Speaking of which, has anyone noticed the billions of rayman 1 ports (i.e 1 advanced, gold, forever,ps1,atari jaguar, sega saturn, fun pack, collector, classic) the list goes on. Someone tell me why Rayman 1 needs to be ported that much to the point im (metaphoricly) drowning in physical copies of Rayman 1.
It's not a bad thing when a game is on a lot of different platforms that is called variety of choice. Would you be happy if Rayman Legends skipped the wii u and the PSP Vita and those consoles were your only choice. Probably not.
The original PS1 version was my favourite. I still remember my cousin gave me the game because his PS1 was missing (likely stolen) back in like 1999. Probably the best free gift ever, I literally played the game so much as a kid it's unreal. I know I cleared it and then I remember playing over levels again to try get all the electoons. I played a lot of origins and legends and then tried to go back to Rayman 1 for the first time in years. It's a lot harder than I remember it being lol. You literally have to be perfect with your timing and very quickly react to everything.
No matter how many ports they make of this game you need to play it on original hardware. Emulating this is a bad idea due to input delay because you're just putting yourself at a huge disadvantage. The PS3 version I tried to play was nearly unplayable like you press jump right at the edge because you have to sometimes and he just falls due to input lag or LCD delay.
Edit: Anyone in Europe like me DO NOT purchase the VITA version and only play it on a VITA if it's hacked (or you have a USA account) so you can get the USA version. They're dumb enough to give you the 50hz PAL version when the screen on the vita is 60hz resulting in a horrible laggy mess. I paid 5 euro for the privilege a couple years back.

Haha yeah I don't want to make a bad impression on my first day.
I need to get my hands on the first Rayman and play it on my PS2 since I don't have a PS1. There might not be much in it but the difference between hardware and emulation is enough to make a difference. Platform games need as little input lag as possible especially Rayman 1. All them instant kill spikes everywhere.
Thanks everyone. Yeah I'm sure I will enjoy it here discussing these really good games
Definitely going to get myself the first game again and probably best off with a 60hz mod if I'm using the PlayStation since the PAL version is actually slowed down.
What is the best version in your opinion? Basically want 60hz anyway because 50hz is just slowing the game down by over 17% making it slow motion compared to the original design.
Sorry if all this tech talk counts as off topic by the way if it's meant for strictly discussing the game (as in only the gameplay itself) I'll stick to that.
For the first four levels, it's easy, but then it gets really frustrating on the first level of Band Land, Bongo Hills. I still didn't manage to get past it! And because of that, I just gave up on playing it, since I knew the ending isn't worth it.
