Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Uncanny issues I seem to have with DooM on Slackware.

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Very intriguing I'm sure, care to elaborate?
Re: Alphabetical Conversation
What I had as an issue was the lack of midi sound fonts installed on my system, TiMidity++ played no sound, solved with an awesome soundfont called Musyng Kite.

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Xylophone is one of the instruments available with those? Glad you solved it either way!
Speaking of x-words I didn't make up myself, xasers are something I've come to be quite interested in recently!

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
You've got to tell us then, what are these xasers you speak of? With a name like that I can't help but imagine some kind of super four dimensional laser crystal.

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Zero extra dimensions are involved, I'm afraid. But you're right that xasers are related to lasers. They are lasers that produce X-Rays. I would have thought it impossible, but apparently if we relax our definition of a "laser" we can get one that produces hard X-Rays. Such lasers are apparently free-electron lasers, that work by accelerating free electrons through an alternating magnetic field to make them oscillate. Normally there'd be mirrors at either end to produce positive feedback for a certain wavelength and give a nice coherent beam, but mirrors don't exactly work with X-Rays, so they just have a really long accelerator. The resulting radiation isn't all that coherent then, unfortunately, so it's not like a true laser-beam. Still useful though, or so I'm told.

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Ah, that makes more sense. I do wonder what such a device would be used for though, since my only knowledge of X-ray use is scanning bodies by casting shadows, which isn't really possible with a laser. Interesting nonetheless!

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
By using short X-Ray bursts, it's apparently possible to produce X-Ray Diffraction patterns to study the structure of certain proteins, which would just be destroyed by more sustained radiation.

Counting all the times Plum has Ninja posted several members here on the forum, it's no surprise of his use of linux coding skills to make a post detection bot.

Darn it, then that means Plum may finally use his super skills to the fullest to ninja post everyone at will.

Everyone forgot about Ray502 screaming into Master's ear, since Plum has created his army of ninja posting bots to take over.

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Good grief Ray, you're continuous denial and Plum's Ninja posting bots broke my scroll wheel function on this forum!

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Have I missed something?? I can confirm I haven't unleashed a self-coded posting bot since Record Day. And it was hardly skilfully coded.

I wish you could explain why my scroll wheel refuses to work on Rayman PC then, if you weren't the mastermind behind it, Plum.

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Just the vagaries of your browser. Though it's odd to see that sort of thing happening in Firefox…

Keep thinking it's Firefox, eh? I'm using Chrome, Plum. Though I've been tempted to switch to Firefox, as of late.

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Let me retract what I said then. It doesn't surprise me at all that your scroll wheel stopped working in Chrome!
I assumed Firefox based on your lovely openSUSE screenshot.

Re: Alphabetical Conversation
Now that you mention it I face a lot of scrolling issues on this site, but always on my iPod touch. Every now and then it goes into some sluggish state where it takes a second to respond to my finger, and I have to restart safari to fix it...
