Rayman 2 (2D Prototype)

Post by Ray502 »

Was it for the best that the 2D version of Rayman 2 got cancelled and was instead released as a 3D game? A part of me would've liked for it to have been released, though I feel it wouldn't have done as well as the original Rayman.

Thoughts on the cancelled R2?

I think the 2D version is interesting, but I'm personally happy they went with the 3D game instead. Another 2D game would probably just have been missed and faded away with all the new 3D releases at the time. I also don't think, from what we've seen at least, that it had so many new and interesting ideas. Like the moving in the background feature seems like something which will be cool for 1 level or so, but then just get annoying (especially since the camera stays in the foreground). The new creatures and items aren't that cool either and the weird shooting thing in the prototype level controls really badly. I would however think it'd been cool if they'd somehow managed to release the game on other systems, together with the 3D version. Like having the 2D version on the GBA or something.
