Obviously phpbb just doesn't work well with WebKit. Which is bad for me too, since I use qutebrowser. :mefiant:

phpBB isn't a bad forum software, but it seems a bit behind times now days.

Quite the opposite, I would think it's the best forum software out there. But that doesn't stop the frontend from playing havoc with WebKit. Which is Apple/Google/etc's fault, probably. :mefiant:

Rare to see many forums around these days either way, though I've heard they're still very popular in Asia

Still, I don't think the forum dynamic itself is dead. You get websites like Reddit and places like imageboards. They might not entirely be forum-like, still have a rather similar air to them, in some ways.

This forum is living proof that forums are not completely dead in the year of 2017!

Unfortunately, it sometimes experiences periods where nobody posts anything for like half a day.

Viciously frustrating, that can be, even though half a day isn't really that long in the grand scheme of things.

Will Plum ever develop the ultimate operating system for us folks who wish to run anything we want, software wise? Gaming being critical. :D

You've circumvented the system! A clever way of putting the "Alphabetical" element to the end, I commend you!

Zany, effective, and a little sneaky. A clever solution, it is.

Blast, we didn't address it indeed. I read that and took "wine" as the beverage, just read it again and remembered that WINE is a thing. I don't have much experience with WINE, so I can't really comment on your statement. I know they have a large compatibility list, so I'm guessing the point is that it's not technically true that you can run everything, it takes some tweaking?

Correct, essentially. And there are newer games that just won't run. I've had no luck with anything on Unreal Engine 4 for example. But progress is steadily being made. So I guess my real point was that I'd be better off putting my energy into helping improve Wine than making a new OS. :P

Does seem like the case, though hopefully with stuff like Vulcan being a thing, perhaps we'll see less need for WINE in future games. Then again, given MS has made it so that the Xbox One and Windows can run games in a similar fashion, it might be that devs don't get that motivation.

Even though we're seeing more cross-platform gaming technologies, porting is still a minefield. Adam Foster's MINERVA still runs only on Windows (or Wine), for example, despite being based on Half-Life 2: Episode One.

I've heard about Wine, what does it actually do?

Good question! It's a compatibility layer. You can use it to run Windows applications on Unix and Unix-like platforms, such as Mac OS X and GNU/Linux. At its most basic usage, you can theoretically run the command "wine SomeProgram.exe", and then SomeProgram will run on your desktop, as if it were normal Windows. Of course, it's usually not that simple!

Hehe, I can imagine :P
Well I suppose now I know why "Wine is not (an) emulator", as it doesn't emulate Windows, it just makes Windows program code compatible with Linux (if I'm understanding correctly)
