smoothly. Also your pup is a cutie patootie. :>

Yeah, scary times, and wow, so you know exactly where I'm coming from.

Thank you, so far it's mostly just him getting his body built back up and getting over the soreness from the surgery. :)

To be honest, I have never seen a dog with differently colored eyes before.

I remember that time period being very financially trying at times too; those of us that were working had to fend for ourselves while my Step-Dad, Mom, and 2 younger siblings rationed out the sizable amount of reserve money we had for emergencies. So I totally get the break from the internet since I had temporarily left RPC to focus on my job to.

That's our office cat, at our family business. Our cats at home don't like the pup at all.

13 years old, mine's far away from being a pup, although he's still running around like a youngling.

Yeah a lot of dogs are just generally active, so was one of ours up until he, unfortunately, had passed away. A full Australian Shepard.

I don't even want to think about the day my dog will pass away, I already thought I was about to loose him a month ago...
