Re: TTQ: Season 103

Post by Master »

Incidentally, congratulations on making the 20000th post in this thread, Ambi! I see Ray502 also ushered in TTQ's 1000th page! Many milestones for TTQ this year, and here's hoping we can hit even more!

Right, I don't know if it's already been mentioned this before, but to be sure, I'll state it. I'm happy to welcome Ambi as co-manager of TTQ, as such, he will share the role that I've been doing for the last two years or so. This means that he's also capable of giving ting rewards to quiz winners and bonus question answerers, and can also act as back-up host in the case of a victor not wishing to take hosting duties. If there are any issues that require a managerial take, be sure to contact us both!

Anyways, another thing I've been musing on and I would like to hear some feedback on. I've been wanting to make the Special Edition format an option for normal TTQ, I was very happy with how TTQ100 turned out, and I'm hoping you guys will get the chance to take charge of this format in the future. At the same time however, I know it's a much more involved format, so I don't want it to be something that happens too regularly. As such, what I've been thinking of is having a 10 season wait period. After 10 seasons, the winner of the previous season has the option to go for normal or special TTQ. If they go for normal, the option remains open to any victors, until the format is selected. Once the format is selected and completed, there's a 10 season cooldown before the option is open again.

I'm hoping that this allows for Special Editions to remain as special events, without making them feel like an obligation. Do let me know what you guys think!

I'll begin hosting duties for Season 103 tomorrow at 3:30 PM (UTC). :)

As for what Master mentioned above, I see nothing wrong with giving the winners the option to host a normal or special TTQ every 10 seasons. In fact, I like it! Season 100 and its format was really fun and more intense than the normal seasons!

Although I feel if we do the 10 season wait, the prizes would be a little lower than it was in Season 100. I prefer that prizes would be higher for every 25th season, to add a little more rarity.

I think 25 seasons is a bit too long. Consider the fact that we're only on Season 103, despite TTQ having started in 2008. With that in mind, 10 seasons seem like a bit of a stretch. I'd say that your average quiz tends to take up a month, including the fortnight wait.

I could get rid of the fortnight break, but that would lead to fatigue and the quiz burning out. It was for that reason we introduced the break. With that in mind, I'm thinking perhaps 5-3 season wait.

Do you mean a special TTQ every 25 seasons instead of every 10? Because that seems a little long to me, considering a single season usually takes a few weeks to complete then every 25 seasons would be around a year or two apart. However if it were every 10 seasons that would be a special season every 8 or so months which seems more suitable (but still quite long) to me, also considering you get the option to host a special quiz and I could imagine some hosts not wanting to go the whole way every 10 seasons.
If you're just saying the tying prizes should be increased every 25 seasons but the special quiz should be hosted every 10 seasons, that seems a little arbitrary to me, not to mention how confusing it would be keeping track of wether someone accepts to host a special round or not and counting each 25th season at the same time.
Personally I think Master's original suggestion is probably best.

Edit: ninja'd by Master
Yes, I think maybe it should be every 5 seasons rather than every 10. Maybe 3 is a little short, it might begin to lose its "specialness" if it's too frequent

I said for every 25 seasons, the prizes would be higher. What I had in mind with that idea was it would add to the stakes of winning. Though it was more of a throwing-it-out-there suggestion, to see what everyone else thinks.

Every 5 seasons for a special season? Eh, I need to see other people's opinion before fully agreeing. It seems like the special part of it would be taken out, even if it may happen every 5 months. I still say 10 fits quite well, but that's just my judgement.

Bearing in mind that 25 seasons is approximately about 2 years, it's a large gap to have.

I agree that we shouldn't have as generous a prize count as we did for TTQ100, I think once we've figured out the timing, we should take a look at how we'd do prizes. However, I think we could have TTQ100 level prizes when it comes to milestone quizzes.

I would propose that every 25th or 50th season should be a milestone quiz.

As for the special seasons; I thought about it and I now agree that every 5 seasons the winner can choose to host a special season or not.

Ambi got the correct answer. That's the mosaic in the PS Vita version of Origins where Rayman's wife was disgusted by the hair Rayman got from those creatures overnight, so she tried to cut them off with scissors. The hair took Rayman away, thus revealing the helicopter.
