Re: Rayman 1
The general opinion seems to be that the PS1 version is the best, I think the MS-DOS version is also pretty solid, However it lacks some of the original soundtrack, assets, and has a smaller screen.
Re: Rayman 1
Thanks. Suppose I'll just get the PS1 version and use a tool of some sort to set my PS2 to NTSC to get full speed.Greeness wrote:The general opinion seems to be that the PS1 version is the best, I think the MS-DOS version is also pretty solid, However it lacks some of the original soundtrack, assets, and has a smaller screen.
Yeah I tried to play it on PS3 last week and thought this is a lot easier than I remember then on band land I fell on this slippy part with very small platforms that you slide off and lost all 10 lives and got game over then got annoyed and gave up. Tried to run it on my ps2 then with PSXlauncher and it was a lot easier but still difficult and I got past it. I know I definitely cleared it as a kid and I remember being in a place called Joe's with reggae music.Aaron wrote:For the first four levels, it's easy, but then it gets really frustrating on the first level of Band Land, Bongo Hills. I still didn't manage to get past it! And because of that, I just gave up on playing it, since I knew the ending isn't worth it.
I'm just thinking the handiest way is the retail disc so there's no swapping etc. to get it booted. I think I'm supposed to be able to install it to my PS2 HDD somehow but I'll figure that out elsewhere since this forum isn't about PS2 modding.

Well, the soundtrack bit is no longer an issue, thanks to Snagglebee's mod. But yeah, fewer colours and smaller screen.Greeness wrote:The general opinion seems to be that the PS1 version is the best, I think the MS-DOS version is also pretty solid, However it lacks some of the original soundtrack, assets, and has a smaller screen.

Yeah, I've known about mods like this and Rayman Optimum for a long time, but I was merely talking about the original unmodified version.PluMGMK wrote:Well, the soundtrack bit is no longer an issue, thanks to Snagglebee's mod.

Re: Rayman 1
you could've used the 99 lives code or the 10 continues code when you had 3 continues left.

I actually forgot about thatWizardMinecraft wrote:you could've used the 99 lives code or the 10 continues code when you had 3 continues left.
Back in the day we relied on cheat codes. It used to be hear it from a friend because we had no Internet lol.
I wonder is that how I cleared the game as a kid by using cheats. Suppose it's not really cheating though it's just getting extra lives. Origins and Legends have infinite lives anyway and they still have some challenging levels.

Re: Rayman 1
Does anyone else experience sound glitches when they play Rayman 1 on the PS3? On many levels the music tracks will skip to the next after 5-10 seconds. It gets annoying to where I have to play it on the PS2 and write down the passwords to load the game.
Re: Rayman 1
I got as far as band land on mine and never noticed mine doing it. What region are you and how far into the game is it doing it?Ray502 wrote:Does anyone else experience sound glitches when they play Rayman 1 on the PS3? I'll test mine again and see if I have the problem but if nobody else does experience it you should try put your PS3 in safe mode and rebuild the database to see if that sorts it out. If it keeps up and you have problems in other games too then I'd suspect the HDD in the PS3 to be the problem.
Edit: Mine seems OK.
I want to pick up a copy of the first Rayman on Ps1 again. Is it just me or does anyone else hate platinum versions of games? I want the yellow Rayman disc if I'm buying it. You'd think "well the game will be in the PlayStation spinning, who cares." It drives me crazy I'd rather have the disc art. It looks like a burned cd-r instead of a game and just annoys me.
Essentials isn't as bad, I have a PS3 copy of Legends like that but I don't feel like buying a crappy looking sliver disk that just reads lowercase "rayman" the game is a lot better than that. I'm probably just OCD or something.

Re: Rayman 1
Region 1. It generally begins at the second phase of Pink Plant Woods with the ambient forest track. From then on, most of the remaining tracks usually skip at least a few times. Sometimes the track skipping will be random, from near the beginning, near the middle and a couple times at the end.Steo wrote:I got as far as band land on mine and never noticed mine doing it. It’s not just you, I also hate PSone/PS2 Platinum disc art, it looks cheap.Steo wrote:Is it just me or does anyone else hate platinum versions of games? I'll go back and start a new game and see if I notice it happening. If it does that's an interesting one and stuff like that would really annoy me too. I'd call it game breaking as in these type of games you need the music or it doesn't feel the same for some reason.Ray502 wrote: Region 1. Thank God so I'm not just crazyFifo wrote:It’s not just you, I also hate PSone/PS2 Platinum disc art, it looks cheap.
I just want to collect them all and I couldn't tell you what happened my PS1 original. Knowing me being the kid I was it probably got scratched to death and thrown out. Hoodlum havoc is also 5 times the price on Gamecube vs PS2 and 3 times vs it on Xbox for whatever reason.
Since this topic is about Rayman 1 though I want my yellow disc with Rayman and the mosquito on it

That'd be so nice if someone could scan it and upload it on the RayWiki!Steo wrote:Since this topic is about Rayman 1 though I want my yellow disc with Rayman and the mosquito on it
Re: Rayman 1
I saw it though in a Caddicarus video before in his review of Rayman 1.
Re: Rayman 1
This is it here though I can scan it and upload it myself when I get it if you need it.

There’s also an even rarer release with a white disc:
